I love my country, now with that out of the way. I dislike my government, I personally think it sucks. There is nothing wrong with hating your government. Our country, and our rights have been defended for over two centuries by brave men and women. Recently though it has been not so much as defending "America's Freedoms" but the ideals of crazy right wing nut jobs. The saying "The rich wage war but it's the poor who die" is supprisingly fitting for most "conflicts". People are also entitled to their own opinions though, that is one reason why our country was founded to begin with. I just wish that in light of us never surviving to see the day of global peace that everyone would serve their country ion some way, shape, or form. You don't have to be on the front lines, or even fight. The plethora of jobs available to people who join are amazing.

Hmmm... I do not believe I said jso2897 is an unpatriotic a-hole. As a matter of fact, I did not say anyone in particular was, just my own personal feelings on some of the comments I read. But if you took that personally, perhaps you , yourself, think you are being unpatriotic in something you said.
I understand your feelings concerning "worthless primitives" and such, but perhaps, just maybe, there is a chance, that you have no clue as to what the result of the war in Afghanistan will be. If you do know, may I suggest you invest heavily in stock futures and buy as many state lottery tickets as your salary from the State Department will allow you to, because you obviously have a gift for sagacity.

Well, that's a different matter. that's a foreign policy debate, and a long and complicated one - and I certainly agree that neither I nor anyone else can forecast the future - in the Middle East or anywhere else - all's I'm saying is: don't make assumptions about the courage or patriotism of those who disagree with you.
As far as doubting my own courage, or patriotism, I would have to say that there is NO aspect of my character about which I have never had so much as a single doubt - could any honest man say otherwise?

When will you Westerners ever learn. The Mongols, the British and the Soviets all failed to subdue the Afghan people. All these previous invaders were much more ruthless than the US today so what makes you USians think the US can do it now? Like the Vietnamese, the Afghans have been fighting invaders and among themselves for hundreds of years. They are probably the closest thing we have in real life to the Freemen of Dune.

beowulfmpf: There are certainly a lot of unpatriotic a-holes in this thread.
anyway...
The fellas in the 24th MEU are truly bad asses. They are SOC and battle hardened. Itching to wreak havoc on whatever target they are assigned to. The Colonel leading these men into combat was the fella that submitted and carried out the plan to rescue Scott Grady a few years back. He was a Major then and made Colonel shortly after. The spec ops group from this meu is one of the best the Corps has. This particular group has 100% re-enlistment 6 years running. They love doing what they do! So if you wanna say sumthin negative about them, say it to their faces, just make sure your insurance premiums are paid up!

Where's the pineapple tidbits?

/Making jello with pineapple tidbits is like nailing jello to a tree.

DROxINxTHExWIND: Lt. John Branson, 25, of Washington, D.C., says the Marines shouldn't underestimate an enemy that has spent decades fighting - against Soviet invaders in the '80s, against other Afghans in a civil war during the '90s and against U.S., NATO and Afghan government forces since 2001.

"Most of the people we're going to be fighting have been fighting for 30 years," he says. "The stupid ones are dead."
====================================

I'm sure the families of dead American troops will be glad to know your feelings about those who died in combat you POS.
