She's just getting her kids ready for the jobs they'll get in the 20th century.

Parental luddites are the worst. They make kids who think they're better than the other people because of something they DON'T know.

I'd probably skip on the 900-channel digital cable, but I'd let the kids watch TV so they don't think the TV is trying to steal their soul when a teacher throws in an educational DVD

They're going to have pretty farked up childhoods. Because Rosie has a cavalcade of personality problems, not the lesbianism.

FTA There's no television and no computer access. It has changed our lives."

she added this little diddy about the kids school... ummm, I hope they don't want to grow up and have a career that involves, you know, using a computer.

Gonna hafta keep 'em away from adults, too.

Way to put your kids ten years behind the curve when they hit high school and have to write, oh, I don't know, a 5 page paper. (Or are they gonna grow up to be Paris Hilton-esque who make their money by being famous and stupid?)

I have a friend who honestly thinks computers are taking over a la the matrix. I laughed the first time he said it, thinking he was joking. He wasn't.

I guess she's not gonna let her play with other kids either since they all watch TV and use the internet. Of course what kid is gonna be interesting to them anyways since they've never watched sesame street or anything else for that matter?

Consider what really exists on the internet.

Skynet would scream LONGCAT IS LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and hack myspace accounts if it ever existed.

Yes, it's truly brilliant to raise computer-illiterate children in a world that's becoming increasingly dependent on the computer.

The internet is putting the used bookstores, and antique malls around here out of business, and I can't even get a copy of the recently released film El Cid without ordering it from the internet, as the stores around here only carry what they consider to be the "hip and happening" films coming out on DVD.

Not to mention the already-mentioned necessity of using a computer when you get to high school, and university.

And good luck finding a workplace that doesn't use computers. I guess she wants her children to be dumb, mollycoddled, celebrities like herself.

Rosie O'Donnell is the shining example of a hypocrite.

She made her money on the television and screen mediums, now she doesn't want her kids to watch? It's "changed their lives"?

Remember when she chastised Tom Selleck for being pro-gun, but yet had armed security bringing her kids to school?

I'd like to know what's so bad about these mediums that's made her millions is now so toxic? Maybe she should give away all the money she ever made doing these things and show us that she MEANS what she's saying

I can't even begin to imagine how much hatred and intolerance those kids are being taught.

Why doesn't she move them into a cave also and protect them from all technology? I wonder how well these kids are going to do in the workforce when they can't even operate a pc?

No internet access? How is she posting those God-awful, pseudo-intellectual "poems" and rants on her website then?

If you want a good look into the eyes o'crazy, check out her site when you get a chance. No, I will not link it for you. Skynet will send me a lesbian Terminator hellbent on raping me if it finds that website in my history.

Good for her. If she wants to raise these kids this way, let her. It means the competition for my kids to get into a decent school and to get decent jobs is reduced by 4 people.

If the computers ever gained a consiousness, I think they would take one look at the internet and find a way to nuke the whole planet from deep orbit just to make sure nothing, including itself, survivied.

/Case in point:
/BME Olympics, gootse, The 2-Girls series, Lolcats, Leet-speak, myspace, youtube and those damn badgers.

There is no way those kids cannot have internet access. My kids download project directions on the schools websites all of the time.

She's an idiot.

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

She'll let her dog lick her kids' naked butts to cure diaper rash and give them permanent mental scars by bathing naked with them, but she won't let them watch TV or use a computer. Ok, they're her kids. She can do that if she wants.

/I don't think they are really missing anything by being kept from TV and PC anyway.

2008-04-09 01:34:50 PM
No TV anywhere? Wow.

I'll admit I never had a TV at home as a kid, and honestly probably wouldn't have one for my own kids either. AT HOME. I have a sad excuse for a TV now, but don't watch it. I do watch DVDs and downloaded stuff though.

If they want to watch TV elsewhere, no problem by me. I watched TV at my friends' houses growing up too.

Computer I definitely use, but I can understand limiting computer time for little kids. I guess the main thing is, you don't want the kid to ONLY be interacting with screens and simulations all the time.

In modern schools I can't see trying to get by without a computer. Ideally we'd have a few computers, INCLUDING a junked "can be overwritten at any time and farked up if you want to play around with it, without endangering the good always-reliable internet appliance" computer, to encourage that sort of messing around.

In fairness, there's a difference between advocating licensed officers access to handguns and the advocation of handing them away to anyone. I'm not advocating either, but her argument is consistent.

Leave it to a dumb-ass to simply declare a thing off-limits rather than teach responsible use.

lilygirl: I wonder how well these kids are going to do in the workforce when they can't even operate a pc?

You can learn "how to use a PC" enough for non-technical desk job life pretty easily.

I think more important is the access to information a computer gives you, plus the ability to write and edit a lot (being able to type and reedit your stuff).

This is yet another case of Rosie's batshiat crazy behavior affecting the kids negatively.

When at least one of the kids was an infant, she put the kibosh on life-partner Kelli Carpenter breast-feeding them because she didn't like that Kelli and the baby were bonding in a way that she didn't get to experience.

/No Rosie breast-feeding jokes please.

I don't see how she can forbid her children access to the internet and then post creepy pictures of them on it, which I believe endangers them. Remember the hoopla over that pic of her daughter dressed up with fake bullets and guns? Why in the hell can she play with guns given her mother's political agenda? Rosie is one bipolar, borderline type individual.

2008-04-09 01:48:27 PM
She has some serious mental problems.

2008-04-09 02:05:44 PM
Yeah, I wasn't allowed to watch TV as a kid except with my parents, but typing and word processing at the least are valuable skills that you should probably pick up as a kid when it takes 4 weeks to master, instead of waiting until you're nearly adult when it will take a year or longer. Plus you really need to learn proper handling of electronics in general -- a lot of people who don't have a firm grasp on this are already suffering for it, and it's only going to get worse. And on the third mutant hand, giving kids something technical to work with (computer, building blocks, model airplanes, whatever) is, I'm told, good for mental development and manual dexterity, though not being a development expert I have no real way to verify this.

In conclusion, computer = good for kids. Just don't plug it into the internet if the internet bothers you.

Wow. I can't believe some of you morons are actually defending T.V.

Are you kidding me?

Kids should be reading or playing outside- not sitting in front of a freakin' television all day. Who cares that the ADULT of the house is online ?!? She's an adult. They can learn how to use computers later on. I don't think any of them are even teenagers, yet. They've got time. I doubt many of you had computers as children- you learned, didn't you?
