It's mine! All mine!

2008-04-12 11:38:15 PM
A mine that uses seagulls as shrapnel?! Brilliant!

2008-04-12 11:45:40 PM
Did anyone else misread that as "German mime" and get excited? Or was that just me?

2008-04-13 12:30:24 AM
Pfft...that's only the THIRD most cool pic of a german mine from ww2 being blown up I expect to see in the next 26 mins.

2008-04-13 01:13:24 AM
Yeah, those seagulls soon died of over eating.

2008-04-13 06:27:02 AM
I blame Hitler.

2008-04-13 07:04:02 AM
Yeah, what Megain said.

(Submitted it many hours ago, but no green.)

2008-04-13 07:06:21 AM
That's one way to catch fish, I suppose.
I wonder what Greenpeace would say if they accidently blew up a whale when they detonated that thing?

2008-04-13 07:11:50 AM
They're mining Germans now? Good thing I got around to making new ones the fun way.

2008-04-13 07:13:04 AM

"It will be talked about for years to come. We saw a huge plume of water gush into the air, which was followed by a loud bang and 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from the crowd."

Yeah... it's cool and all, but if you find yourself raving over this even a year from now, chances are you lead a rather meaningless existence. Sorry.

What's happening in 26 minutes I need to know about? That's when I'll need to be at the gym!

2008-04-13 07:41:50 AM
If you read it this way...kinda strange...

The 10ft-long, 26in-wide mine, dropped by a German aircraft, was due to be detonated on Friday night but technical difficulties delayed the operation.

...it was due to be detonated about 60 years ago.

Was it the 'cartoon type' of mine with spikes all over it?

Day_Old_Dutchie: Was it the 'cartoon type' of mine with spikes all over it?

Looked more like a giant beer keg... lucky it wasn't discovered by a Farker...

This photo shows the 10ft, 26 inch diameter sea mine being examined after it was partially submerged in mud on the island.

Despite being on Stert for many years, it has only recently become visible with shifting sands and mud.
Thanks Megain (new window)

Spring Breakers would have thought it was a lost beer keg.
Hell, I might have, too.

2008-04-13 09:04:48 AM

The Daily Mail has a list of required topics for comments apparently, here we go.

I am surprised that the "do-gooder" brigade did not try and stop this as it may have killed a few fish. Let's have a public enquiry.

- Mike Jones, Paignton, UK

Shame the whole Labour cabinet were not sat on top of it.

- Antony Graham, southport England

George: Oh, sir, just one more thing - if we should happen to tread on a mine, what do we do?

Blackadder: Well, normal procedure, Lieutenant, is to jump 200 feet into the air and scatter yourself over a wide area.

/My favorite Blackadder quote.

Pixelvision:

Those seagulls are clearly falling at the speed of gravity. How can they be falling at the speed of gravity.

Truthers ftw!!!

Telephone Sanitizer Second Class: Did anyone else misread that as "German mime" and get excited? Or was that just me?

I misread it. But it was because I misunderstood the kind of mine they were talking about. I thought they blew up a farking coal mine or something.
Until I read it again and realized that that didn't make any sense.

Stupid English language with words that are spelled and pronounced the same, but mean completely different things.
Makes me want to drive on the parkway and park in the driveway.

2008-04-13 10:54:01 AM
Suck my dick, I'm an exploding WWII mine!
