I actually did submit this with a better headline. But after one of the mods had his head asplode from the awesomeness of it, they decided to use this one.

You should all be thankful you still have your heads, and therefore your eyes, to read this headline of the year candidate. SRSLY, good job subby.

You guys keep talking about the article. But has anyone noticed that the headline is rather good?

MUMBAI, India - A fire broke out Monday in a perfume factory in the western Indian city of Mumbai, killing five workers and injuring another 35, a hospital official said.

In the documentary film about the tragedy, at least one lengthy song-and-dance number will break out in the middle of the fire too.

/submission title still trancending all, of course

Hooray for awesome puns.

Btw, wasn't there a "dye in a fire" pun headline some time ago? Or was that just in my head?

Oh. Wow.

Subby, I've never been witness to someone in the transition from mere-human-being to pure-awesomeness before.

Thank you so much for allowing all us grovelling mortals to share that moment with you.

/I'll take it to my grave ;)

that was pretty damn funny.

2008-03-17 11:04:48 PM
laurie1212: I don't get it...

Just incase you're serious:

Prepare for all humor to be drained out of your veins from a systematic explaination of the joke. :)

"Eau De Tiolette", "Eau De Parfum" , besides being French. is a naming convention for perfumes and colognes that means a certain concentration of scent per unit of volume of water.

"Oh the Humanity" is the famous quote that the radio news man, Herb Morrison ( according to a quick googling) said with alot of emotion when watching the Hindenberg crash and burn live on the radio. ( youtube it if you want to see ) It is often parodied on the internet by various substitutions, the most popular being "Oh the Huge Manatee!" ( give it time, it will probably be posted soon )

Finally, "Eau De" sounds just like "Oh the"... you understand the rest.

In this case, we have one of the most brilliant humorus title I've seen in a long long while.
1. You have a pairing of a play on words that is strongly connected to the subject: perfume and the use of the phrase "Eau De"
2. You have reference to a famous historical quote.
3. Both the historical quote and the play on words directly refer to the same type of event: a tragedy and a fire.
4. The play on words also fittingly causes readers to recall the popular farkism at the same time.
5. profit!

The result brought tears of joy to this reader. :)

/deadpan is so hard to receive on the internet.. you never know if you are reading something from an Ivy Leaguer attempting wit, a convict in the prison library who dropped out of school in 5th grade, or a poor innocent soul who just wants to know. So I apologize if you are the witty Ivy Leaguer ;)

I don't think I've posted in at least a year.

This, however, is the best headline I've seen in the history of Fark.

Bravo.

2008-03-17 11:12:14 PM
Nobody remembers this headline from a couple of weeks ago, seriously? I must have imagined this headline being used before and not getting quite the "OMFGLOLZ HLotY next January!" response this seems to have gotten. To the original headline writer, take a bow.
