Guess where I'm going for my honeymoon in 3 months.

Yes I'll be a bit nervous. I've never been there before so I don't know what to expect, but think it's more important to show solidarity and support the people of Bali with my tourism dollar. They are a Hindu island, the attack was designed to make the hindus starve as much as it was to hurt the west and further fundmentalist islamic agendas.

Most of the people I know are saying they also are definately going back, for all the above reasons. If not, all we are ensuring is that fark will make me type the terrorists like boobies :)

Ahhhh....the "Ken Lay" speech.

If we can't go to Bali anymore, the terrorists like Dr. Pepper.

I can't decide what I like better: The world we're forced to live in, or those deep fried onion flowers.

Onion flowers.

Just as safe as anywhere else

Hell I'll go! It's gotta be safer than the state of America right now. I turn on the news and all I hear is rumors of war, rumors of anthrax, and rumors of a nuclear attack on American cities.

Where's my ticket out of here?

I wouldn't have gone beforehand, indonesian govt is farked. go to e.timor instead they could use the cash. dont know how much fun it would be tho...

I guarantee you Bali is safer than any major city in the US.

Well, actually - indonesia, as a whole, is in the top 10% of unsafe places to go if you are a Westerner. the entire country, with the exception of Bali, is poor and overrun by militant islamic groups. It is an economically and politically unstable place. you don't even hear about half of the incidents that occur there. Venture out of bali, and you're pretty much dead.

and when i say exception - i mean that it is generally safer than say, Jakarta. but just as poor as the rest of indonesia.

I was in Bali in '99 and had a great time. There was no hatred of foreigner's of any kind, at least none that I saw. Everyone was very friendly.

Now their economy is devasted for a long time to come because of...ahh never mind.

This sucks...

The waver is the bomber. The guy behind the desk is reportedly the chief or police.

This is something of a misrepresentation, though. They're smiling like that because this is backwood bali, not big city Jakarta. they're hicks.

Tadlette. Good for you. I love bali, it's a beautiful place and the people are generally very peaceful and nice.

Might sound a bit selfish to say so, but in 3 months time you'll be so scarce as a paying tourist that you'll find the place even more hospitable than it usually is, and that's saying something.

Another thing.. how come I'm only the 14th poster in this thread. what is wrong with you people?

I 've been there before and I'm going again in February. I feel safer in Bali than I would in my own city walking around after dark. Everyone I've met there has been very nice and friendly, and happy that we were there.

I'd much rather support Bali than the United States. 95% of the Balinese are NOT psycho Muslims, they are peace-loving Hindi people. All religions are equally stupid anyway, but that's another topic.

How come after the whole WTC thing everyone was all hyped about going to New York and showing support but not the same about Bali? They were just trying to get themselves back on their feet and then the bombing set them back another 20 years.

So screw you all if you're afraid to travel there. I'd be afraid to travel anywhere then, because there could be a sniper, a plane crash, a bombing, a tornado, etc. any place or any time. Get a generator and some canned goods and hide in the basement forever. Nobody will miss you.

"if you're afraid, then the terrorists have won" hehehehe

"This is something of a misrepresentation, though. They're smiling like that because this is backwood bali, not big city Jakarta. they're hicks."

Yes, but that doesn't explain the racous laughter when he pointed to the western reporters and said, "those are the types of people I wanted to kill."

Very odd scene if you ask me, and I love Bali.
