Bush unavailable for comment.

2002-11-15 01:41:02 AM
BOO!

2002-11-15 01:41:05 AM
Absolutely ZANY

2002-11-15 01:41:26 AM
I'm waiting for the purple alert. Stylish, yet makes a statement.

2002-11-15 01:42:41 AM
that's not good for the white house to be criticizing the FBI. if they're going to do it, they should at least do it in private, because the next time there's an actual threat, people are going to be saying, "well, the white house said the FBI wasn't being serious enough. what's the point of worrying about it?"

i'll admit, it is pretty useless to be telling everyone, "hey, be more alert than you usually are". that's just my opinion though.

2002-11-15 01:42:45 AM
KGB can kick the living shiat out of the FBI...

2002-11-15 01:42:53 AM
Sweater Girl - You mean they are still on the color system? That is 3 months behind the new taste technology!

2002-11-15 01:43:34 AM
Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Scaremongers if they report every threat, and wait for the backlash if a something is actually carried out and they haven't warned it might happen.

2002-11-15 01:44:59 AM
i would have chastized them instead.

2002-11-15 01:49:22 AM
Mvuijlst
Very true. It won't make a difference to the farkers who hate the government, though. Give them a few hours. they will weigh in.
(and FifthColumn doesn't count, as he hates everything)
No matter what is issued, it's wrong.
Unless there is death, then it wasn't issued fast/timely/soon enough to save lives and Bush sucks.
*sigh*

2002-11-15 01:50:12 AM
Last year they were berated for *not* scaring the American public with terrorist info. Mvuijlst nailed it. I personally would rather hear it all and make my own determination. But then again I live in the sticks, so the chances any of these freaks will show up out here is pretty low...

"Well, then I am both happy and sad for you."

*insert Lazlo pic here*

Moronic. Just pitiful. Right hand, meet the left hand. Be paranoid, but don't. Different shiznit, but it still smells the same. Way to show a united, intelligent, together face, guys.

As you were. Nothing has changed; this is life in 2002.

2002-11-15 01:52:37 AM
Hi Misspudding!

I agree, I think that this whole terrorism threat thing has really made us all aware of what a clusterfark the central government is. I mean, nobody seems to be communicating. You would think that before they send out news releases, they would have some consensus from the various branches of intelligence and approval of the news release by the white house.

I mean, if there's a threat that is credible enough to warn the public, you'd think they would have at least discussed it with the white house.

2002-11-15 01:53:04 AM
the terrorist-types are probably sitting around making outlandish stuff up and giggling a lot because they know we're listening. wouldn't you?

2002-11-15 01:53:08 AM
What crap. Maybe if someone'd been playing CYA Sept. 10 we wouldn't have a Sept. 11. Screw the White House on this one.

2002-11-15 01:53:34 AM
Sweater Girl bush sucks.

:)

actually, i don't hate the government. i just think that they get their panties in a bunch over things that are trivial, but all too often, something horrible happens that just gets overlooked.

very weird.

2002-11-15 01:55:04 AM
whoa, i meant,

Sweater Girl, bush sucks.

(not that your bush sucks. then again, i have no idea...)

and Aqueduct_Pocket, hi! (shhhhh, i told you not to tell anyone that you know me...i work for the...arggghhh!!!)

:)

2002-11-15 01:56:07 AM
Sweater Girl - Not true! I enjoy glee clubs and etching pictures into wood.

Misspudding - Marry me? The age thing can be over come by our mutal hatred of Bush.

2002-11-15 01:56:43 AM
Blame Ashcroft not the FBI... he is the one who has been chewing up scenery to get out his ooooh scary terrorist alerts out over the past year. WTF is it with the White house lately either showing up too late (as with the denouncing of the religious right) or biatching at the wrong target.

2002-11-15 01:56:54 AM
Miss Pudding
I would seriously reconsider my government if they didn't take threats seriously these days.
We ignored warnings before what happened last year.
I would prefer to be in a state of oversensitivity to such things, than lack of concern.
Not a state of panic, mind you. But being aware.

2002-11-15 01:57:51 AM
I just find it odd the White House went after the FBI over this.

2002-11-15 02:00:19 AM
Misspudding You're in a good mood this evening!

2002-11-15 02:00:19 AM
George Bush is damn sexy and awfully fit for a politician. I also know he is capable of not sounding retarded. I was listening to him talking on the radio while owner of the Rangers and he sounded totally smart and on the ball. The difference between now and then is amazing..sort of like the difference between prefame Eddie Chedder and Famous Chedder.

Hey...did you likey the photos of my dogs and such?

2002-11-15 02:01:26 AM
FifthColumn, it'd be so easy, wouldn't it? i mean, i'm in michigan and all. hmmm...i'll just have to convince that pesky boyfriend of mine that i don't love him anymore. think he'd buy it?

oh yeah, i'm not that much older than you, i don't think. i was born in 1977.

Sweater Girl, agreed. i would prefer oversensitivity, as well. i just think it's asinine that they go crazy over things that are trivial and don't make a big deal when things should be looked at. and i know it doesn't happen all of the time...

2002-11-15 02:02:38 AM
Given that every once in a while the DOJ hisself tells us that we should be on full, white-knuckles-and-foaming-at-the-mouth alert, that is rather ironic.

Meantime New Yorkers have gone back to their usual condition of ignoring everything around them, except perhaps the traffic. Hey, you can't be panicking 24/7/365... besides, it's not like we have politically-appointed jobs.

2002-11-15 02:04:30 AM
I can't help but think there's a gigantic difference between being the owner of a baseball team and President of the United States.

But that's just me.

2002-11-15 02:04:47 AM
Aq_P, yeah, i guess i'm in a reasonably good mood. i mean, it's not every day that FifthColumn proposes to me. then again, i think that he's secretly Michael Jackson. he claims otherwise.

2002-11-15 02:05:32 AM
That's ok, we're going to war in December. It's impossible for Iraq to comply with the new UN resolution the way the it's worded. The way it works is if they find WMD's, then the US gets to attack. If they don't find WMD's, then it will be 'evidence' he must be hiding them, breaking the terms of the resolution and the US gets to attack. Iraq must comply with the terms by December 8 or get bombed.

2002-11-15 02:05:55 AM
Actually, hospital threats are pretty big. It just seems these were 'unreliable' (ie the bomb squads in each city probably did a thorough search and found nothing, security has been heightened, etc)
If you were flying out of town for Christmas, or taking a train and there were viable threats from Al Qaeda about that time frame regarding airlines and trains..wouldn't you want to know?

2002-11-15 02:06:24 AM
Shiat, Fifth proposed to me 4 times last week, get in line :)

2002-11-15 02:06:36 AM
Look back over the past year. Terrorist alerts have been issued by the White House, denied by the FBI. Then issued by the CIA, and denied by the White House. Then issued by the FBI, and denied by the CIA. (And that's only in the States - it goes much further beyond).

No matter how you paint it, the effect is the same: The public are being herded into a huge corral of fear and confusion, and that's just how the administration wants it to be. They got us by the short hairs, and we're sheepishly being herded along.

2002-11-15 02:07:14 AM
Dear John,

I'm fleeing from your oppressive misogyny to join a man younger than I. He enjoys JPop, Disco, etching pictures into wood, and unicorns. We plan to run away together and live in the Himalayas, a place you will not be able to afford since we have raided your bank account.

Go Wolverines,

Mrs. FifthColumn

It's as simple as that, really.

2002-11-15 02:07:32 AM
They should redo the terror alert system in metaphors for Dr. Pepper's deliciousness.

I think we'd be at the refreshingly great level right about now.

2002-11-15 02:07:50 AM
How many people saw the picture of poor Sen. Richard Shelby and thought this:

ArmyOfFun
Hahahahahaha
That's a great idea
(And it will help Drew out)

2002-11-15 02:09:39 AM
Jill Billy Actually, I think your argument would support Bush and his push for a homeland security dept.

2002-11-15 02:10:04 AM

If you think that by threatening me you can get me to do what you want... Well, that's where you're right. But - and I am only saying that because I care - there's a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing.

2002-11-15 02:11:18 AM
I mean, thought this:

If you were flying out of town for Christmas, or taking a train and there were viable threats from Al Qaeda about that time frame regarding airlines and trains..wouldn't you want to know?

Hell no. Ignorance is bliss.

Call it whatever you want. "Homeland Security" does have a nice mushy wholesome ring to it, doesn't it? In the meantime though, let's trust no-one but the Bush administration, to let us know what's real and what's not.

2002-11-15 02:16:45 AM
a large governmental bureaucracy will keep as all as safe as kittens in a basket.

>ArmyofFun, I feel we're more at the "crisp 'n' clean" level right now. when it gets to "lemony fresh," start hoarding canned goods.

2002-11-15 02:17:57 AM
Ummm where do they get these threats from and why do we not arrest these people?

How much do we actually know of Al Quaideah and it's structure? Just curious.

This is the war that never ends..it just goes on and on my friends...

2002-11-15 02:19:12 AM

2002-11-15 02:19:34 AM
Dr. Pepper lacks lemony freshness. You are trying to replace our beloved warning system with the inferior Sprite citrus crispness prerogatives!

2002-11-15 02:19:48 AM
Aqueduct_Pocket, well, then. i feel humiliated that i've been going along with his games for as long as i have. the rogue even insists that i root for a different school than the one i'm at. well, i'll show him, won't i?

FifthColumn, i no longer want to enjoy your JPop-lovin', Bush-hatin' ideal world. you make me sick.

just kidding! let's make up again, shall we?

2002-11-15 02:21:57 AM
oh crap. there was no thread-related stuff in that post. oh well, i'll make it up here:

i think that color-coded threat system is gay. kind of like U of M's basketball team.

2002-11-15 02:24:40 AM
Jill Billy Hey, I'm no fan of Bush, I don't put it past him to use the "war on terror" to push other less related agendas. But the gap between intelligence services is the exact pitch Bush has been using to sell the new department.

I just think it's a silly idea that the intelligence services are intentionally trying to give the appearance of a lack of cohesion. Knowing the way most government services work, I'm far more willing to put my chips on "incompetent" than "great evil Scientology conspiracy headed by Bush".

2002-11-15 02:30:44 AM
Armyoffun I disagree on the incompetent part, but I really like your posts, and I think you summed it up quite kindly with the last one.
On the one hand people are talking about how stupid he is, on the other he is the master of genuis that is blending this whole 1984 plan
Though they can't have it both ways, they insist on having the cake on the table and a sample in their palm.
Thank you for your thoughts. They are quite appreciated:)
And yes, I know you don't agree with my politics either, but we DO agree on a hockey team. Right?

2002-11-15 02:31:16 AM
Misspudding - You broke my heart.

And so this post actually has something relating to the article, "worst. use. of. the. ironic. tag. ever!" or something. Seems to be the hip thing to say.

And you can't call U of M's basketball team "gay," calling them "yobs" is still okay though.
