Alabama

10,000 B.C.

I can see why they wouldn't like it.

/maybe they'd spend a billion dollars on opening day if the film was 4,000 B.C.

Damn. That's going to be a lot of restitution.

Here comes the hate.

Remember, this was in Huntsville. Huntsville, which is drastically unlike the rest of the state. We have NASA, for cryin' out loud.

I was visiting Huntsville in 1997. Went to a movie. Walked up to the back of a line outside the building. Some guy halfway up the queue motioned to my buddy and me to come up. He gave us cuts behind him. I turned and looked at the rest of the people behind him. All black.

He was enforcing a policy of no whites behind blacks in the line.

I thanked him and declined, returning to the back of the line. We almost got attacked.

They've all got masters degrees.

It's filled to the brim with engineers and physicists. You can't throw a rock in Huntsville or Madison without hitting one.

Screen material is very expensive. Get a HDTV projector, and the screen will be about 5 times the cost of the projector. I hope they sell rectangular remnants cheap.

Lived there from 1997 to 2004, never saw anything like that, whatsoever. Arab, yes, Huntsville, no. I suspect you are, to be polite, "confabulating".

Vandals weren't around until the 5th century (or was it the early 80s?).

(yeah I'm bored, so what)

How could you look at 10,000 BC and think to yourself "gee that looks really cool, interesting, and factual". It's nonsense. Cavemen did not build pyramids. They mashed eons of evolution together into a shiatty film. I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

Why? It's a beautiful area, there's a ton of stuff going on there if you're into military and aerospace projects, the crime rate is low, the cost of living is moderate.

I should add, some of the projects going on there are quite interesting if you've got the proper clearances. It's like a mini-Area 51.

Huntsville is one of the leading cities for aerospace and defence.
Its a bubble of civilization in an assbackwards state. I think we were on russia's top 10 nuke list back in the day.

Now...travel 20 miles out of town and you might be "squealin' like a pig"..

In my experience I've learned that Rednecks are universal and not exclusive to Alabama. (And we always have Mississippi and Arkansas to look down on)

I chose to move back to Huntsville after stints in Tampa, Houston, and Seattle. There are many underappreciated mid-size towns out there (Spokane, Greenville SC, etc.) that fly under the radar.

I think you're full of shiat. But hey, if it makes you fill special making up stories to show how superior you are over others, then more power to you. Now time to go upstairs, your mother is calling you to dinner.

I've lived in Alabama my whole life. In four different cities. I currently live just outside Huntsville. You, sir, are full of shiat.

It's already been said by others but I'll reiterate it. "xebeche_tzu", your little story is full of shiat.

The last time I was in Huntsville the only people they pushed to the back of the line were the ones that made shiat up on Fark about Huntsville.

Are you sure you weren't just projecting your own prejudices onto an otherwise kind gesture?

i believed xebeche_tzu at first, but a bunch of people said his story was BS, so i'm gonna get on the winning team here and call BS. now, if some more people come in and back up his story, i may have to switch stances again.

I live in Minnesota. Outside Minneapolis/Saint Paul, it's one of the whitest places around, and I'm not talking about the snow.

I went into a Wal-Mart after work one night to get a few things, and the ladies working moved all the hispanic people to the front of the line when it was busy.

Just saying, his story's entirely possible... just not necessarily a reflection on the area it happened in.

I cannot prove that this happened, so the point is sort of moot, but I feel compelled at being called a liar. I was a kid, 19 y/o. I was in mobile for one reason only. A friend of my mom's. She was married to a Marine colonel (soon to be a general). The woman had three daughters, the oldest of whom I was supposed to hook up with. One little problem: I was obsessed with mom. I had been since 15. Now I was a man (technically) and I had money, so I went to Mobile to seek her out. I won't use names to validate my story (tempting), but damn. Have you ever seen an athletic, brilliant, exotic looking 50 y/o mother of three? I was a determined young man. I won't tell you how it went with her. I will tell you that it was Mobile, it was 1996-7, and the movie line thing did happen. Believe it or not.
