That's what you get when you rebroadcast with only implied verbal consent, instead of express written.

They should use the old Negro League logos instead as a big F.U. to MLB.

Well. That's a pisser of a typo. It doesn't take a whiz to see this error is #1 in my book.

I think the basis of their copyright infringment might be the team font's. I am pretty sure you can copyright a font(?)

Otherwise, I don't think MLB would have a case just based on "its a baseball shirt with the same colors"

2008-03-18 04:36:52 PM
Wow, it sounds like the MLB is taking lessons from the RIAA.

I'm not sure about that but, the stylization of the White Sox, Dodgers and Athletics is pretty obvious.

Simple trademark infringement. I can't set up a "McDowell's" restaurant and use the golden arches symbol of McDonald's.

Although he

All Obama needs now is a 'Parental advisory' sticker and he should be good to go!

2008-03-18 05:21:50 PM
Only reason why MLB wanna remove this is because they don't want people to know that their 90$ sport shirts can be made as easily for 19.99$

/Just came back from Tokyo
//Still laughing at the money grab the MLB is trying to do over there, representing pre-pre season baseball as being fun to watch and all.

And somewhere, somehow, Jackie Robinson weeps.

2008-03-18 05:24:03 PM
Yeah, those are clearly infringing on the very distinctive team logos of the MLB. If you've never watched baseball, just take my word for it. Or look up the L.A. Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics. You'd feel the same if they were your nationally recognized symbols.

MLB protects its trademarks!!! OMG!!!

Actually, a couple of those designs seem fairly legal, but not the Dodgers or Sox ones. He should have expected the letter.

That Padres one uses the font from their 1980s squad anyway...that's pretty retarded that he got shut down over that.

I would have bought one if I had known about it...

Wonder if he's got 'em up on ebay yet...

Damn it. My best friend, lifelong Dodgers fan, got the Dodger shirt about a week ago.

I was going to buy the Giants one and we were going to go to the first Dodgers-Giants game this season with those shirts. Lame.

Now some douche on eBay is going to sell them for like $75/shirt.

The problem you ran into, is you need to use a golden arcs symbol instead of arches.

steelpeg: Wow, it sounds like the MLB is taking lessons from the RIAA.

Because the RIAA invented the concept of defending intellectual property, right? No business had ever thought of protecting their trademarks or their brands from unauthorized use until the RIAA showed them how to do it.

This isn't a parody website poking fun at someone, it's a commercial venture that is generating revenue from the sale of merchandise that's clearly designed to mimic well known trademarks.

Selig sucks.

Malbar: Because the RIAA invented the concept of defending intellectual property, right?

The RIAA is a trade organization, not a copyright owning entity. The RIAA isn't a business even.

it's a commercial venture that is generating revenue from the sale of merchandise that's clearly designed to mimic well known trademarks.

by itself, that can fall under parody protections

The Dodgers and White Sox ones are legit complaints from MLB, but the other are perfectly legal.

You know why shiat like this goes on? Because when the little guy is in the right, he doesn't have enough money to take on the big boys.
