The NFL is shaving horses now? Or are they shaving jockeys?

Not really a bad thing - it's just a matter of time until someone's hair is grabbed and it twists them around until their neck is broken.

The only reason i even care about the NFL anymore, is because i love my team too much to quit on em. Otherwise, it's becoming the sport of milquetoast corporate elitism and it friggin sucks. NFL regular season games in Europe idea just shows you how retarded and greedy these scumbags have become. Goodell is such a fraud. NFL Europe failed for a reason, you friggin idiot!

/i feel better now.

When I played football, I came into practice one year with a bit of a mullet I grew over the summer. Coach called all of us in to his office that had long hair and told us that we had a choice: get a haircut and play football, or go home. All but one of the 6 of us chose the clippers.

In other news, the NFL is in the entertainment business, and may be concerned about something that annoys a significant portion of its core audience.

See: "NASCAR" for tips on how to annoy your core audience and lose attendance and TV ratings in the process.

This will go away fast, the first time some long-haired player cites the story of Samson in the Bible, and insists he'll lose all his strength if his hair gets cut.

Houshmandzadeh!

I've always wondered why coaches don't compel their players to cut their hair in such a way that it doesn't flow beneath their helmets. It seems like you're running around with a freaking handle on your back.

OH GOD THEY'RE HAVING AN IDENTITY!

/seriously, the NFL's goal is to have everyone completely unrecognizable except the QBs

Why did KC propose this? Nobody can read there anyway.

This is the reason I didn't go back out for football in Sachem. Well, that, and I was freaking too lazy to go through another year of practice.

Maybe they were tired of all the Raiders fans getting free haircut on the taxpayer dime.

Just let them grab the hair and make tackles legal.

2008-03-26 10:06:07 PM
FTA: The rule banning long hair on the field was proposed by Kansas City. It does not require players to get haircuts, but does "require them to tuck it up inside their helmets," said Atlanta president Rich McKay, chairman of the league's competition committee.

/Just sayin'

2008-03-26 10:22:46 PM
FARK THAT! These guys are millionaires but they can't let their hair grow long? And yeah Orangie I saw that quote, but you know they really want 'em to cut that shiat off.

/yeah,mine's long,too

2008-03-26 10:28:55 PM
while they are at it, can they ban visible tattoos as well?

2008-03-26 10:38:14 PM
Sigh.

You know in 10-15 years the QB is going to be surrounded by orange cones on the field that a defender isn't allowed to pass and a QB's uniform will include a pink tutu.

What that has to do with this hair thing I dunno but it's all tied together somehow.

Papagolash: Just let them grab the hair and make tackles legal.

It can't be a coincidence that KC brings this up.

In a recent game, the Steelers were killing KC, Troy Polomalu intercepted and was tackled by Larry Johnson. Grabbed him by the hair, dragged him down, yanked him back up. Flag was thrown, fines too I think.

So later that week on NFL network, Rich Eisen was interviewing Mike Ferreria, VP of refereeing. He said tackling by the hair is legal, dragging back up is unnecessary roughness.

So Eisen asks this hypothetical question: if touching the hair would be down by contact, if no other contact was made. Ferreria (?) said something like "if a tackler felt like running his fingers through Polumalu's hair, that would be down by contact. Hilarious.

Sachem?

I grew up at the other end of Park ave. in the next development, but I went to Centereach H.S.

My friends and I would play football on main Sachem field and piss in the home endzone when the team was running laps up the hill.

Once the hair tackle becomes the new horse collar, everything will balance out.

Person Of Interest: Once the hair tackle becomes the new horse collar, everything will balance out.

If people are not allowed to hair tackle as they aren't allowed to horse collar...won't that just kill any incentive to cut their hair?

2008-03-27 09:33:16 AM
It's more than having your hair pulled. When you stuff that much hair into your helmet, it can make it slip off. I tried playing with long hair, and couldn't stand it.

There is no 'I' in team

When you put on a uniform that 40 other guys wear and run plays that depend on 11 other guys to execute - I think your outrage over 'losing your personality and idenity' becomes moot.

/never played team sports because of that

I'm liberal, and in high school, back when I had a decent head of hair, I had long hair. Having said that, it's about time and I only wonder why it took so long (assuming this goes through), because the guys with wavy locks flowing out of their helmets look freaking RIDICULOUS.

Your ability to read is proven in spades...if Raiders fans could read they would know that I am from Denver and most likely a Bronco fan. But asking a Raiders fan to read is like asking Todd Marinovich to lay off the drugs.
