Organized sports will eventually devour themselves.

think of all the 7-up this man could buy! mmmm, 7-up!

2002-11-17 03:25:41 AM
There is no way Larry Allen is worth 13 million a season

2002-11-17 03:26:14 AM
Houston Texans has to be the worst sports name I've ever heard. That would be like calling our team the Vancouver British Columbians.

2002-11-17 03:27:55 AM
ishkur, i think it's an homage to the old Dallas Texans...but it is a pretty dumb name IMO.

2002-11-17 03:34:53 AM
The best part is when someone submitted this article because they COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THAT farkING MATH FOR THEMSELVES 6 MONTHS AGO.

Fark sucks when it puts up ridiculous crap like this, and leaves my "British Cousins who have Love Affair" type stuff out.

2002-11-17 03:36:08 AM
ishkur: remember, no one understands you

2002-11-17 03:50:54 AM
I can see it now...the "Portland TrailBlazers" change their name to the "Portland Oregonians". But then, idiots on the east coast STILL don't say the name right, and call them the "Portland Ore-gone-ians".

I personally believe that David Carr deserves his paycheck this year. Just think how much punishment the poor kid is taking. I've never seen anyone take as many sacks in a single season.

Rookie QB + face in dirt = entertainment

The Dallas Cowboys are old and busted. The Houston Texans are the new hotness!
Seriously though, how can anybody claim to be a Cowboy fan outside Dallas when the Texans represent the whole state. I mean even the Houston Texan's logo is much more representative of the Great Texas Flag. The damn Cowboy's star is even the wrong color.
Dallas, you were great in your time and prime, but step aside and let a real team do ALL of Texas proud.

He must drink alot of dr pepper with that much money

2002-11-17 04:48:20 AM
Hahaha! Dr. pepper!

I'm wondering if athletes are going to start making more than a million/game in the future or if this is going to level off...sooner or later teams are not going to be able to keep up w/ the agents' demands.

2002-11-17 05:10:03 AM
Agents my ass! It's what fans will spend.

2002-11-17 05:29:25 AM
A good amount of that is his actual signing bonus tho, which I believe is $5 million? He won't even make the list next year.

2002-11-17 09:30:41 AM
Who said Larry Allen isn't worth that? Best damn o-line man in football.

And no, I'm not a Cowboy fan.

2002-11-17 09:53:14 AM
Hegemon1414 Sorry man, but no one should be paid 12 million to throw a friggin ball around.

And people wonder why the economy is in such a slump...

2002-11-17 10:08:01 AM
Houston does not deserve a team. I recall seeing a "save the oilers" rally on the news before they moved to Nashville, there were about 30 people.

Vengeful_Hobbit

No, dumbass, the economy is in such a slump because assclowns like you don't understand economics at all.

Paying and athelete millions of dollars because fans are willing to pay to see him has no effect on the economy.

ps, that $12 million includes his signing bonus. It's not his salary.

Supply n demand, people. Simple concept, yet it confuses so many.

2002-11-17 10:33:04 AM
Passerby80 Well, seeing as good portion of football players don't make a million dollars in a season, I would say the NFL has a while to go.

I think, in general, athletes are paid too much money, but they certainly do not have a negative affect on the economy, and to state otherwise is to show nothing but complete ignorance.

Also, a million dollars a season for a football player probably isn't too insane, considering the wear and tear they place on their bodies, and their values to the community as entertainers. It's when you look at the absolute top salaries, or at a sport such as baseball, when the salaries start to get insane.

David Carr is hot

2002-11-17 11:36:41 AM
The Cowgirls suck.

2002-11-17 11:52:43 AM
At first, I was depressed at how little I make and how much these guys made. Then, I saw this -

And everything was better.

2002-11-17 12:11:47 PM
It'd be funny if the Texans moved somewhere else. It'd be like the Memphis Texans or the Kansas City Texans or something.

2002-11-17 12:13:56 PM
As a former Houston area resident and someone who voted on the name, I can say that the Texans was the worst choice. The three they were choosing from all kinda sucked, but there was one that was better than the Texans. No matter I guess. It's an expansion team, in a couple of years, it's gonna be a lot of fun to watch football in Houston.

2002-11-17 12:21:40 PM
Yeah, that guy was ranked 99 in like season 3 of my Madden 2003 franchise...so it's worth it!

I think there were like 15,000 people at the last Oiler game. I remember people either throwing stuff or yelling crap when owner Bud Adams would arrive/leave the Astrodome.

IMO, I wanted to keep the team and get Adams out of there. He made a push for some more seats in the dome (thereby costing this city to lose the coolest scoreboard known to man) and not more than ten years later, he's asking for a new stadium.

Anyway, I can't complain about how the Texans are playing this year. That Dallas game was epic and will go down in the annals of Houston sports history. For the most part, they've been playing good ball and should be a major force in five years.

2002-11-17 12:26:53 PM
what were the other 2 choices for names?

2002-11-17 12:55:33 PM
I think one of they names they had to choose from were the RoughNecks but I could be wrong.

2002-11-17 01:23:18 PM
No Arizona Cardinals on the list surprise, surprise.

2002-11-17 01:29:16 PM
The original five names from which to choose were: Apollos, Bobcats, Stallions, Texans, and Wildcatters. The list was later shortened to Apollos, Stallions, and Texans. Personally, I think "Texans" was the best pick.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Houston Texans.

2002-11-17 01:44:12 PM
This kid is the leader of the team. He deserves to be paid that much because the team is going to be built around HIM. Without Carr, the Texans would be even worse (if thats humanly possible)

When will people stop complaining about how much someone else makes? Would you complain if you were one of the higest paid people in your profession? Hell no! You'd be laughing at the haters all the way to the bank.

The chick facing the camera looks like she was bashed in the head with Dr Pepper cans.

2002-11-17 04:13:08 PM
He deserves the money. He takes quite a beating and never cries, and still hustles every play. Anyone see him make that tackle on the interception (not his fault) today?

blah blah dr pepper

shut up

Kerry Collins is the 5th highest-paid QB? That's criminal.

I agree. I am a Giants fan, but I realize he needs all that extra money to pay for the booze. It seems to be working, as long as hes hung over, he plays good.

2002-11-17 06:51:38 PM
Fnorbrishiat'd be funny if the Texans moved somewhere else. It'd be like the Memphis Texans or the Kansas City Texans or something.

You realize that the Kansas City Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans don't you?

2002-11-17 06:53:29 PM
I thought I closed that tag. Guess not.

2002-11-17 07:23:03 PM
good agent

2002-11-17 08:24:47 PM
Scarneck

So you're saying that fans paying huge amounts of money which mostly is supposed to cover the salaries of the players has no effect on the US Economy? None whatsoever?

Oh, thank goodness. I'm glad we cleared that up. Seeing as how I was confused and all. ^_^

2002-11-17 09:05:20 PM
they're paying him a ton now but what about in 3 years?

It's a salary cap gimmick, they front load his contract now when they suck and have no other stars. then a couple of years from now when they might be competitive and need some free agents they're not paying him as much and have room under the cap. The cleveland browns did the same thing with tim couch's contract.

Is there anyone who actually reads the SbB articles? I don't, I just look for the girls.

2002-11-17 11:00:31 PM
C Olin Kreutz Bears $7,527,970
The fact there are at least 3 Offensive Linemen on the list is farkin excellent.

Or that would be like calling one of your teams the Montreal Canadiens. Wait. Dammit! They stole our idea!

2002-11-18 02:22:31 AM
I think football players deserve it more than baseball players.

2002-11-18 04:56:45 AM
Go Texans! he really is a good QB!
