The thing that I'm most interested in isn't in the article. Is he a Christian?

Because that's turning the other cheek. Know them by their fruits and all that.

Well deserved img1.fark.net here. The world definitely needs more people like this. Walking epitome of the golden rule.

I'd buy him dinner if I ever met him.

Um, lie much? I live in the hood, and this story is about as realistic as Peter Pan.

Give me a friggin' break.

this exact same thing happened to me once. except instead of going back and talking to the mugger, i went home and cried while eating grape nuts and watching silk stalkings.

The same thing happened to me, too, except instead of giving him my coat, I spread it out in the back seat of my car so his blood wouldn't get all over the upholstery.

This exact thing happened to me too. If by going home and crying you mean stabbed the guy in the throat and pissed on his corpse. Yep. The other cheek alright.

Yeah I'm a cynic, this is either complete fabrication or partially true but he left out the part where he actually gave the kid 20bux in exchange for a beej.

At first, this was heartwarming, but as I got to the end, it seemed too perfect; the kind of things pastors talk about, as an earlier post put it.

But I'm not necessarily against love propaganda. There's certainly enough evil propaganda around and balance is good. No dogma here? Check, I'm a-ok with it then.

Best use of the hero tag I've seen in quite some time.

I guess I assume this is true, it's just too odd to make up. If I was going to lie about my generous nature I wouldn't go so complicated. I'd just run around telling people I gave a homeless guy $100.

/Which I did last week. No really!

If he isn't, I'd be surprised.

Though he's acting out the faith a lot better than most Christians I know. Sadly.

Well, if he is a Christian, it's nice that he was good to the kid and all, but he'd still be a member of a cult who wants you and me dead. See: Luke 19:27

No, really, my car ran out of gas just a couple of blocks away with my wife and kids in it, and I'm trying to get a couple of bucks to get a few gallons. Look, I'm carrying a gas can! I can't be lying!

2008-03-28 01:36:37 AM
of course it's real, the guy was just raised right. i think i heard his mom was a hooker with a heart of gold and his dad's a manticore.

2008-03-28 01:37:02 AM
Oh I know! It's a parable! The kid isn't really a kid, you see, he's the government! Because like the government he's using force to get the guy's money, "your money or your life." And he's saying if we just be nice to the government and give them everything they demand and more, they'll leave us alone and give us back our money and ability to arm ourselves...

Wait a second... That's insane!

But, then, so is the idea that any of this actually happened.

Can we tell mugging stories?

'Cause if we can, hooray I have one!

Pre-Katrina, I visited New Orleans for a M:TG tournament and to visit the place. At around 11PM I start to go to the motel my friends and I pitched in to rent a bit drunk. Black kid, just one of them. I am white. My way to convince him to not mug me was quite simple: I would tell him that the only way for him to get my money is to shoot me. And the NO police would look into the shooting of a white guy and, when they discovered that it was from a black kid, that he would get the death penalty. Racism, basically. Well, it worked and he went away.

2008-03-28 01:38:57 AM
This situation would have worked out so much better if the victim was armed. I bet you anti-gun libtards are actually HAPPY the teenage mugger did not wind up as a stain on the subway platform.

So the solution to the gas dillema is to take the guy to the gas station and get him gas, followed by taking him to his car.

Wow, that "Christians are good people because they're Christians" brainwashing program of theirs has worked wonders since the inquisition. It really is a shame Christ told the President to kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis one by one or I'd certainly be applauding Christians right now.

I see this as the story where the drunk guy rolls his car 18 times and walks away with a sprained knee; sure he survived, but I'm not going to try it. In the other 99 versions of this story, he ends up bleeding-out on the subway platform.

Don't have to choose. The government is already "helping" both sides of that coin.

This story sounds made-up. He's a social worker who wants some PR to further his career. If it is true, that guy is damn lucky he didn't just find himself coatless and without a wallet. There are plenty of punks out there who would just stab you for calling out to them as they walked away.

The_Terminator's solution would be a better way to go the other 99.9% of the time a person threatens your life.

Way to commit the logical fallacy of quoting out of context; the entirety of Luke 19:11-27 clearly demonstrates it to be a parable.

Antitheism, by the way, what you are, the open declaration that there is no God or gods, is as much of an illogical belief system as theism. Premise, *nothing*, conclusion. It's that nothing part that makes drawing a conclusion illogical. Your belief is valid, but it is not cogent.

I'm also pretty sure there are no gay elephants in my neighbor's garage. Is that illogical, too?

We do know from empirical objective observation of the universe, scientifically, however, that any supernatural entity that might be out there is nothing like the deities (often contradictingly) described by any major religion.
