I'm surprised they didn't taser someone for not falling for their tricks.

You win this time, Beer Baron. But we'll be back.

Ummm, go Dayton?

2008-03-12 04:24:30 PM
He also gave the young man just enough money to buy a single bottle or can of beer.

That isnt suspicious. Everyone knows 19 and 20 year old kids only drink one beer a night.

2008-03-12 04:25:08 PM
don't they have anything better to do with taxpayer money?

FTFA: The law requires that all package sale stores must identify all beer purchasers, regardless of how old they appear or whether they are familiar to the store clerk.

Police enforcing the blind obeying of dumb rules. These aren't public school teachers, store clerks have the intelligence to use discretion.

Stupid.

I'm shocked that there are only 15 places to buy beer in Dayton.

Just think of what might happen if a 19 or 20 year old got a hold of a can or bottle of beer!

All I can say is.... Dayton police dept, MONEY WELL SPENT!

Hey, you've got to spend money to make money. The fees collected from small liquor stores will more than cover the cost of the beer.

amazing_live_seamonkeys:

Im 22 and still get carded for cigarettes from people who have been selling them to me since i was 18. I went into my liquor store once and never got carded again. I all depends on the owners if they make a big deal or now.

He also gave the young man just enough money to buy a single bottle or can of beer.

"Pardon me, kind sir. I would like to partake in the consumption of an alcoholic beverage of some sort. What's that? No, it's just me, on my own. Certainly no one watching. Back to the task at hand. Might I be able to buy exactly one alcoholic beverage in this establishment? Yes, you heard me. Exactly one. Suspicious? How is that suspicious? I'm just a young man set on enjoying my day! I'm certainly not a hooligan looking to achieve a level of inebriation that might result in *gasp* illicit activity! Now, if you please, direct me towards your alcoholic beverages. I would like to purchase one."

I was busted in a Beer sting when I was 19. Good times. The BATF guy was in an POS Aries K-Car with no AC staking out a Publix at midnight. Alone. I told him he needed career counseling.

Sort of like my high school when they had drug dogs, it was the 3rd Thursday of the semester.

Apparently the cops didnt ever notice that one, but the students sure did.

2008-03-12 04:31:00 PM
On Friday afternoon Investigator Darrell Bell drove a 20-year-old male

There is just so much fail contained within the drinking laws. This 20-year old will be tried as an adult for whatever crime he commits. He can enter legally binding contracts. The guy can even go to war, maim and kill people, yet he can't buy beer.

It's frustrating that the policy just doesn't make sense. 18-20 year olds are adults. How is it possible that in America an adult...fark it, never mind, I already know the answer.

2008-03-12 04:31:06 PM
Of course, the actual consumption of alcohol by individuals aged 19-20 remains unchanged.

/That's some fime policework there Lou.

I'm surprised they didn't send it a ten year old to try to buy beer.

If you want to cut down on underage drinking, lower the legal age to 18.

Client No. 9: If you want to cut down on underage drinking, lower the legal age to 18.

These stings have to do with those that sell to underagers.

The people that sell to underagers are not doing so to protest an unjust law, they are doing it to make money.

I was wondering how there were only 15 places to buy beer in Dayton.

Don't worry. I figured it out. It's a different Dayton. Makes it a much less impressive feat. The story, I mean.

2008-03-12 04:35:24 PM
I never get carded anymore.

I only go to two liquor stores at least five times a week. During the weekend I go several times in a day.

They know me and I know them on a first name basis.

which, of course, looks entirely different than 21.

LOL. I love it when Farkers try to give themselves under-handed compliments and they act as if they're just making a statement.

TFA: A law that went into effect July 1, 2007, probably has a lot to do with that. The law requires that all package sale stores must identify all beer purchasers, regardless of how old they appear or whether they are familiar to the store clerk.

Ok, as a former bartender/server who regularly sold alcohol to people of all ages, there is a simple rule to follow: when in doubt, card the patron. If they are underage, they will either: A) produce a recognizably fake ID, and you can refuse service; B) tell you that they don't have an ID and you can refuse service, or C)if their birthday is close to the purchase date, pull their ID and hope you only look at the year, at which point you are taught to look at the month and date is well if it is close, and you can refuse service. At any rate, it is always up to the discretion of the seller to either call in a manager or another employee to verify your carding of the patron, or refuse service based on a judgment call. And if the patron is of age, they usually feel better because you think that they are younger than they actually are.

/Never had a fake ID
//Never had to have one because I either had someone who could buy it for me, found places that would sell it to me, or carried myself well enough to pull off the buy
///Came in very handy later when I would have patrons trying to do the same thing I did
////Enough slashies for ya???
