That is very cool! The funny thing is, I bought a bottle of rice vinegar recently with the same shape (and thought the same thing). This must be a new design trend.

I know it's called vodak on Fark, but I remember when my wife used to drink, we would occasionally get a bottle of vodak. If she had too many she would say that she was going to take a nap because she had enough voska

Any suggestions on a type of wine to serve with Ham? Baking it with a bourbon/honey glaze.

Thanks!

If you burn the ham, just drink the rest of the bourbon.

Pinot is ok, but an old mellow zin would complement the strong taste of the ham. enjoy

While it wasn't vodka, it was related. When I was a baby going through teething pains, my pediatrician told my parents to dip a Q-tip into clear grain alcohol (gin, vodka, etc.) and rub on my gums to ease the pain. Every Friday they'd have martinis, and every Friday I'd coincidentally have a bad case of teething pains. :)

When I was about 19, a friend and I bought a fifth of Everclear and mixed it with some crappy-ass powdered Tom Collins mix. We somehow thought that would dilute it I guess. Luckily, we were drunk and passed out before any damage was done.

There is usually a bottle of the cheap stuff in every vet clinic (in the freezer or the DVM's bottom drawer--but never in the pharmacy for some odd reason) for the treatment of antifreeze (ethylene glycol) toxicity. It did come in handy for dissolving adhesives too.
and sometimes after those late night emergencies i wondered why we couldn't stock the better stuff...

I know, rose gets no respect, but I'm not talking Almaden Blush here. Good roses are out there and are getting a bit more attention recently. Wish I could give you some recommendations, but since I'm broke at the moment I haven't exactly been in the wine-exploration business lately. I humbly refer you to Google.

People mention Gin & Tonics as a summer drink...

Besides being a nice, slightly bitter but cold drink on a warm summer afternoon, it has some properties that I particularly enjoy.

Mosquitoes absolutely hate the smell/taste of juniper berries, which is one of the ingredients and main flavors of gin. I accidentally tested this last summer, when my dorm mates convinced me that I really should come drink with them.
Before the evening was over, I'd drunk a whole damn bottle of gin, .70 liters (we're talking Denmark and a metric system here) and I had to get up early and go to my grandparent's summer cottage.

Needless to say, I wasn't all too peppy at 7am, when my brother and his wife show up and we drive off. When we finally get there, I spend most of the day sprawling in a deck chair. The test: the area around the cottage is home to the biggest farking mosquitoes I've ever come across! We're talking invertebrate sparrows with hollow concrete drills, here!
Everyone is slapping away at the farking things, while I just sit and mostly sleep in the deck chair. I noticed a couple of them landing on my bare arms, nose about a bit, then fly on to sweeter tasting targets.

Since then, I've always preferred to have gin & tonic or maybe some Schweppes Lemon handy for those summer afternoons.

And why gin & tonic is good to drink daily in malaria areas: mosquitoes don't like the gin, fair enough, but the quinine (new window) in tonic water, acts as a poison against the malaria parasite. Should one be bitten by a mozzy in spite of the gin, the quinine can add further security.

The moral of the story: gin & tonic ain't just a nice drink, it's good for ya! If you live where there are no mosquitoes (you lucky bastid), then just import some. They're as good a reason as any.

/cheers

FTFA: Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them.

When my sons were little, I'd introduce them to "science experiments" like capturing insects and putting them in a jar with some booze. They'd laugh when the bugs got sluggish and stupid.

But honestly! It's a lot cheaper to buy a can of Raid Wasp Killer than to use precious, heavily taxed booze to kill bugs.

Nope, if you want the rock bottom of vodka, go for Dimitri (I don't think you can find it outside of Chicago, but it's $4.99 for a fifth of vodka that tastes about like paint thinner mixed with bleach). But for the best:

Not to be rude, but if you're mixing Ketel one you're wasting your money. You're better off hitting up a solid middle range vodka, like Titos (I'm in Texas, it's made in Texas, you can't throw a rock without hitting the stuff here).

If you're going straight, then ya, premium is (sometimes) worth the money. But buying Ketel and mixing it is like buying an expensive scotch and then throwing some coke and ice cubes in it.

All bets off for shiatty stuff, like McCormicks. I still shudder to think of the first alcohol I ever had (friend made Mc' Mudslides). shiat tastes like paint thinner, and there's nothing you can do to get over that, except throw out the bottle and find something better.

I second that remark. I like the slightly sweeter taste most vodaks made from potatoes have, and Blue Ice is about half the cost of the comparable one's I've had.

ChadManMn: serpent_sky: Couldn't you do most of that with rubbing alcohol, at a significantly lower cost?

Vodak is ethanol, rubbing alcohol is isopropyl (sp?). Many of the tips would work, but probably not as well.

Maybe a chemist type will stop in and enlighten us with knowledge of the superior magic that is ethanol.

Death by Misadventure: Until I actually drank stuff like Admiral, Grey Goose, Sky....

Working at several liquor stores, I noticed Sky was preferred by closet alcoholics. Airplane bottles cost 99 cents each and it was less detectable than bourbon or rum. Three small bottles in their pocket and off they went to work. I even had a TSA screener in uniform buy them every day.

I just wait til I get home so I don't have to hide my buzz.
