Which is exactly why the tax was so successful, right?

When the double-whammy of a nationwide recession hit in 1990, followed by the introduction of a federal luxury tax in 1991, the company went from 1,500 employees in two plants to just 80 employees in one plant.

Nestea Plunge: Why do you guys worship rich people?

Because not only do they employ people (the owner of my company is a very wealthy individual for example) but they also have money to spend in businesses like the one I work for. I could continue on about charitable work among other things but you know this already.

yeah, i know, it's hard even for an evil GOP creep like me to defend wealthy people like oprah and david geffen and hillary clinton, but sometimes you have to point out the obvious stupidity of a statement, policy or attitude even when it pains you to do so, for the sake of consistency.

The one thing the rich shouldn't cut down on is diuretics. Our economy needs more trickle-down.

Exactly.

Recently, many people were supporting the SCHIP tax which would have greatly increased cigar taxes. (Up to $10 per stick.) They didn't seem to care, because the tax went after those "dirty smokers". OLRY? Well how about all those small business owners who run smoke shops? Or tobacco farmers in CT who grow Connecticut shade wrapper tobacco?

This is the only thread thus far where people haven't biatched about wealthy people.

Except for one person in the entire world, someone will always have more money than you. Get over it. Hug your kids/wife/life-partner/friends and smile.

You're a farking moron. Why do you feel ANYTHING to a group of people because of their income bracket? I judge people based on their character, not their income statement. Then again, I'm not some typical Fark asshole who feels that the world owes me something, so there's that...

A quick google search shows 248 builders in the Netherlands, 64 in the US, and 376 worldwide.

So that is a 17% chance of being a US maker.

Who gives a fark?

Well, maybe the low income workers at the hotels, meat plants, and Ship building docks who are getting laid off?

Ridicule "trickle down" economics all you want, but shiat rolls downhill too.

*sigh*

You fund national health care by placing an additional tax on all firearms, ammunition, and reloading supplies.

If you're going to pay $1500 for a Colt AR-15, an additional $50 isn't going to matter much.

Also, increase the suppressor stamp tax to $250. Voila. Self-fulfilling.

That should be easy because no country has an extrication treat with the US. Extradition perhpas, but since when is earning a decent living a crime?

bronyaur1: It is very important and honorable to hate people who make more money than I do.

Remember: any criticism of wealthy people is born of pure jealousy, and is evil, since lower income people rely on their spending.

Noting the fact that they're quite often assclowns is downright un-American.

I honestly believe that there are very few people who genuinely begrudge others their income. I also honestly believe there are a lot more people who become apologists for the behavior of the wealthy because they fantasize that it will somehow win them "truth" points.

Marie Antoinette was beheaded because people were jealous of her jewelry. NOT, I repeat, NOT because she was a shiathead.

I can totally relate.

I've had to cut back on paying my rent, eating, buying new shoes, car payments, and insurance.

The tax money doesn't evaporate. In fact, it probably goes to pay more people than the cigarette tax does, since government employees tend to be on a somewhat flatter pay-scale (much lower caps) than private ones.

Now, in an economic downturn, that's a different story - the jobs in question are totally vanishing. But with taxation? The money is still employing people, just different people.
