TastyEloi: TheJoe03: A farkING FINGER POKING OUT OF A HUMANS STOMACH THAT HAD NO CAPABILITY OF HAVING A CHILD!

The problem is you saw something strange and then made the jump to "extraterrestrials." There may indeed have been many other explanations for what you saw.

You keep saying "Why is it rational anyway to believe we are the only intelligent life forms anyway?" This is absolutely true. But it's also completely unrelated to your argument that what you saw has an alien explanation.

You also continue to call some of the people here "elitists". I'm not sure what this means. Is it because we are criticizing your logical conclusions and the way you reach them? Or is it because you feel some of us have more formal education than you and this makes you feel inferior?

I call some of you elitist (not you btw, since you aren't talking down but to me) since some here basically are being dicks about this topic. Nothing further than that. But hey that quip about the formal education comes across as elitist yourself, and that's what I'm talking about.

I think the poking finger was related to aliens just based on the fact that this happened all after she was supposedly abducted. Also she went to the doctor, and they confirmed she no longer had her lady parts down there, which is strange don't you think?

TheJoe03:
I like the degrading use of "Lil Joe" and "JoJo", but can you get beyond being a dick for at least one second. You ain't as bad as Zambrono, but god damn. I never take anything at face value, but at this point I lean towards the possibility of aliens, what's so wild about that? Perhaps your assumptions to the contrary are false, and that's what really bugs me. You assume you are correct, and anyone on the other side is misguided and in the way you phrase almost retarded. Not saying the evidence is strong either way, just that from my experiences it would be hard for me to say aliens ain't out there. Maybe I'll see something that might change that, but you need to understand that maybe the same might happen to you.

And if it does, I'll change my position.
But until that day, it's not real.
It is something that you want desperately to be true.
You saw some lady with an extreme hernia, and you thought it looked like a finger.
Just realize that wherever you are getting your information, it is a poor source.
I suggest you read some of the works of Carl Sagan if none of us are "elite" enough for you.

I like the degrading too.
The best way to get rid of stupid ideas is to ridicule them.
A stupid idea is a stupid idea, no matter which lens you choose to view it through.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

Zamboro: TheJoe03: "I deserve it? Why, cause I think differently than you?"

Hahaha yes that's it, it's because you think outside of the box and all us narrow-minded sheeple are oppressing you!

No, I'm being a dick to you because you're talking down to people for being skeptical. That's shiatty, okay? No, you are not right to be credulous, and we're not blind or stupid or any other such thing just because we won't take your obvious lies at face value.

TheJoe03: "You almost come off as a troll, but hey I'm still discussing this with you as nicely as possible."

By all means, continue being nice. I feel no similar obligation, and will not reciprocate.

TheJoe03: "No I never took a video, since I didn't own a camera phone and had no camera with me."

So what, it was only visible for an instant? You couldn't have called a friend over, you couldn't have run down to the drugstore for a disposable camera?

TheJoe03: "All yo need to know is I saw it, and if you don't believe me that's fine, but I just wanted to explain why my opinions had changed."

No, that's not "all I need to know". Insistent heresay is insufficient to support your claim.

TheJoe03: "You know what the supporting evidence was behind it, A farkING FINGER POKING OUT OF A HUMANS STOMACH THAT HAD NO CAPABILITY OF HAVING A CHILD!"

Yeah, that'd be pretty amazing if it happened. Why didn't you take her to a hospital, again? I dunno, get an ultrasound or an x-ray done? After explaining the symptoms you'd have easily recieved immediate emergency care, and you'd have professionally taken ultrasound/x-ray readings to corroborate your tall tale. Presumably she's still alive. Did you never, in all this time, even attempt to gather evidence? Why don't you go do it now? Surely your little tummy goblin is still in there, waiting to be documented!

TheJoe03: "Why is it rational anyway to believe we are the only intelligent life forms anyway. What makes you so sure, you just sound incredibly close minded."

Best not to be so open minded that one's brain falls out. :-) Certainly it's probably that other intelligent life exists in the universe. I never claimed otherwise. You seem to equate "intelligent life probably exists elsewhere" with "that life has visited Earth". I will provisionally accept the first claim because it is supported by a great deal of probablistic science concerning the formation and evolution of life. The second claim has a pretty easily demonstrable basis in human psychology, and a long history of fraudulent claims.

TheJoe03: "Not everything makes sense in this world"
Far less so to those who are not equipped to make sense of it.

When have I talked down to anyone, except for when they talked down to me first? It was visible for a few minutes, and another friend of mine (named Evan) saw it with me. It wasn't around long enough for me to go to the store or anything, and well I was in too much shock to really think about having to prove this 2 years later on a Fark thread. Also I live in Cal. now, and this happened in Texas, so I can't really gather evidence at the moment, and I'm not sure if she'd be down to be treated like a science experiment. No matter how smart you think you are, it doesn't mean you understand the universe anymore than I do, or vice versa.

TheJoe03:
That's why I didn't wanna share it, since I know how crazy it sounds. It's something I won't ever forget though.

How long did you watch the "finger"? Was it a normal human-looking finger? With a nail and everything? I am intrigued. It is not, incidentally, the weirdest thing I've ever heard; I make a habit of asking people to tell me the weirdest thing that ever happened to them. So I've come to learn that many a normal, sane person has seen something they could not explain.

So it's not a fact that she said she was abducted. Never said the abduction was a fact, but it's a fact she said she was. Just a weird coincidence, is all I'm saying. You know what I'm getting at, no need to be so picky on word choice. Oh, and I've seen a hernia before, and it was no hernia. Like I said earlier, believe it or not, I don't care. It's more that you betrayed a secret loathing for skeptics in general:

TheJoe03: "I was gonna keep going with this debate, but you just had to start acting like the elitist, smug, arrogant prick that many people like you are."

What about that, then?

TheJoe03: "It was visible for a few minutes, and another friend of mine (named Evan) saw it with me. I am going to ask you for the third and last time, why did you not take her to a hospital for ultrasound/X-ray, or even for treatment? She must've been equally shocked by it, at the very least it would have been the obvious course of action to secure medical treatment. This oversight in your story arouses my suspicion.

TheJoe03: "No matter how smart you think you are, it doesn't mean you understand the universe anymore than I do, or vice versa."

Again with the perception of elitism. I don't presume to be any smarter than you, but it's quite evident that I'm a great deal more rational, and the rational approach certainly tells us more about reality than baseless conjecture and tall tales.

My dickish comments were said just because that guy started name calling and such. Personally I tend to be a skeptic myself, just not on this topic. People like you really refers to people who think anyone on the other side is completely retarded.

I dunno why I didn't take her to a hospital, maybe cause she didn't wanna go, and she had no insurance at the time. Is that good enough for you, I can't exactly force a grown woman to do things against her will.

You didn't put that in your original story. It's also the case that you don't need health insurance (or even to wait in line) to receive emergency treatment. It's a policy in place mostly to provide for unconditional emergency treatment of gun violence victims, which don't typically have health insurance either.

So you think it's impossible for any rational person to think aliens might have been to earth? That's what bugs me about your viewpoint, you're just so damn sure of yourself and fail to see that you might be wrong. I know I might be wrong, but you guys will never concede that you are humans just like me, and really have no more info on the topic than I do.

Regardless of insurance, she just didn't wanna go. People tend to look at you weird (as evidenced by this thread), when you say something like that happened. She didn't want to go to the doctor and have that happen. Maybe in retrospect it should have happened, but it's too late for that now.

You deserve it.

TheJoe03: "Alright I'll give you one thing I've seen that made me change my stance into believing in aliens (one of many). Well one day she was freaking out about something, she tells me to come in the room, and well I saw some shiat. There was a god damn finger like thing protruding out of her stomach just kinda probing around. What the fark is that Mr. I got all the answers."

Wow, I'd sure love to see something like that. Do you have pictures or a video? Surely, you thought to snap a few pictures?

TheJoe03: "When you see that happen, well it kinda wipes away your notion that everything we see it normal and explainable. But hey now you guys thing I'm crazy, which is why I don't like telling my stories. Seriously, why are being such a dick just because I believe in aliens, it's ludicrous."

So you see something poke out of her stomach and suddenly you abandon your entire rational framework for reality, and become willing to believe in anything without supporting evidence?

Did you ever think to, oh, I dunno, take her to a doctor and find out what it was? Or take a photograph, or video?

I deserve it? Why, cause I think differently than you? You almost come off as a troll, but hey I'm still discussing this with you as nicely as possible. You care too much about what other people think and say. If you wish to have your beliefs respected and agreed with, it is up to you to earn that respect - you are not, prima facie, entitled to it. And here, today, you have failed to do so, and you should not chalk it up to the imagined deficiencies of the people you have failed to impress. It's juvenile and makes you look silly.
As far as your view that the world we live in MIGHT be crawling with aliens - I agree with that view, but hold it to be pointless. You see, there MIGHT be leprechauns living at the bottom of my garden. There MIGHT be unicorns, and ghosts, and Loch Ness Monsters. There MIGHT be ANYTHING. Possible means little or nothing. We live in a world in which an infinite number of things are POSSIBLE - but in which a finite number of things are actually true. And for that reason, most people don't put a lot of weight on that which is possible, and restrict themselves to that which is reasonably demonstrable - and you shouldn't hold it against them, or take it as an insult to yourself or your own views - it's just the way most modern, western people think. And I'm pretty sure that myself and many other people in this thread have done much more research on the topic than you have.
You have a story about some, as you said, "crazy lady"s stomach, and thats it.
I have 2 boxes of FOIA documents, that lead me to conclude, that theres nothing but our own governments advanced weapons and aircraft program. (see: stealth bomber)

People much smarter than me or you have already treated this subject, and found it to be a waste of time and resources. Which is why SETI had to go public, they had no funding, and had to turn to people who dont realize the sheer scale of what they think they are trying to do.

You are basing an entire set of beliefs on something that you just assumed, if not wanted, to be true.

TheJoe03: "So you think it's impossible for any rational person to think aliens might have been to earth?"

No, they might well think that. But they wouldn't be rational, but instead otherwise rational. Just as many otherwise rational people have their own particular irrational pet beliefs.

TheJoe03: "That's what bugs me about your viewpoint, you're just so damn sure of yourself and fail to see that you might be wrong. I know I might be wrong, but you guys will never concede that you are humans just like me, and really have no more info on the topic than I do."

There's a great deal wrong with this. First, I absolutely concede that I might be wrong. That doesn't mean that I am. I also concede that I am a human being like you, but it doesn't therefore follow that we're equally knowledgeable or rational. You keep making these logically untenable statements in which one thing is supposed to follow from another, but doesn't. This is exactly what I and others meant when we criticized your logic earlier, but you then asserted that there was nothing wrong with your logic, precisely the sort of behavior you just chided us for.

TheJoe03: "Regardless of insurance, she just didn't wanna go. People tend to look at you weird (as evidenced by this thread), when you say something like that happened. And here, today, you have failed to do so, and you should not chalk it up to the imagined deficiencies of the people you have failed to impress. It's juvenile and makes you look silly."

Beautifully said.

TheJoe03: That's cool, you don't believe me, whatever.

The point is that you can not always trust your senses. In most cases, there is a perfectly rational (and reproducible) explanation.

Case in point; I've had several "abduction experiences". Each time, it was at night as I started to drift off to sleep. I'd become fully paralyzed and could almost see a presence in the room in spite of the lack of light. Most importantly, I could feel the presence. It was otherworldly, alien and terrifying. At that point, I'd blank out and wake up in the morning with no memory of what happened next.

Typical alien abduction, right? No. The experience is quite real but there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. I'm willing to bet that there are several people on this forum that can provide it.

It is the people who have this experience and don't bother to question there own perceptions it who generate alien abduction stories (as well of several other folk tales)

I see this convo is going nowhere, and I got shiat to do. Enjoyed the debate, it was interesting, and didn't devolve into a bunch of anger like most threads do. Both sides got their opinions, and there really is no way to find the real truth behind it all. I continue to think there is life we don't know about, and personally I think they've come here, but that's just me. One day we might all know what's really going on, and I'm sure we can all agree that it would be incredible to finally know something we've tried to discover for many years. Much love to Zamboro, Prophetica, and TastyEloi for the spirited debate, even if they did give me lots of shiat and insinuated I was mental. Peace y'all.

Hey, do you have a throwaway or spam-catcher email account you wouldn't mind posting so I could contact you off-Fark? I really am curious about the thing you saw.

TheJoe03: I don't care that people don't agree with me, just that they are being assholes about it, that is all. Maybe you don't have respect when talking to people, but I believe in that, even when you disagree with someone. Class is something we should all try and have.

Fair enough - but since I , at least, am NOT being a dick to you about it, that's irrelevant to you and me. I'm just saying that you can't expect most people to make the jump from "might be true" to "true" without somebody building them a fairly solid bridge between the two. As I already mentioned, buddy, just about ANYTHING is "possible" - but relatively few things are demonstrably true. And after our species history of devoutly believing all kinds of myths and superstitions that MIGHT have been true, but turned out not to be, many of us have gotten a great deal more fastidious about what we will accept as actual evidence of something's reality and existence. This is an abstract philosophical position, and not a manifesto of hostility directed at you, and I think it is unfortunate and counterproductive for you to get defensive about it. And as far as people expressing themselves in ways that are perhaps less polite than they might be - this IS, after all, Fark. You have to employ a few filters of your own (mental and emotional ones) if you are going to converse with people around here - especially when you are trying to espouse an unpopular view. That's just human nature, and the madness of crowds, and you gotta deal with it.

Might be the closest thing to "proof" we will ever have, the affidavit of that Haut guy.

If it's true or not, who knows.. But most people wouldn't wait until their death to reveal something significant unless of course something would happen to them beforehand.

Oh, but there is. It's called reason.

What reason states that it's impossible for their to be aliens out there, and they might possibly check out this earth. Us humans try to check out what we can (moon, mars, venus, saturn, etc). Is it so irrational to think they might find this planet interesting.

The possibility? Not that irrational, especially when you limit it to just the possiblility of inelligent life being somewhere out there.

It's all the specifics that tend to defy reason.
