Wow, I thought it was only American cops that had the naked audacity to try and hassle/harass people who were LEGALLY taking photos of them.

You have EVERY RIGHT to photograph the police people.

The more of us that do it the better and we might, just might start to see them being held accountable and or change their behavior.

Oh_Enough_Already: You have EVERY RIGHT to photograph the police people.

And the police have every right to arrest or ticket you for any minor infraction of the law. It makes no difference if they choose to cite other people who are committing the same crime. It makes no difference if you are actually guilty of the crime, that's for the judge to decide.

The police also have a right to shoot you if they feel like it.

The Montreal police are probably all jumpy after the riots earlier this week.

Plus, they need to raise $$$ to pay off for those squad cars that got torched and smushed.

Yeah, i know. I couldn't imagine being fined $800US for sitting on a ledge.

"The ledge and the area around the ledge where I was sitting is styled in such a way that it appears to have been intended to be used as a seating area in addition to any other apparent purpose it may have."

Jeez, having to defend your choice of seat sounds like a real pain in the ass.

The purpose of the granite surfaces at Émilie Gamelin Park is to have people sit on them, said Montreal architect Gavin Affleck, a specialist in urban spaces.

Hey MemeSlave. I have to say something here because I sense a certain degree of hostility coming from you in many of your posts...

Did you ever see the movie "Kelley's Heros"?. You know, Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, and Donald Southerland. Fun movie, right? And Southerland's character is this kind of whacked out guy on the tank and his driver mechanic is the captain from The Love Boat. Yeah, his name escapes me but in Kelley's Heros his name is Moriarty and he's always biatching and moaning about shiat. And Southerland (who is referred to in the movie as "Oddball") is always ragging on the Love Boat Guy for being negative. "Always with the negative waves, Moriarty, always with the negative waves," he says.

So I just wanted to point out that I have noticed that you seem to be laying down the negative waves, and I would entreat you to think beautiful things man, think beautiful things.

I'm surprised they didn't send an undercover officer (wearing police boots) to encourage him sit on the ledge, and when he refused to, harass and provoke him to do it.

Its funny how the article goes on to somewhat ignore the police harassment and determine if the ledge was actually intended for sitting.

It should have stopped right there. It's sort of like the free speech phrase people keep throwing around. You can say stupid shiat, but that also means people can call you on your stupid shiat.

He'll beat the rap. Caps can ticket you for whatever they think is appropriate... it's the Judge (Justice o'the peace, in this case) that decides your fate. Fark the cops, especially "la surete" dans la Belle Province. Fark them right in the ear.

Yeah I know, don't feed the trolls, but I'd like to quote this fool just to point out an important fact. Since the police singled him out and ticketed nobody else he will easily get fine dismissed. He can make the argument it was some sort of prejudice and be done with it easily. Seeing as how there are architects saying the ledge is meant to be used as a bench thats a moot point I suppose.

But as a Concordia University student found out Saturday, Montreal police, if they so choose, can hit you with a $628 ticket for nothing more menacing than sitting on a ledge.

"I saw this as an opportunity to observe how police deal with underprivileged people," Jones recounted.

OK. He's an Anglo from out of the province, and he's probably already some sort of social justice do-gooder. The cops could probably smell it on him.

shiat, I want to punch him.

Hey jerkface, you know how police deal with underprivileged people? By putting the boots to them! Don't you watch COPS?
