"We're talking the mountains up here, and the first thing you usually think of is drunk rednecks. But the fact they moved from one exit to another makes me think it wasn't just someone there shooting off their gun."

Are the ethnic slurs from necessary?

The first thing I think of is hillbilly sex.

What do you call the sweat between two hillbillies gettin' it on?

Robert Caldwell, owner of Duner's, said he took I-64 Thursday morning and noticed police at every overpass. "I've never seen so many state police," he said.

Well, they don't seem to be patrolling it now, so I suppose they aren't too concerned...

/just drove at an incredible rate of speed from Charlottesville to Waynesboro via I-64

I saw an episode of The Andy Griffith Show recently where Andy, under the gun from a state police inspector for running a loose outfit, defused just such a situation by simply walking up to the sniper, grabbing him by the arm and telling him he "ought to be ashamed of himself!"

/Yes, I just followed a Bill Hicks post with a 1961 episode from Mayberry...

'Redneck' is a derogatory term for a white, just as nicker is to blacks. Therefore, if one is off limits, so should be the other.

No, it indicates a particular cultural segment of the white population. "Derogatory" I won't dispute too hard.

(My first guess was "dumb redneck". A co-worker thought that was rude; I pointed out I was not being redundant, but specifying the stupid ones, since I know some durn smart rednecks.)

On the local news this morning they reported that the shooters left an orange Pacer (I think) on the side of Route 29 right near the Greene/Albemarle county line...I saw that vehicle on the side of the road yesterday morning on the way in to work and said to my wife "oh look, the redneck snipers' car broke down".

On the way home there were 4 squad cars and a flat-bed near the same car. Turns out security camera footage caught the same car on tape shooting up a bank in Waynesboro.

Strange.

I live in Charlotteville, ny. And at first, I thought, wow, nobody told me about this at the general store, and I KNOW they've all got their police scanners going.

Then I realized that it was CharlotteSville, VA - the Big City. So it doesn't surprise me.

I can tell you.

It's because urbanites, despite claims of being multicultural and cosmopolitan, are just as provincial and petty as everyone else.

They need someone to look down on, and rednecks fill the bill, because political correctness won't let them look down on anyone else.

Hmm. No mention in *any* of the articles reporting this that the police are looking for an early 70's Gremlin in connection to the shootings. Heard it on the radio first thing this morning.

Anyway... when I heard about that, this was the first thing I thought of:

The one in Wise wouldn't count anyway. It's a glorified community college. If you graduated from VT, it's a pretty safe bet you didn't apply to UVA-Wise.

True rednecks are rural. They will tolerate suburbs to some degree. But they can't live urban. White trash can.

rnatalie: We prefer the term Appalachian American.

I will have to remember that one.

By the end of the work day yesterday the rumor was going around that the shooters were MS-13 and this whole thing was an initiation. Also the shootings had spread from I-64 to I-81 and there were a bunch more shootings being reported. Of course all of that was total bullshiat. But it didn't stop my wife and all of her co-workers (all female) from being completely paranoid about their drive home.

My wife: "Elizabeth's (a co-worker)husband is a Cop in harrisonburg and he says its the MS-13 gang and they're targeting white cars. (wife drives a white car) So, I left my car here at work and I'm driving the work van home..... Do you have bullets for the guns at home?"

That's a shame...but it's not her fault. She's a victim of all this "gang" bullsh*t the local police have been using to drum up HomeSec and gang-related fundraising for the departments.

I'll never forget Marcia Garst going in front of the state legislature and talking about the "gang crisis" in the 81 Corridor. I don't remember the exact quote, but it was something like "as many as 10 gang members have been arrested in Rockingham County in the last year..."

It's not the *actual* gangs, in most cases, it' just stupid kids pretending to be in gangs. And the cops love it, because it opens up new revenue streams for them.

PS: Most rednecks shooting at cars would hit the drivers. Rednecks drink beer and have good aim. These are probably either some latino crime importers or some white-trash meth heads.
