So is this Obama's Howard Dean moment? He's still better than the other candidates. It would suck though honestly wouldn't surprise me coming from the Clinton loving media.

/yes they do love the Clintons, they can get more news stories/better ratings if they can get Clinton in office (call it "train wreck waiting to happen" syndrome), plus she's a new yorker and the media industry is based in new york and california meaning politicians from either state are friendly with the media bosses so the media is far from being a neutral party
//the media was never pro Obama till it looked like he had a chance and now they are quick to try and make a mountain out of a mole hill

sseye: I live in a small town. People fight bitterly over whether someone can put an ATM on a main street, because it would mean 24-hour lighting. People post scandalous lies about town council members on the Internet because they denied a permit for a new business. People write scathing letters to the editor because the town dump is closing and that's where they chit-chat. People fight for town funds to build a shelter at the baseball field. Cub Scouts and other organizations use school cafeterias for meeting. Etc, etc.

If you want government to affect your life on a daily basis, live in a small town.

First off, take your personal attack comments calling me a "farking liar" and shove them up your ass.

Secondly, if you didn't understand I was talking about non-local government, and most particularly federal government -- you're yet another Obamite playing obtuse.

Thirdly, you're still full of shiat. Most people don't even care what their city council or school board are doing, until it creates some direct hardship on them.

And finally, if you want to get into a dick-sizing contest about who's from more rural roots, I'll win.

Then you are one lucky monkey at a typewriter. When can we expect Shakespeare?

We're supposed to take you seriously when you reject context?

Context is what he said. Can't be disputed. Your idea of context is to blend, beat, stir, and frappe what he said into a tasty treat full of nutrients and minerals, because you are too desperately engaged in the DURKACHANGEDURKA! campaign that you cannot objectively hold him responsible.

Everyone's Collective Imaginary Friend: kc987654: Um, the fact we have an Electoral College shows that the founding fathers did NOT intend for us to have universal suffrage (especially John Adams). And they had no qualms at all about denying slaves and women the right to vote.

Your reading comprehension is terrible. I never said the founding fathers were responsible of universal suffrage- I said they were responsible for a republican form of government.

My point still stands- I'll give you one more chance to reply to my post in a sensible fashion, then I wash my hands of you.

Ok, before you wash your hands, why don't you tell me what my point was and how your point rebuts it.

I don't know how any of the candidates can call any of the others "elitist" with a straight face. I mean seriously, these are all super rich political douchebags. Can any of them really understand the poor / middle class mindset?

They came from D.C.,
they had a thirst for knowledge.
they studied law and political science at Harvard and Yale.
That's where I caught their eye.

They told me that their Dad was loaded.
I said, in that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola.
They said fine, and in thirty seconds time they said,

I want to live like common people.
I want to do whatever common people do.
I want to sleep with common people.
I want to sleep with common people, like you.

Well, what else could I do?
I said, I'll see what I can do.

I took them to a supermarket.
I don't know why, but I had to
start it somewhere, so it started there.

I said, pretend you've got no money.
They just laughed, and said
oh you're so funny. I said, yeah?
Well, I can't see anyone else smiling in here.

Are you sure you want to live like common people?
You want to see whatever common people see?
You want to sleep with common people?
You want to sleep with common people, like me?
But, they didn't understand,

[Jackson]
They just smiled and held my hand.

Rent a flat above a shop.
Cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool.
Pretend you never went to school.

But still, you'll never get it right.
When you're lying in bed at night
watching roaches climb the wall,
if you called your Dad he could stop it all.
Yeah.

[Shatner]
You'll never live like common people
You'll never do whatever common people do.
You'll never fail like common people.
You'll never watch your life slide out of view,
and dance and drink and screw

[Jackson and Shatner]
because there's nothing else to do.

[Shatner and Chorus]
Sing along with the common people.
Sing along, and it might just get you thru.'

[Chorus]
Laugh along with the common people.

[Shatner and Chorus]
Laugh along, even though they're laughing at you

[Shatner]
and the stupid things that you do
'cause you think that poor is cool.

[Jackson]
Like a dog lying in a corner,
they'll bite you and never warn you.
Look out.

[Shatner]
They'll tear your insides out
'cause everybody hates a tourist.

[Jackson]
'Cause Everybody hates a tourist,
especially one who thinks
it's all such a laugh.

[Shatner]
Yeah, and the chip stains' grease
will come out in the bath.

[Shatner and Jackson]
You will never understand
how it feels to live your life
with no meaning or control
and with nowhere left to go.

You're amazed that they exist
and they burn so bright,
while you can only wonder why.

Rent a flat above a shop.
Cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool.
Pretend you never went to school.

But still, you'll never get it right.
'Cause When you're lying in bed at night

If Obama admitted he was the most liberal senator in the deniers of that fact's own homes, they would still deny it. My clarity, it needs work.

Ah. I was very confused. Thanks for clearing that up. :-)

The question comes into play by what the various "studies" mean by "liberal". Is it the stereotypical caricature ("hate America, love the terrorists, corporations are evil, babykilling, tree hugging, animals-are-better-than-people, hippy marijuana smoker")? Or is it the other kind ("real") of liberal?

That's why I want the study so I can see what kind of "liberal" they mean.

Yeah, if you do that, then you are. It has been demonstrated by several people here, and several journalists, and oddly, not at all by the subject of their conversation.

Don't know if this has been said or not, but here goes;

In many ways, he is correct. I grew up in a small town and have lived in several. Rural areas do have their share of those types of people. I see them every single day. It probably wasn't a very good idea to actually say so out loud, but you can't unring the bell, so to speak.

Having said that, I've seen many big city dwellers who share many of the same characteristics of rural people. They are close minded, bigoted and they like their guns as well. It's not just a rural phenomenon.

There are also many people who are not mouth breathers who choose to live in rural areas because they don't like the high costs of living in a large city or they just get tired of the rat race. I've lived in many large cities, and I now live in a rural area that is within twenty minutes of a decent size city. I'm two hours from Chicago so if I wish to enjoy what a large city has to offer I can do so without the negatives. I personally hate the traffic congestion in large cities.

Small towns are bizarre places sometimes. The ignorance you see is sad, but I see plenty of it in metro areas as well. Archie Bunker lived in Queens, New York, after all.

* 1993 - 2001 Bill Clinton
* 2001 - 2008 Bush Jr.

I mean, really, let's call Mars Co. a bigot because they price each candy bar the same way even though some of them obviously have more almonds. If it bothers you so much, stop living in backwater bullshiat dead-end crap towns and move somewhere productive. Do something with your life besides defending rednecks.

thefonz37: Isn't it completely illogical to assume that any arbitrary distribution of people would be vastly different than any other arbitrary distribution of people except in superficial things like speech idioms and customs?

Imagine the idea that your surroundings impact or reflect your character or abilities! Do I have to have a potluck dinner in every hick town in Alabama before I decide that I don't want to have a potluck dinner in every hick town in Alabama?
