Oh noes!!!111!!! Not that! Quoting his rights?!? He should be locked up like the terrorist that he is for that crime.

As pointed out in the comments section of the video, the commuter lot is open 24/7. The cop on the video claimed that it closed at "dark". Even if the kid was less confrontational and complied with the officer, he would not be able to wait for his friend, because the cop would have made him leave, which infringes upon his rights to be in a public location.

The video tape would prove the cops' douchebaggery whether the kid completely sucked up, or if he acted as the way things unfolded. In all honesty, the kid treated the cop like the cop was a random asshole, instead of an "authority figure". It didn't sound to me like the kid was being overly obnoxious - he just wanted to know why he was being questioned/stopped.

danlpoon: Cops are divorced from reality. They live in a vaccuum. They send their kids to the Cop Daycare and their wives and kids only socialize with other cop families. Cops are only friends with other cops. They only attend cop events. The Fraternal Order of Police Myopia.

From this self-inflicted isolation Cops are less human that we are. They experience fewer of the real-life scenarios that create wisdom and foresight.

Real citizens purposely avoid cops and cop families because real citizens realize a person can't be a 'cop" and be a normal human. The two are exclusive of one another.

Kinda like the scientologists?

Your right. That was uncalled for.

A friend of the family dated a police officer for awhile, when the relationship ended, he got a ticket or two a day for almost 15 days in a row, until he switched cars with a friend. He challenged them all and won, but it was pretty fubared, plus there is nothing wrong with knowing your rights, it may be a "asshole" thing to do, but it's better to be a smart asshole than a stupid farker. :D I have heard people say over and over and I tend to agree with them, cops hate it when people know their rights.

FZ6: jso2897: FZ6: Cerebral Ballsy: Wow, buncha cop fellators at thread top. Hope you guys are firends with everyone on the force, since you seem to be cool witht hem "inventing reasons to arrest" people.

Nice attempt, but you only get a 7/10.

These people aren't "fellating" the cops. Bottom line is that this guy is a prick. He said it himself that he would go about quoting his rights. No need to be obnoxious and stupid. As was said multiple times in this thread - the few times I have been pulled over was because I was doing something wrong (speeding). Other than that, I've been stopped at 3 checkpoints. I drove two different sports cars - one with a removable roof (Supra) and the other that had VERY dark tint (3000 GT) and NEVER got pulled over "just because". For people like you who think that cops are just a bunch of jackasses, maybe you could just try not breaking the law.

Coming from New Orleans, I used to hear people all the time scream about - "That's crap! I got pulled over AGAIN because of tail-light covers. Don't cops have anything better to do than harass me?!" Well, stupid, you KNOW it's illegal, yet continue to do it anyway. And that's their job - to stop people from doing illegal things.

So you have no problem with a police officer threatening to manufacture false charges against a citizen, as long as you can define that citizen, to your own satisfaction, as a "prick"?
ooooookay.......

Again, because apparently people aren't reading what I'm typing, not one time in my post do I say that it's okay for a cop to fabricate charges. You have absolutely NO idea how much it burns me when I hear about "bad cops" doing "bad things". My point was that if you aren't out looking for trouble, it probably won't find out. Just like someone else here made the comment that usually people with a camera can find what they're looking for.

The moral of my story was that people in this thread aren't getting mad at -that- cop for "fabricating charges". Too many were making general comments basically about cops being pricks and doing whatever they want. That part is not true as a whole.

If I misunderstood you, it is because you used the following sentence: "Bottom line is that this guy is a prick."
No. That's not the bottom line. That's an excuse. The bottom line here is that a public servant violated the rights of a citizen, and threatened to frame him, basically for being a jerk. The fact that the guy is a jerk does not concern me - the behavior of a public servant does.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your post.

2008-03-18 11:38:26 AM
The general makeup of police forces are..

80% Farvas, raging tiny penis jerkwads trying to prove something with a hard on for authority situations and a deep desire to bully people
20% Rabbit, Thorny, and Mac. good cops with a sense of humor and an honest desire to do good.

yeah I made a super troopers reference.

2008-03-18 11:39:16 AM
FZ6: I never said it was right to threaten him with false charges. If you read the rest of my post, you would see my point. My point is (again) that if you are respectful with officers, they will respect you.

No, no they won't. They DONT.

And, threatening with false charges makes the cop wrong, and a criminal. End of farking discussion.

Go suck a cop's dick or something. It's wasted effort to just post about it here.

2008-03-18 11:39:31 AM
next time I'm in a hostage situation, I'll be sure to be ever so thankful of the inevitability of the media's coverage of the developing situation, without which the cops wouldn't be forced to act. no authority figure should be fellated for following the book. in this situation, Cop bad and kid good. who cares if the kid was "asking for it"? if a law enforcement officer is unable to discern the real potential for danger from the real potential to abuse his authority, then he shouldn't be allowed to cower behind his badge.

2008-03-18 11:40:00 AM
Americans fear the public authorities because they WANT us to. Until STOPPED BY THE POLICE FOR QUESTIONING means the same as STOPPED BY A PASSER-BY FOR DIRECTIONS we will always be in fear of them.

This.

You are completely at the mercy of the cop having a good or bad day, which is typically based off the amount of people they have talked to before yourself. If you are their first stop of the day and they are morning people, I bet they'd let someone off with a verbal warning more times than not.

Law helps for some things, but damn is it a waste on so many more.

Unshavenhelga: logruszed: being in a position to potentially be arrested twice means you're probably at least some sort of douchebag or asshole.

Nice. I was a problem in college. Both time were for illegal trespass--one in a graveyard, the other in a railyard. Both were related to fraternity crap. I freely admit that I should have been in neither place.

Such is life, you little troll.

Ok, so it's douchebag. Got it.

/it's not really trolling if it's a genuine observation.

2008-03-18 11:45:51 AM
ThatGuyGreg: treating a cop like less than a person to his face doesn't make you any friends.

And cops spitting on our constitutional laws and treating civilians with utter disrespect doesn't make them good cops. It places them beneath contempt. Threatening to manufacture charges is possibly the lowest thing a society could do to its people. I refer to Gulag Archipelago and the infamous 'Blue Hats' stories told within.

Philip J. Fry: This kid helped get a criminal with a badge and a gun off the street.

Fry FTW!

2008-03-18 11:46:08 AM
What do you expect when you offer crap for pay? You get people who want to carry a gun and act like a big man.

I don't work in law enforcement, nor do I want to. I'm sure I'd get fired within 6 months because the only tickets I'd write would be for going slow in the left lane and other general stupidity that pisses me off. I'd not write a speeding ticket for any less than 20 over. I'd not make the city any money.

That aside, for $30,000 or $40,000 I'd not put my life at risk. I don't need to carry a gun to make myself feel important.

I've said it before. Take all the police, fire half of them, and increase the salary to the other half. I'd rather have 10 well paid, well qualified officers, than 20 of these morons.

2008-03-18 11:46:09 AM
Has anyone ever tried to find out how many fired cops now work for das Office auf Homeland Security? We all know there ain't enough malls and bowling alleys to hire em all.

2008-03-18 11:46:15 AM
justoneznot: In case you haven't seen it, here's the video (new window) of the encounter.

Damn, what a farking prick that cop was!

I only had to watch about two minutes of that to make up my mind on the issue. The kid did nothing wrong and the cop was being a major asshole right off the bat.

WTF is wrong with you people that seem to think that quoting your farking RIGHTS is somehow baiting a cop???? IF you get pulled over for legit reasons, be nice and apologetic and you might get off, if you get farked with for no reason at all....by all means start quoting your farking Constitutionally guaranteed RIGHTS!

/everyone who is supporting the jack-ass cop in this particular case should DIAF, seriously.

2008-03-18 11:49:38 AM
while i have no problem treating police with respect (it's a tough job) i'm at the same time not going to beg them for my rights.
when dealing with police it's very very important that you know your rights both under the u.s. constitution, and your states statutes .
it's your responsibility, and in no way are the police other than the reading of miranda obligated to tell you when they are exceeding their authority and railroading you.
this link will give you an idea of how to protect your rights (new window)

2008-03-18 11:50:59 AM
My dad was a cop. /kick out of these replies, etc.

Basically there are two categories of police officers.

1. Professionals.
2. Assholes.

Professionals are the cops who are out there, just doing their job, using their personal judgement in each situation as they are trained to do. They don't let the power of their badge go to their heads. They are just average people trying to do the right thing.

The assholes are a breed unto their own. They don't use judgement or common sense, they just assume that because they have a gun and a badge, it makes them all-powerful. They believe that they are "above" the average joe, and see to it that they spread hate and dissention wherever they go.

Unfortunately, a lot of times, the assholes tend to be troublemakers. They are technically "doing their job" so you really can't fire them for being a supreme asshole. So, just like in the corporate world, the assholes get promoted. Why? Well if you can find a place where they won't have as much interaction with others, they won't cause everybody headaches. This is why assholes almost always seem to be in the "middle management" of any organization.

Ain't it sweet to hear a cop cry entrapment?

2008-03-18 11:54:03 AM
Unshavenhelga: If he's baiting them, and I don't know that he is, he's endangering others by drawing the cops away from the real danger.

Oh man that's hilarious. Like they want to be where the real danger is, but they get all caught up in messing with this guy. There's almost no way that isn't funny.

2008-03-18 11:55:03 AM
Unshavenhelga: Dude seriously WTF: Was he baiting them?

If he's baiting them, and I don't know that he is, he's endangering others by drawing the cops away from the real danger.

So full of fail I just don't know where to begin...

h to the 'ojo: yeah yeah yeah

Cop haters are so predictable

Rodney King was 16 years ago. In one city. Involving a hoodlum and few cops who tried to take the protection of the community beyond what is legal.

The next time you're in a hostage situation, I'll bet you are pissing your pants with happiness when the cops risk their lives to save your worthless ass

I'm more likely to be killed by a cop speeding.

2008-03-18 11:57:17 AM
Although Kuehnlein also claimed to be taping the encounter with his dash-mounted video camera, the tape has since been lost or destroyed.

Don't let this little fact bother you cop-fellaters.

2008-03-18 11:59:11 AM
Between personal experience of being a "young" driver, and that of my friends.....yeah, traffic cops mostly are jerks. Regular joe non-traffic guys are usually awesome.

My friend got yanked for "swerving" once, at 8am, on her way to work. The officer demanded to search her car, she said no (that she'd be late for work), and he then said he'd have to call the canine unit, which would take 30-45min to get there, which would DEFINITELY make her late. Totally illegal---stops can only be reasonable time to cite/investigate for the cause of the pull-over, unless the person's acting suspicious (which she wasn't). He was pissed when the search turned up nothing.

So the OTHER COP that arrives to back up the one that pulled me over and started harassing me will save my worthless ass? Get off their laps and grow a pair of your own.

2008-03-18 12:02:07 PM
If there are police harassing this guy, they are not much better than gangsters themselves. If they are too stupid to just leave alone a law abiding citizen they'll get what's coming. I hope he sues them in to the stone age.

That said, I'm gratefull when I see the Sheriff patroling my neighborhood - then again, I don't have a habit of breaking the law either.

He'd still be a raging asshole.
