"Improper pontiff attire"

What's wrong with the accuracy of the depiction? It doesn't show a priest molesting a boy while the pope watches and masturbates?

This is perhaps the least news-y thing I have ever read. I could give a fark what the Archdiocese of Washington thinks of an ad. Here's a thought Archdiocese, try not molesting children.

wearing improper Pontiff attire

Maybe it was improper Pontiff attire to prevent getting sued for unauthorized merchandise?

Anyway isn't it a little sad that the pope needs or wants to protect his image rights, or even has any?

Well, I think the real concern here is that Catholics and Muslims are derived from the same religion, and we all know what happened when certain comics were made of a certain mascot of a certain religion.

The doll, which was purchased off eBay by Metro, was wearing improper Pontiff attire.

I picture some Catholic Geek criticizing it like "the bobblehead is all wrong. He's clearly supposed to be wearing Easter Regalia but his Triregnum is the pre-19th Cardinal Congress style, and his Pallium is Pope John Paul's, not Pope Benedicts..."

I am so flipping happy I no longer consider myself catholic -

Such a group of turds - catholic mass has to be one of the worst experiences out there, the priests (in my experience) all dwell on the gloom of the world. I had to deal with 8 years of catholic school and 16 years of mass (I would drop in from time to time after that, but it was always the same)

I am not an atheist now, but I am not a catholic, or christian for that matter either - could there be a god, maybe... are there chances that there is no god, sure.

I don't know, all I do know is organized religion is F'd up and it makes people do stupid things.

Unauthorized merchandise? If these goobers are actually authorizing merchandise then fark their tax-exempt status.

Do they have a trademark on silly hats and men wearing Bea Arthur cut evening gowns at all hours too?

The Bobblehead should have been wearing an appropriately large miter (big pointy hat).

My religious friend and his family (who used to be Catholic before going Evangelical) have been noticing that Pope Benedict's miters have been getting bigger and his robes more ornate. Basically he's going back into medieval pomp and luxury.

That's because he finally got his tier-3 raid equipment. When he gets the whole set he'll have +200 armor and double procs on shadow ice.

" What's wrong with the accuracy of the depiction?"

He doesn't look like he eats kittens for breakfast. In fact they made him look quite a bit more pleasant.

What would you market it as? Pope Bobblehead just isn't a catchy enough name...
I was thinking this one over and was trying to combine the word Pope with the word Bobble, and all I came up with was Popple.
However that name is already taken. (I had ten or so of those toys when I was a kid. Even kept them in a Popple lunchbox.)

It does in the wide shot.

I love how Catholicism is the only religion it's still P.C. to rip on.

Because nobody on ever rips on Protestants, or Jews, or Muslims, or Wiccans, or Scientologists, or Mormons. Nope, never. I've never ever seen goofy representations of Buddha or Hindu deities. Nope. Never.

All religions are made fun of. In fact, all public people are made fun of. If nobody had heard of the Pope, he'd be safe from parody. Being ridiculed is the price you pay for being a public personage.

I never said other religions don't get ripped on. It's just still P.C. to rip on Catholics.

That is because a lot of the people doing the ripping are ex-catholics who have been there and know what's up

This. A million times over. In spite of what people think of Catholicism, openly hostile attitudes towards Catholics, not just the hierarchy, are openly accepted. Say similar things about Jews and you are deemed anti-semitic, say similar things about Muslims and you are deemed intolerant.

There is a wonderful book, The New Anti-Catholicism: The Last Acceptable Prejudice written by a Professor of History and Religion at Penn State, Philip Jenkins. He is not a Catholic. It speaks of how the Catholic Church's role in WWII is grossly distorted, how the media negatively portrays the church and points out many other historical inaccuracies that are commonly thrown about on Fark as the truth.

Then again, I am just an apologist troll who condones the sexual abuse of children.

/Continue with your Catholic bashing.
//Flame on.

I think it's socially acceptable to poke fun at scientology and cults.
I however have never met an ex-scientologist or ex-cultist. Perhaps because no one wants to admit they were temporarily insane enough to believe some of that stuff scientology preaches... or in the case of the cult, they're dead.
