Two years ago, former Postal Service worker Paul Ryan, 60, had a nervous breakdown and couldn't work unlike other postal workers suffering a nervous breakdown, didn't become a Fark headline right away.

they bought the 1,043-square-foot apartment that he had purchased in 2003 and let him stay at no charge.

So he's not a renter then?

Although the life estate and Palm Beach County property records put the apartment in Ryan's name, "the board said he wasn't the unit owner so he couldn't stay,

What a crock of s---. It is very common for older people to sell their homes to their children in exchange for a life estate for tax planing purposes (though that bit us when my mother went bankrupt from medical bills at the same time we were selling her condo to put her in assisted living). The same rules should apply here (which is what an attorney will argue). Some of these board members will probably want to do the same soon and, well, karma can be a bit of a biatch.

*shiver*

No, thanks.

My guess as to the real motivation here is not undotted "i"s and uncrossed "t"s.

If he's not renting, they can't increase his rent or get rid of him and charge a new leasee more money.

I'm the president of my condo board. Don't even think about buying those green curtains, mister. And we need to talk about the rock at the end of your driveway. It is not regulation.

2008-04-04 02:56:28 PM
Yeah, my last experience with a condo board was...

Your boat is too long. (24.5') Rules allowed for 25'

But they decided to measure transom and windlass. 28'.

While the piece of shiat uncovered, not running pontoon boat filled w/ trash (but owned by an association board member) sat RIGHT NEXT TO MINE, and no one ever did anything about it.

Also, I had parked my boat backed in, in a slip closest to the sea wall so people wouldn't have to navigate around it. I kept it covered. And it runs fine (they argued that it didn't...).

Now, I live in an unincorporated area with the same boat on a trailer next to my house on 2.25 acres. And no one will complain, cause they have no right to now. As long as I keep the tag up to date, not even county code enforcement can touch me.

/Oh yeah. My rent went DOWN!

Could they do that anyway?

From I understand, they don't own that condo. How is they would make any money any way, no matter who was living there. I just don't understand why they want him out.

My mother has gone through condo board crap with some power-mad old hag in her condos. I told her to start answering the door while cleaning a shotgun.
