Do you know what the Marines are without the Navy?

Just the Army.

You know why they put Marines on board Navy ships?

So the sailors will have someone new to dance with.

Ingenious trollerific use of the "Stupid" tag to increase thread traffic. I thought Subby meant "Stupid" in that we have to keep doing this shiat now instead of having finished it long ago. But evidently others did not see it that way.

I believe that they respect the enemy's ability to fight, but not as men who are also sacraficing their lives for something they believe in. I mean, if I was getting shot at it would be hard for me to respect the people doing it, as well. But, as an outside observer who believes that neither side deserves this, it saddens me to see us consistently take the low road.

There is no high road when your business is war. You can't expect soldiers to maintain a friendly, politically correct attitude.

You can't win a war against an enemy that you feel empathy for. You can't kill someone that you love. A soldier MUST see the enemy as an enemy, not as an equal. Otherwise, he will die.

Wow. Nice way to make all the blood my dad spilled at Anzio and in Korea worthless. I have the flag I got when my dad was buried displayed in a case in my living room, and it means the world to me. But I would never dream of telling someone to leave this country because of an opinion they have. Never. That blood was spilled so they can have the freedom to make those comments.

Here come the "go kill somebody or shut-up brigade". You can all go to hell. STFU talking about the soldiers in Iraq fighting so that I don't have too. Its all bullshiat. The reasons we went and the reasons being given to stay.

You all need to grow the fark up and take responsibility for YOUR lives. Your retarded justification for a continuation of a flawed policy that is killing people, including those who you claim to support, is nothing other than blind patiotism. Since we have established that the intelligence was flawed and that the administration lied repeatedly, every one of the people dead has died for a cause less noble than the one you are trying to assign.

If YOU were taking responsibility for YOURSELF, then you'd be able to look past what people with an agenda are feeding you about the war and you'd have the balls to ask questions. Keep waving your flags, dummies. The military-industrial complex and the oil companies appreciate your contributions.

DROxINxTHExWIND: it saddens me to see us consistently take the low road.

There's a sort of necessity to this attitude. If you had to kill lots of people, you would find dehumanizing them into animals or objects would help you sleep at night. It's not a low road, just a coping mechanism.

People get bent out of shape at the idea soldiers called the japanese nips, japs, etc. If you had to burn someone out of a cave who was trying to kill you, would you find it easier to think of him as a father/son/brother or as a jap/nip/target?

Same thing in this instance. It's best just to let it go when you hear soldiers talking down about their enemies. It's a hard enough job without people who don't have to do it judging their political correctness.

Oh and for the record, I'm a taxpayer and as a soldier you are paid by taxes so we can end the talk about who contributes right there. As the person who is footing the bill for this nonsense I have a say.

2008-04-29 10:54:23 AM
The only reason for the stupid tag is for the civilian leadership.

If Afghanistan and Iraq had been properly planned and executed, there would have only been Fallujah not Fallujah I and Fallujah II.

It is stupidity to fight a war undermanned, underequipped, using doctrine that fits a small European country not a vast Middle Eastern country.

Stupid is not listening to Army Chiefs of Staff that, BEFORE WE WENT INTO IRAQ, said we would need approximately 400,000 plus troops to take and hold and rebuild Iraq.

That's why there is a STUPID tag. RUMSFELD took too many letters.

I have a solution for Afghanistan, and I would like to lay it out here and give all my fellow Farkers an opportunity to point, laugh, and call me a douche(after all, that's what I come here for).
Start buying the opium. All of it. Whatever the traffickers pay, we pay more - only condition - you have to desist from acting against coalition troops - no other conditions. We can bring some of it home and give it to the pharmaceutical industry (which is short of real morphine, these days) and destroy the rest. It would restore their economy, gain us immeasurable goodwill, and cost a fraction of what we are spending now. Make it worth their while, and the locals will run the Taliban out with little or no help from us - they depend upon support from the populace to function.
It is also my theory, which I thought of myself, and is nobody else's, that the Taliban is narrow at one end, wide in the middle, and narrow again at the far end.
Let the ridicule commence.

Well, if you're going to get all serious and stuff, the FIRST thing we should do is GTFO of there. With all due respect - we aren't going to catch Bin Laden. That's another useful thing we could do with their poppy crop - great source for biodiesel, too. Now, as one poster pointed out, we would definitely get into a bidding war with the opposition - but for a fraction of what we are spending there now, we could win that bidding war - we have, by far, the deeper pockets. And while, as the same poster wisely pointed out, our end game has to be to get out - we could do this without maintaining any real presence there. Still, I have to concede that it is an idea with as much political viability as a snowball in hell.

beowulfmpf: There are certainly a lot of unpatriotic a-holes in this thread.
anyway...
The fellas in the 24th MEU are truly bad asses. They are SOC and battle hardened. Itching to wreak havoc on whatever target they are assigned to. The Colonel leading these men into combat was the fella that submitted and carried out the plan to rescue Scott Grady a few years back. He was a Major then and made Colonel shortly after. The spec ops group from this meu is one of the best the Corps has. This particular group has 100% re-enlistment 6 years running. They love doing what they do! So if you wanna say sumthin negative about them, say it to their faces, just make sure your insurance premiums are paid up!

Look, pal - I just don't think it's in America's interest to fight costly wars on the other side of the planet in an attempt to pacify and educate ineducable and unpacifiable savages. I think the sort of people you are talking about are far too valuable to be wasting in futile attempts to save worthless primitives from themselves. If that makes me an "un-patriotic A-hole", maybe you could explain how and why - or are you maybe making a few assumptions about me that you might have trouble substantiating?
