Dylan's an Idol fan, eh? Well, I suppose I can change the old "I don't really care for his music, but I respect him as an artist" to the much more succinct "Dylan sucks."

That'll save some time.

Simon would hate him anyway.

Yes, he is. He is my current frontrunner, but he will likely get elimated late while some of the more popish/cutsie people move on.

The article isn't very clear, it says he tried to sneak into a couple of tapings, does that mean he tried to sneak into the audience or on the set or what? It doesn't sound like he was trying to be a contestant or anything, I don't understand what the big deal is here.

When did Dylan find talent?

2008-03-13 01:27:48 PM

After last night, I have come to a conclusion which cannot be argued or disputed EVAR:

Jim Carrey is a f*cking whore.

The guy who sang Eleanor Rigby? That was surprisingly good.

Because he could write lyrics unlike most bands today.

Nice combover. He obviously watched a lot of Chris Daughtry's performances.

Too bad everything he touches turns to emo. Kid could ruin Miles Davis.

Interestingly Dylan didn't do well in his high school talent contest.

2008-03-13 01:39:25 PM
But can you blame Dylan? I mean, would you want to be spotted in the audience watching American Idol?

2008-03-13 01:39:39 PM
Caught maybe a minute and a half of that the night New Amsterdam premiered.

Paul had to be urged back into her seat by Simon while boisterously proclaiming her love for a performer. And pretty much fell the six inches into her chair.

In other words, it's Paula Abdul. I wouldn't take this too seriously.

I actually kind of felt for Simon. He had this sad sort of why me look on his face, playing nursemaid to Crazy.

If it was high school, I imagine it was judged by teachers. Those who can't, teach.

Paula was probably just high.

Hey it's that retarded cliche again. While it may be true in some cases, two of the smartest and most able people I've ever met taught Physics and English in high school. The guy who taught physics worked at NASA during the space race but decided teaching would be more spritually fulfilling for him.

The only talent I've seen is Carly Smithsons talent in making my shorts rise.

2008-03-13 01:53:01 PM
Come to think of it, maybe everyone in the audience is wearing a disguise...

/or maybe Paula's on something that causes anxiety and paranoia.
//okay, more likely she's on several somethings

Okay, Billy- you get a Gold Star.

Hey, congrats, your friends sound like good people. But my comment was actually meant to be more of a dig at talent judges than teachers, as in the majority of them have no talent and are therefore only qualified to give a thumbs up or down.

Especially on reality TV.

All he did was throw a bunch of crap at a wall and write down what stuck.

Wasn't "The Band" Dylan's brainchild? If that isn't considered talent I'm not sure what is.

Plus the week before he actually made "Hello" a song you might want to listen to more than once.

I think he'll be like Daugherty, might only finish 4-5th since the rockers can't outlast the young popish acts, but, should be able to have very good success as a rocker after he gets out of his 1-year AI shackles.

In essence, The Band was Dylan's "band." Then he moved on and they were just The Band.

And they farking rule(d).

Oh. Well. That's just a little bit over the line when it comes to defensiveness, wouldn't you say?

If you think Bob Dylan is a good writer, then you have no idea what good writing is. His lyrics amount to little more than either gibberish or pretentious narrative, depending on the song. Hippy assholes just cling to his crap because they're all phonies.

2008-03-13 08:32:02 PM
Sort of.
The Band were a band before they toured with Dylan. They were his backing band for 65-66 and recorded the basement tapes with him. Then they left and were there own thing again. The thing is, they left. Trains crossing paths, thats all. The Band were able to stand alone without Dylan which I think is pretty cool.

You're way off. Listen to Blood on the Tracks and get back to me.

I think Tom Waits is a better lyricist (or at least writes in a more literary voice), and I think Dylan's an asshole, but he's a very good lyricist.

Ronnie Hawkins' backup band became "The Band".

2008-03-15 02:01:44 AM
From Wiki (new window):

"The members of the Band first worked together as The Hawks, the backing band of rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins from 1959 until 1963; they were also known as Levon and the Hawks. (In about 1966, they released a single on Ware Records under the name the Canadian Squires). Afterwards, Bob Dylan recruited the group for his 1965-1966 world tour."
