Apologies for RTFA, but Ric Romero needs to have a chat with Leonard Pitts Jr. about stadium sponsorship.

what to they mean "going to be sold to highest bidder"?

Qualcom Stadium, Fed-Ex Field....

FTFA We don't do that so much anymore, name public spaces for people who have done things. Nor even for the cities in which things are done. The Miami Heat used to play in the Miami Arena. Now they play in an arena named for an airline. The Los Angeles Lakers' home court is named for an office supply store. The San Francisco Giants? A phone company. The Detroit Lions? An auto maker.

Yes, naming the stadium FORD FIELD does not reflect the important contribution of anyone from Detroit.

If I were wealthy enough, I would buy the naming rights for every single mlb stadium. It might be a little confusing to some though.

I'd start with "Get a Life You Pathetic Screaming Voyeurs" stadium, and finish with "Rasslin' is Real" park.

Hardee's are a rare breed these days. I haven't seen one in years. Their sandwiches are awesome, but their fries suck a big one.

And here's an add to the quotefest: "Don't worry scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now."

To be fair... the really great people that were involved with the expansion of Ford are dead, and have been for some time. Now, Ford is the Walmart of cars, except their prices aren't low.

Cagey B: Since when are most stadiums public spaces?

Since they are paid for by the tax-payers. I have to say, I much prefer a big corporation picking up the tab. At least they will get advertising out of it. The tax-payers ... who knows? Maybe the team helps the city, and maybe it doesn't.

I also don't like corporate-named stadiums (if the stadium is built with public money, why doesn't the city get to sell the naming rights?), but given their profligacy and ubiquitousness, if the corporate sponsor is named after a person, and the company is closely associated with that city (Ford in Detroit, Heinz in Pittsburgh, etc.), albeit begrudgingly I'll look the other way in those instances.
