Yes, but his use of those special parts results in his inability to control when the movie begins or ends.

I'm guessing Joel and Mike must not get along. They should have asked him about RiffTrax.

2008-03-19 08:46:42 PM
Oh, it's obvious that Joel and Mike don't get along, and you can see why that is. Joel is totally laid back, but Mike seems like he was probably a used-car salesmen in a previous life. He's a little too...unctious, I guess?

Joel is better. I had zero interest in RiffTrax, but I'll check out Cinematic Titanic.

RiffTrax aren't that bad. Snagged the one for 5th Element ("new and improved Aziz Light, with half the calories!") and got a few laughs.

Actually, Joel chose Mike as his successor. My understanding is they aren't friends, but have a deep appreciation for the other.

It was Joel and Jim Mallon that didn't get along. That's why Joel left.

I've really enjoyed all the Rifftrax I've seen. I've seen about ten, but Glitter by far was the best because it was such a horrid movie.

It has been my understanding that Jim Mallon is an icky doodyhead. There is also evidence that he has kooties, and still wets his bed. As far as I'm concerned, he can go poop on a brick.

Agreed...I never got the "Who is better?" arguments. I personally prefer Joel, but that doesn't mean I didn't like Mike. They have different styles and deliveries, purely a personal preference thing. This wasn't a "Which Darren" situation, because anyone who says Dick Sargent is an assmunch that can go STUF and DIAF.

I also don't get how you can like MST3K but not the Rifftrax since they're basically MST3K with movies people have actually heard of.

My thing with "Cinematic Titanic": even if you preferred Joel, by the time we got to the real golden Joel-era episodes, Mike was the head writer.

Personally, I think the Mike era had better pacing and movie selection on average. I mean, c'mon: Space Mutiny, The Girl in Gold Boots, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank? Warwelf Werewolf? Gutbustingly hilarious episodes.

I thought both Mike & Joel were great...both were good for some good floor-rollers.

I watched the sample for Titanic and a couple of the rifftrax samples. They're good, but they seem to be paced a bit slower. Not sure if I like that so much.

Final Sacrifice
is awesome. And, while we're on the "Final" thing, lets not forget Final Justice (His heart will go ahead on). Then there's Riding with Death (Lucky guy, he's about to find out I'm Ben Murphy)- another favorite. Timechasers (Oh no! I left my keys at the Manchu Wok of the Future!), Future War(More like John Claude Gosh-darn), Soultaker (Bustaker!) are ones my wife and I watch again and again.

Fun fact, Castleton ran off a bunch of those shirts with the logic "Man, we're going to be in a movie! Everyone will want these!" Of course, the six people who saw the film had no interest in buying them- until the MST3K episode aired. Go figure.

haha... I remember reading about how the "time chasers" cast and crew were freaking thrilled to be on MST3K and cooperated above and beyond for best brains... I always thought that was cool. compared to other experiments, the movie was decent and non-creepy (think of all the experiments made by writer/director/stars with issues), and I kinda think they got sort of a loving treatment from mike and the bots.

We used to get baked like a soufflé and watch MST3K back in the day and watch Joel because we were pretty sure he was the only man on the planet more stoned than we were.

Say what you want, I still think Time Chasers is a Back to the Future ripoff

I find this as strange and thrilling news because you know what this means. Mike, Kevin and Bill over at Rifftrax is going to wanna crash Cinematic Titanic's party, and Joel, Josh, Trace, Frank and Maryjo are gonna wanna return the favor. I'm sure as hell am not saying it's gonna be a bad thing, this could be a rather fun and interesting time for us all! Joel's gonna wanna riff with Mike, and visa versa.

God has listened to a prayer. And that's odd for the big guy.

1) I wish some toy company would put out figures of Tom and Crow.
2) I did find that watching too much MST3K resulted in a condition where I could not watch a movie without mocking it. (I got pretty good at it for a while there)

Banacek: I'm guessing Joel and Mike must not get along. They should have asked him about RiffTrax.

Actually, from what I can tell they just don't hang around in the same circles more than anything -- which is what happens with people you worked with 15 years ago. Mike asked Joel to do a Rifftrax movie and he politely declined -- Joel was scheduled to launch CT that day.

They've asked them about Rifftrax in the past and they've (Joel, Josh, Frank at least) have pretty much said good for them, and best of luck. Mike's said he's happy for the other guys as well, but they see it more as a friendly rivalry than anything.

Still, it would be fun to see some interplay after CT gets settled.

I'll admit it: I actually prefer Mike over Joel. That being said, Mike's doing MST3k without Intellectual Property [IP] rights. Joel's doing MST#K without IP.

I remember watching Turkey Day marathons back when I was in middle school and high school. Ultimately I think Mike barely edges out Joel in the delivery category, but I still prefer the older episodes because of TV's Frank and Dr. Forester.

/Pearl and her friends were just too irritating and weird.
//Not that it matters too much since the skits were usually horrible

GOD I wish Jim Mellon would just give MST3K to Joel or Mike so we can see the bots again. Its a shame that hes being a money grubbing jerkweed so we will never see it.
Loves Mike and Joel.
