This. I love traveling by train, but it's too damn slow! We need a high speed intercontinental train that connects Boston to LA, with stops at all the major cities in between. God, if I could get from Pittsburgh to NYC in under four hours, I'd swing out there on the weekends.

American Airlines is actually one of the best airlines out there. They are trying hard to do their job everyday. Once in a while they make a mistake, but they are much better than Southwest and United, not to mention those crappy foreign carriers like Virgin and Quantas. Also, complaining just hurts american jobs. Stop trying to think you know how to run an airline, these things happen. Flying in general has gotten better lately, despite what you hear in the media hype.

They had 18 months to do these inspections.
This was intentional, clearly.

Hey. Why don't we just Rickroll AA.

2008-04-11 10:09:53 AM
AA tried to kill me going from Dallas to Pittsburgh 2 years ago.. Plane did a couple partial rolls and didn't want to listen to the pilots anymore. I think the rudder was hosed up... They yell 'heads down touch down' when making emergency landings, I found.

Then 5 months later had a landing gear issue.. that was not as scary

It's about time they get inspections done!

I would like to ask those people at the airports who are biatching about the situation one simple question.

"Would you rather be flying on an aircraft with this known mechanical problem and has not been fixed??"

For me, I want them to take as much time as they need to make sure my plane is fixed.

This is the first time I've ever seen "crappy" and "Virgin" (airlines) in the same sentence. I have never flown a carrier I've enjoyed as much as that one, and I'd say Continental does it much better than American as well.

At least they are flying.

Perhaps the point you're missing is that they had 18 months to do them without cancelling people's flights. I'm pretty sure nobody here is suggesting the inspections/repairs not be done. Then again I'm sure you already knew that.

Read this:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/10/american-continues-to-cut_n_96139.htm l

I present:

"The FAA noted that airlines had 18 months to complete the work on the MD-80s since the initial order was issued in September 2006."

They've been flying these aircraft with "known mechanical problems" for 18 months. This is a bailout attempt, nothing more. Don't feed me that crock of shiat about safety.

Baloney.

I'm trying to schedule a flight. I go to a web site and find prices ranging from $750 to $4,200 for the same seat. Go to a different web site and get totally different choices with totally different prices.

Move a travel day up or back by one and everything changes.

Go through the same exercise a couple of days later and everything I had selected before has changed and the prices are different. Usually up.

Did you also happen to have a view of Logan Airport on the morning of 9/11?

You can thank me later.
