NeXT cubes were made out of magnesium. You figure it out :)

did it say they wear tinted goggles? b/c Magnesium burns so brightly that if stared into, it will damage your eyes. perhaps even blind someone temporarily or permanently.

And everything I've ever read says that magnesium produces very toxic fumes depending upon the alloy and any external surfaces (like paint or grease). I wonder what the true verdict is...

That was kind of a tedious read, but the last sentence of the memo was classic:

"...if I had it to do all over again, you can be sure that I wouldn't take the cube that was supposed to be installed underneath your desk."

Can you capture magnesium burning brightly on analog film and then show someone a picture and damage their eyes?

Wordman:

You know, I'm not sure. Elaine started out to be a chemistry major, she'd probably know. Let me repeat your post into a paper bag, close it up really quickly, and then open it for her when I get home. :)

No, Wordman. Photo paper can only render white as bright as the original paper. White is produced when no light hits the paper during exposure. There's no way to 'dodge' the exposure to produce a brighter white. ;)

The guy is a moron. He lives in Berkeley, yet stillinsists on spelling Fremont as Freemont. I hope he catches on fire as well.
