Muslims are a minority in Buddhist-dominated Thailand, which faces a bloody Islamic insurgency in its southernmost provinces.

Wait, what? Are they attacking Buddhists now? Just so I got my religions right, Buddhists are the peace loving folks who think any kind of violence is wrong and their goal is to attain total consciousness, right?

Awesome. An article specifically talking about Muslims peacefully practicing their right to voice their opinions can be used by our resident population of provincial idiots to further relish in their deliberate ignorance.

Exactly what part of "free press" do they not understand?

Given that they're specifically protesting the fact that other people have that right:

"The group {snip} criticized Denmark's government for failing to stop the cartoon's publication"

I'd say our "resident population of provincial idiots" are probably right on the ball.

They're doing it right. Someone does something they don't like, and they're gathering and voicing that opinion together.

I don't agree with their position, but they're not stupid for gathering in public.

Their opinion happens to be that governments should actively censor material that's offensive to their religion. Mocking this is neither ignorant nor provincial.

It's been tit-for-tat for ages now. The southern tip of Thailand borders onto Malaysia, where Muslims have much influence. Hundreds of Muslim insurgents and Thais have been killed, including innocents caught in the cross-fire. The Thais have a military presence there, not surprisingly.

Tourists are warned not to go there on their travels. It's such a shame as I think Thailand is one of the most wonderous places to visit.

Always the farking Muslims. Asshats.

Muslims are a little less than 5% of the population of Thailand. The rest are predominately Buddhist. There's been Muslim/Buddhist violence in the southern part of what is now called Thailand for centuries. The current spate of trouble started about 2001.

Oh, and the Buddhist Thais can be meaner than snakes when they get pissed off. For a while, some experts on the region were concerned that the Buddhists might do something... uhm, permanent to the Thai Muslims. You still hear worries about that possibility mentioned every now and then.

I actually saw it as a peaceful demonstration (good) by people offended by the actions of a business (fine) and the inaction of a government (losing me). However, they bring it all back by saying "vote with your wallets against this group." I'll take that method, as opposed to death threats, bombings, and riots ANY DAY.

Doesn't matter. You drawing a picture might lead others into idolatry, regardless of your original intentions. Accordingly, national governments should suppress any such work. Apparently.

And still is. Just avoid the deep south, especially the smaller villages. On a funny note, its also the same advice I give to people visiting the US for the first time.

Peaceful protest in appropriate circumstances. No problem. Give credit where credit is due.

There's enough Muslim idiocy in the world without having to exaggerate.

In fact, I think people should give more priority to listening to the groups grievances as long as they are taking the civilized path.

That doesn't help anyway, look at the pictures of Jesus. If you think about it, Judas should not have needed to point out Jesus. How many freaking white dudes were running around in the Middle East at the time?

In theory. But don't believe that Buddhism is some magical religion that is free from the same problems that plague all religions.

Of course. I'm not suggesting they've done anything wrong, at all...I just find their idea that Western nations should censor non-Muslims on behalf of Muslims ludicrous.

Just because you have a basic right to print crude racist cartoons doesn't mean that the racists who publish crude racist cartoon deserve applause. Either condemn these crude racist cartoons just like you do anti-semitic cartoons, or STFU.
