"Owner Janet Lippincott says a group of young people bounded over her backyard fence and swarmed the yellow-billed Pekin duck with pellet guns on March 17. "

What the fark is it with people who get their kicks out of being cruel to animals? I can understand hunting ducks, and hunting animals . . . thems duck gumbo and deer sausage is mighty good eatin', but to do this to a helpless animal - just for jollies, those are some seriously messed up kids. I'd have their juvenile file tagged for close watch.

Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer, and lots more seriously psychopathic people started out abusing animals. The link is too strong to ignore and too dangerous for society in general to ignore as well.

Savages. People who torment defenceless animals should be forced to consume their own cooked genitals.

"Owner Janet Lippincott says a group of young people bounded over her backyard fence and swarmed the yellow-billed Pekin duck with pellet guns on March 17."

I tried to warn the duck to move its head downwards in a sudden motion of avoidance, but I couldn't think of a verbally economical way to do so.

CROWD: A witch! A witch! A witch! We've got a witch! A witch!
VILLAGER #1: We have found a witch, might we burn her?
CROWD: Burn her! Burn!
BEDEMIR: How do you know she is a witch?
VILLAGER #2: She looks like one.
BEDEMIR: Bring her forward.
WITCH: I'm not a witch. I'm not a witch.
BEDEMIR: But you are dressed as one.
WITCH: They dressed me up like this.
CROWD: No, we didn't... no.
WITCH: And this isn't my nose, it's a false one.
BEDEMIR: Well?
VILLAGER #1: Well, we did do the nose.
BEDEMIR: The nose?
VILLAGER #1: And the hat -- but she is a witch!
CROWD: Burn her! Witch! Witch! Burn her!
BEDEMIR: Did you dress her up like this?
CROWD: No, no... no ... yes. Yes, yes, a bit, a bit.
VILLAGER #1: She has got a wart.
BEDEMIR: What makes you think she is a witch?
VILLAGER #3: Well, she turned me into a newt.
BEDEMIR: A newt?
VILLAGER #3: I got better.
VILLAGER #2: Burn her anyway!
CROWD: Burn! Burn her!
BEDEMIR: Quiet, quiet. Quiet! There are ways of telling whether
she is a witch.
CROWD: Are there? What are they?
BEDEMIR: Tell me, what do you do with witches?
VILLAGER #2: Burn!
CROWD: Burn, burn them up!
BEDEMIR: And what do you burn apart from witches?
VILLAGER #1: More witches!
VILLAGER #2: Wood!
BEDEMIR: So, why do witches burn?
[pause]
VILLAGER #3: B--... 'cause they're made of wood...?
BEDEMIR: Good!
CROWD: Oh yeah, yeah...
BEDEMIR: So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?
VILLAGER #1: Build a bridge out of her.
BEDEMIR: Aah, but can you not also build bridges out of stone?
VILLAGER #2: Oh, yeah.
BEDEMIR: Does wood sink in water?
VILLAGER #1: No, no.
VILLAGER #2: It floats! It floats!
VILLAGER #1: Throw her into the pond!
CROWD: The pond!
BEDEMIR: What also floats in water?
VILLAGER #1: Bread!
VILLAGER #2: Apples!
VILLAGER #3: Very small rocks!
VILLAGER #1: Cider!
VILLAGER #2: Great gravy!
VILLAGER #1: Cherries!
VILLAGER #2: Mud!
VILLAGER #3: Churches -- churches!
VILLAGER #2: Lead -- lead!
ARTHUR: A duck.
CROWD: Oooh.
BEDEMIR: Exactly! So, logically...,
VILLAGER #1: If... she.. weighs the same as a duck, she's made of wood.
BEDEMIR: And therefore--?
VILLAGER #1: A witch!
CROWD: A witch!
BEDEMIR: We shall use my larger scales!
[yelling]
BEDEMIR: Right, remove the supports!
[whop]
[creak]
CROWD: A witch! A witch!
WITCH: It's a fair cop.
CROWD: Burn her! Burn! [yelling]
BEDEMIR: Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?
ARTHUR: I am Arthur, King of the Britons.
BEDEMIR: My liege!
ARTHUR: Good Sir knight, will you come with me to Camelot,
and join us at the Round Table?
BEDEMIR: My liege! I would be honored.
ARTHUR: What is your name?
BEDEMIR: Bedemir, my leige.
ARTHUR: Then I dub you Sir Bedemir, Knight of the Round Table.

Not necessarily, but considering the two examples you cited weren't exactly stupid, it doesn't do much to help your case...

The article says a group of teens, but the only suspect mentioned is 21 years old?!?!??

If you are 21, running around with a bunch of teenagers shooting ducks with a pellet gun, you have major problems.

RedfordRenegade: If you are 21, running around with a bunch of teenagers shooting ducks with a pellet gun, you have major problems.

19 is still "teen". 21 -> 19 isn't bad.

Now, if the teens were 13 and 14, yeah, serious problem.

/not that he doesn't obviously have problems, shooting ducks with a pellet gun, but that has little to do with his choice of company

IXI Jim IXI Not necessarily, but considering the two examples you cited weren't exactly stupid, it doesn't do much to help your case...

One of them was, the other one I said he stayed intellectual through, and didnt take the tough guy route.

Look at any thread anywhere about animal cruelty and you always see the guys who are like "these guys should be skinned alive and have their genitals ground up and fed to them". That's what I expected to see, and was not dissapointed. It's an incredibly emotional knee-jerk response to animal cruelty combined with a internet tough guy attitude that never fails to make me roll my eyes.

bigmoneygrip is the one who had it right - not saying his POV on the subject is correct, but his response is

It's someone shooting at a cute little duck with a pellet gun. Of COURSE there's going to be an emotional response. Wanting someone who dealt a bit of cruelty to get some cruelty back? Extreme, but somewhat warranted.

Now, if someone comes in here and says "see...all this animal cruelty...you people need to become vegans NOW! Meat is murder! Meat is murder!" then yeah...over the line ;)

That's not "internet tough guy". ITG is "If that had been my duck I would have skinned him alive and ground up hs genitals and fed them to him."

Merely wishing it to happen, rather than claiming one would make sure it happened, is not ITG.

I suppose. It always does entertain me that these reactions are always present in animal cruelty threads, but virtually nonexistant anywhere else. A guy stabs a stranger to death? A woman drowns her children? A guy beats up a guy in a wheelchair? You'll never see this anywhere else - I find that amusing.
