Possibly, but it's not written in stone. My parents were married with children at age 17 (mom) and 19 (dad) and they and their children are all successfull at what they do and lead normal, productive lives.

Yeah, but it's different. My mother had me when she was 20, I'm sure a lot of people here 25 years and older can say the same thing, but our parents were married at the time.

These days, theirs an air of failure, poverty, and down right skankiness when a 17 year old has 3 kids. I'm sure this kid is inner city, poor, HER parents are probably more likely to have been guests on a Springer episode than students at a higher learning institution, that kind of thing.

Not really trying to do the "our parents were more mature back then" thing or the "times were different" angle, but it does work.

I still think it can be done, but it's totally a matter of personal character for all involved. My parents did it because they were commited to each other, and worked their butts off. My mom finished HS, went on to college and then got a Masters degree all the while my dad worked his way to head of his department (not over night mind you) in the mill pulling double shifts and being good at what he did
