I was told by a costume-history professor that sagging pants, as a fashion, originated in prisons where belts were not allowed with the uniforms. People returning from jail discovered that baggy pants could conceal weapons and began to buy clothing accordingly.

So if the only people affected by this law are the ones attempting to emulate a pack of criminals, isn't the law protesting more the behavior of those who wear that style than their skin color? Also, since it's an African-American promoting the bill, could it not be construed as yet more of the sentiment Bill Cosby expressed regarding black youth in America?

Old black people trying to improve young black people...how is this so much racist as ageist?

/Most white or other non-black people I know could give a shiat
//Sagging criminals = tripping criminals = Yay, Darwin!

Still waiting on your link that he said it.

Work happens, sparky. I can't devote all my time to enlightening you on recent events. It was all over the news this morning. Here is a link from MSNBC referencing the NBC News story that ran this morning. Can you discuss this without resorting to personal insults?

Amazing. Still not a single link to something that isn't someone repeating what they think someone else heard.

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs'ry an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "coocoo".

Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodby to you.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

So long, farewell, Au'voir, auf wiedersehen,
I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,
Good bye

I'm glad to go,
I cannot tell a lie.
I flit, I float,
I fleetly flee, I fly.

The sun has gone to bed and so must I
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye!

SpiderQueenDemon: I was told by a costume-history professor that sagging pants, as a fashion, originated in prisons where belts were not allowed with the uniforms. People returning from jail discovered that baggy pants could conceal weapons and...

Stop right there. No one can be this stupid. So, once upon a time the criminals that were NOT in prison were walking around in tight knickers that exposed the barrels of their guns. They could not understand how people knew they were criminals and losing the lelement of surprise was getting many of them thrown in jail. Then, one day an inmate was walking around in his prison-issued garb and he thought to himself, "if I wore pants that were this baggy when I'm NOT in jail, I can conceal weapons and contraband. BRILLIANT!!

If you are stupid enough to believe this...well, I probably shouldn't try to think of a clever analogy because you won't get it, anyway.

I agree the imperial powers cut and ran with no thought to infrastructure, but the communist party has done more to damage Africa then the west ever thought about doing.

To fix it?

lets see the problems are

large land mass

at leat 6 private armies (corporate funded)
80% aids infection in some areas
no banks worth the name
no health care
no insurance industry

You have to be burying your head in the sand. He said, "The Italians look down their garlic noses at the Galileans." It's right there in the Reuters story. That is, from a grammatical standpoint, and entire sentence. And what more from the sentence do you need explained that he called the crucifixion a "public lynching Italian style"? And if you are going to attack my "intellectual honesty," all I can say is at least I don't think that Jesus was crucified in Rome. (Pontus Pilate was Roman, but he was sent from Rome to Jerusalem. His exact position has been the source of some mild debate, but he was Rome's ruling authority in Jerusalem at the time.) (And I know how to spell "judgment.")

Oh, so it's all been fabricated, then? The fact that major news outlets like NBC ran it on the morning news surely means nothing. I'm sure they didn't do any appropriate fact checking before they ran it. I'm sure Reuters just put the story on the wire out of vindictiveness. I have no doubt that Wright will publicly deny these, and the issue of these fabricated slanders will be fully vetted to his vindication.

I believe you were looking for a word that enables people of a minority to have racist tendencies (or be out-and-out racist) towards the majority? How about a phrase: "racial entitlement". Sip, swish, and spit: how's that wine for you, hm?

I really get sick of that kind of racially-entitled rhetoric - not long ago, I heard of a quote from a black person (never mind that he's from the South, BTW) who said that "racism is a white man's thing, I'm just saying what I'm saying". It makes me sick that black men (usually men) can crack wise on Whitey all they want (look at most black comics) but as soon as a white guy makes a passing, somewhat inocuous (sp?) but same comic-level comment about a black person (even calling him 'black'), like Bill Burr says, the podium comes out for the imminent bleeding-heart apology (though for Michael Richards, there was no excuse for that). Kind of like a point Surool and some others whose names escape me have posted earlier.

I'm Asian, and I'm typically the butt of several insults hurled at me by black and Latino men (it's usually the men - I notice they say little about Asian girls), but I remember one time I made a comment in retaliation about Mexicans (out of anger, couldn't be helped, not that it's right, even if I was just talking about the Mexicans in front of me), and I was damn near beated for an apology (it helps being a fast runner and dabbling in parkour).

Ultimatum time, America, where everyone's supposed to be equal: either EVERYONE gets to be racist without penalty, or NO ONE. Choose one. Can't have racism for some. Not fair.

Dude, you just said that you didn't think CNS.com was credible. Look at the other articles, they all refer back to the CNS article.
Do you really think that just because it gets repeated on regular news that it is correct?
That's why you have to go to the source.
