It is poisoning, at least for that kid. Honestly, there's no difference in what that kid did to somebody else poisoning someone with arsenic.

These people are going to be in real trouble when the Peanut Butter Flood comes...

Destroying a perfectly good peanut butter cookie should be a federal offense.

This is one of those stories that at first sounds like a oppressive state out of control. That is until you imagine your child dying because some dickhead kid gave him a food that he knew your child was severely allergic to. In that light yanking the little bastard out of school and threatening him with jail sounds pretty reasonable.

2008-04-19 05:58:16 PM
Ya know, when I was younger, I don't remember EVER coming across anyone with a peanut allergy, severe or otherwise. Now it seems like you hear about it in the news all the time. Why does this this seem like a new thing?

2008-04-19 05:59:39 PM
People with severe food allergies should be forced to wear bright colored armbands and kept out of any public building that had food in it, including vending machines.

/ok maybe not, but as a cook I really do think that people with food allergies have no business in restaurants. I'm here to cook food, not be your farking doctor. People with deathly allergies to animals shouldn't hang out at the Humane Society, people with deathly allergies to bees shouldn't hang out around honey farms, and people with deathly allergies to gluten or nuts shouldn't hang out in restaurants where wheat products and nuts are abundant. I don't appreciate being put in the position of having your life in my hands just because you simply HAVE to eat out (clue: you DON'T), and while I'll do everything I can to keep you from being poisoned, if you do get sick it's YOUR farking fault, not mine.

Maybe one of you guys can answer this: How is it the human body can be allergic to peanuts that causes it do freakin' die? Aren't those types of things bred out, like the use of the appendix thousands of years ago?

2008-04-19 06:12:50 PM
Kid knew the other kid had a severe peanut alergy.
He puts in peanuts into the kids lunch, assuming the will have a reaction.
This kid may not have known the full extent of what would happen if the other ate the peanuts, but he knew at the very least that it would cause harm to him. It should be felony.

I have an idea, someone should make an allergy diamond, similar to a fire diamond.

Each quadrant represents a common allergen. And the number in each quadrant represents how likely you are to encounter that allergen.

/not allergic to anything, at least, nothing that I've encountered in my 31 years of living, but fish makes me puke if not prepared properly.

It bothers me that they sent a letter home to EVERY student's family because of this. What a waste of paper. The parents of other kids don't give a crap about the stupidity of one kid if it doesn't affect their kids one little bit. What a stupid school administration, but it seems like they all are these days.

HERE HERE!!!!! I agree one-hundred-percent! If you have an allergy to something why the hell would you put yourself in any possible danger by allowing someone else to prepare your food without visually inspecting everything going into it? Seriously. I can't stand the idiots out there who take no time to educate themselves and then demand that the chef/cooks be more educated on what they can and cannot have.

The only thing worse are the asinine people out there who say they are "allergic" to garlic or onions. If you were actually allergic to either of those, you'd be dead by now. EVERYTHING out there, from potato chips to campbell's soup to the pasta salad at the local deli has some form of garlic or onions in it.

/just continuing a rant
//whatever happened to personal responsibility?
///maybe you have that stupid allergy because you've pissed off the universe and it wants you to die.

I'll tell ya who should be charged with felony wonton endangerment: those Chinese restaurants whose wonton soup broth is a sad, pathetic mixture of too much corn-starch and not enough LOVE

As A person with bad allergies I definitly have to ask the waiters and staff specific questions about ingredients, The chef should have no problem with those. If the people dont ask, then they deserve it.

The peanut is native to South America. If your ancestry is native to Europe, Asia or Africa there simply wasn't time enough for natural selection to remove those people from the population since the peanut's introduction.

Some people put themselves in danger, but if they have a simple request that you don't put nuts in their salad, well then, I think you can go out of your way not to do that.

/unless you put YOUR nuts, not THE nuts

got me man. it DOES seem to be a lot more common all the sudden. I also remember a day when entire graduating classes of kids didn't have a single child on ritalin or any other psychotropic drug. Oddly enough, we didn't have school shooting back then either.

I am sure that absolutely none of this is connected in any way.

Spray a peanut oil mist around the school entrance on opening day. You must walk through the entrance to enroll. Problem solved.
