mooseyfate: A$$man: No physical abuse took place. Cop was fired.
Only a biotch would want to sue.

Says the guy that didn't have his rights violated by a confrontational cop, and then got harrassed by said cop's "buddies" after the incident. I'm sorry, but as a law abiding citizen, you shouldn't have to live in fear of retaliation from the goddamn police. If a lawsuit is the only thing that's going to make the people up stairs get their dogs on a leash, then I say go for it.

n every profession, there are assholes.

The problem is, a cop's job really has a lot of power with it, and lots of public view.

A guy spititng in random food orders ata fast food poace is an ass, but barring disease, he's not doing much social harm. A cop acting out, can do a lot of harm to a person. Despite a terribly difficult job and stress that make a lot of people crack, we have to hold them to higher standards. This may seem unfair, this expectation of perfection, but thats the standard.

Respect the police as best as possible, but expect the best of them as well, and take them to task when they fail that standard. Thats what they signed up for.

Many people who do racing such as SCCA, NASA, and Drag often mount a camera in their car to record runs. They can then go back and analyze how the run went and how to improve etc.

I have seen a dozen different mounting bars and methods, some are as simple as a tripod strapped down with seat belts, others are mounting structures tied to the frame of the car.

Again I will state that I LIVE in St George (I am about 100 yards from the commuter lot where this happened) and can attest to the fact that the cops are pricks. They are inside St Louis County yet insist on having their own police force of 3-4 cars and a bunch of rent-a-cops with severe inferiority complexes.

Also keep in mind that the Mayor of St George was recently arrested for Child porn and then busted for drugs during the raid.

2008-03-18 12:36:36 PM
Some background: The commuter lot where this happened is actually outside of St. George's venue. A short time after this incident, the mayor was arrested for exchanging child porn online and when they searched his home they found pot.

Story here

I lived in this city for about a year and lived near it for about ten years. It is the worst speed trap in St. Louis and the treatment he gave this kid is not unusual, based on my experiences with them.

What I found funny is the "The video is uploading to a secure system" comment the kid makes during the stop and the dumbass cop believes him.

h to the 'ojo: yeah yeah yeah

Cop haters are so predictable

Rodney King was 16 years ago. In one city. Involving a hoodlum and few cops who tried to take the protection of the community beyond what is legal.

The next time you're in a hostage situation, I'll bet you are pissing your pants with happiness when the cops risk their lives to save your worthless ass

Why is this a popular defense for law enforcement officers that do wrong?

The possibility that someone might protect me from a bigger threat neither implies nor condones that I would accept being treated wrongly by said person.

2008-03-18 12:49:02 PM
Take a stand to have the cop fired.. which he did, and the cop was.

Why ask for "Damages" when the issue.. to this date, has been resolved.

I bet this kid is going to be a lawyer, and make mad cash suing some
old lady for smelling like... well..old people.

2008-03-18 12:49:33 PM
I beat a cop in court on a speeding ticket. My punishment, I got 6 more by the end of the month. If they saw my car pull out of campus they pulled me over. When I asked the officer if that is what there were going to do, he laughed and said, "pretty much" I wish I had a cam or recorder when that happened. I eventually got all of them dropped by the judge. I should have gone after them for the retaliation.

This guy clearly did nothing wrong, you can see his turn signals etc. There was nothing "suspicious" about him.

I'm thinking of putting in a video cam to show the cops here flying at excess of 80mph with out lights on. I almost got hit by one last month. No headlights at 11pm no bubblegums and doing at least 80 in a 60....going to a call. nope, just going to the station for the end of his shift.

2008-03-18 12:55:27 PM
I see where this guy is coming from - every time I get pulled over I get bombarded with questions about whether or not there are drugs in my car. This is how it's been the last 3 times I've been pulled over:

Cop: "So where you heading?"

Me: "the grocery store"

Cop: "What, you have the munchies?"

Me: "No, I'm going to get food"

Cop: "Oh, you're going to get drugs?"

Me: "No, I said food"

Cop: "Oh you have the munchies?"

Me: "No, I eat to survive sometimes"

Cop: "Oh you want to be a smart ass, can I search your car?"

Me: "Sure, I keep my drugs at home asshat"

Cop: *searches car for 20 minutes, comes back*

Cop: "i didn't find anything"

2008-03-18 01:01:27 PM
fyi

the kid said elsewhere that he'd get pulled over several times a week and accused of DUI and then abused throught the process. Apparently, they sit outside the train and get the people getting off from the train to drive, since its very common to go to th ebar in the city than travel to the burbs by train..

2008-03-18 01:08:26 PM
BTW, officers, pieces of dog crap like this clown is the reason law-abiding citizens would just as soon spit in your faces as look at you.

Only you can change this.

If you're an actual officer of the law, it's your duty.

2008-03-18 01:08:52 PM
So, because you can't figure out why this dude gets pulled over all the time, and why he has a camera in his car, you figure he must be a cop-baiting asshole. Oh sure, they were both acting like assholes, you say. How generous of you to toss him a bone without knowing the whole situation. This story's already been covered on FARK a couple of months ago.

That "little trouble with a cop" incident that he refers to on the tape? Yeah, that was him being assaulted by a drunken off-duty St. Louis police officer. He got a very large settlement from the city and has been harrassed by the local police ever since then. That's why he's got a videocamera in his car.

The knee-jerk cop defenders just don't seem to get it. Cops are never wrong. If they do something wrong to you, even if you're somehow able to prove it - it doesn't matter. You're farked. They will harass you, threaten you, bully you every chance they get, because you're FARKING LITTLE PEOPLE and they're gonna show you what it means to fark with the police. This guy found online police forums where posters (ostensibly police officers) where threatening his life, although the panel that awarded him the settlement chose not to believe them. Just go look at copswritingcops.com and see how they react when they're not allowed to be above the law. If they break down your door and threaten your family because their warrant had the wrong address on it, not only will they not apologize, they'll make you sign a release saying you won't sue them before they will leave.

They're just like politicians, except they get to use violence.

2008-03-18 01:09:20 PM
The suit says that Kuehnlein had Darrow step out of the car, pinned him against Darrow's car, then got in Darrow's face and shouted, "You wanna try me tonight? You think you've had a bad night? I will ruin your (expletive) night."

Darrow said no. Kuehnlein then suggests he could make up reasons to detain or arrest Darrow, the suit says. "Do you want to go to jail for some (expletive) reason I come up with?"

Actually, if he got that on tape, he's sitting pretty.

/Record cops early. Record cops often.

MagFura2: If they break down your door and threaten your family because their warrant had the wrong address on it, not only will they not apologize, they'll make you sign a release saying you won't sue them before they will leave.

Bad move, all it would take is a nice plant and you would do time. If they ask they don't have cause, say no. They likely won't take it further.

That is crazy the cop got fired in this story. Man you really have to fark up to get fired. I mean look at all the stories on here where the cop gets a paid vacation for something illegal.

No. The part you didn't read is the part about why he is suing them. Originally, he was done when the cop got fired - but the cop's buddies on the force have continued to harrass him subsequently - that's what the suit is about. Just a technical point - argue whichever side of the issue you please, but try to stick to the facts.

the amount of stupid in this thread is overwhelming. anyone siding with the cop clearly hasn't seen the video. whether he was baiting him or not is irrelevant and disproportional to the way the cop responded.

I like having cop acquaintances. I like hunting with them. I like going on ride-alongs with them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being known as a "certified good guy" in case the SHTF and I need the benefit of the doubt from one. Same goes for judges and U.S. Senators.

Every police office is corrupt, they all have quotas to meet and they all hassle people to make those quotas. They all make up charges. They could be spending their time actually fighting crime, but none of them do. They would rather hassle people in parking lots, or show up to work drunk, drive around in their cruizers drunk, and then pull over other people and arrest them for being drunk.

Gonna have to concur here. I've got a buddy that lives over there, and I make it a point to go the long way around that area if I'm ever down there at night. The treatment that guy received isn't much different than treatment you can get from the 70+ different precincts in St. Louis City and county.

I think you are painting with an overly broad brush. I am pushing sixty now, and was a little wild when I was young, and have had dozens of contacts with the police - and I can only remember meeting three who I would put in a class with the officer in this incident. The vast majority that I have met have been pretty much ordinary schlubs like me, trying to earn a living. And I have also met a couple who occupy the opposite end of the spectrum from that crumb-bum. Leave us not generalize too much.

Why not? I'm trying to have a civil conversation here. We disagree about the legitimacy of this guys lawsuit, but if we were sitting across from each other in a bar, I'd be arguing my point the same way - not telling you to go suck a cop's dick or some crap like that. Who needs that shiat?

FZ6: These people aren't "fellating" the cops. Bottom line is that this guy is a prick. He said it himself that he would go about quoting his rights.

That doesn't make you a prick. Here's your version of the world:

Cop: "We're stopping you for no reason."
Guy: "You can't do that."
You: "Hey guy, you're a prick."

Coming from New Orleans, I used to hear people all the time scream about - "That's crap! I got pulled over AGAIN because of tail-light covers. Don't cops have anything better to do than harass me?!" Well, stupid, you KNOW it's illegal, yet continue to do it anyway. And that's their job - to stop people from doing illegal things.

So, wait, here's your updated version of the world:

Guy rides without taillight covers and knows its illegal, has no right to biatch about repercussions from cops.

Cop pulls over people for no reason and searches them illegally knowing full well it's illegal, has every right to biatch about repercussions from citizens, and the citizens who make the complaint are pricks?

Yeah, that actually is cop fellation, guy. I'd love to see you defend what I've just illustrated as blatantly hypocritical.
