The Intellivision version was better than the Atari version.
If you stayed in the ground for a while you changed color. I have no idea what that does otherwise, but it seemed really cool at the time.

KotOR rules the world.

KotOR 2, not so much.

KotOR 3, will it ever come out?

2008-03-08 12:29:38 PM
My god...I LOVED Shadows of the Empire. The Battle of Hoth stage is still, IMO, one of the best single stages in video game history.

Battlefront should have come with a catheter.

Dude, you could make millions if you could somehow provide a way to make a catheter out of empty mountain dew bottles.

I loved the old vector-graphics coin-op. If I had invested all of the quarters I spent on that game, I'd be rich now.

In no particular order: TIE Fighter, Republic Commando, and KOTOR I have to be my three favorites.

Dark Forces was also fantastic. The best FPS to really capture the feel of the Star Wars universe in my opinion.

very brief - anyone remember "rebel alliance" - that game was a ton of fun until you got to one impossible level where you had to pilot an a-wing through a series of mine tunnels. At that point it got ridiculous as, no matter how incredible you were at the earlier levels, this level could not be overcome.

KOTOR, about a decade later, is probably the most fun star wars game I've played front to back. Battlefield is alway fun for killing ewoks.

2008-03-08 01:13:48 PM
The left out the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade Game. It's a pretty awesome rail shooter. You even got to have lightsaber duels with Boba Fett and Darth Vader. I dropped a lot of quarters in that machine in High School.

It really is amazing that no matter which media we're discussing, Star Wars really does manage to both sink to horrendous lows and reach impressive heights.

/Loved TIE Fighter, JK:JO, Battlefront, KOTOR, KOTOR2.
//80% of the rest is forgettable.
///Return of the Jedi for the Sega Game Gear was an affront to human dignity. As was the Sega Game Gear.

I demand an update to the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games. Don't screw with the gameplay too much, just make it pretty and add new missions.

2008-03-08 01:27:15 PM
They glossed over a lot of the PC Star Wars installments. I remember wasting hours on my old DOS version of Rebel Assault.

No matter how hard I tried, I could never make it through the big cheerio at the end of the asteroid field without sustaining some kind of damage.

SW on Super Nintendo was awesome
X-Wing/Tie Fighter series sucked the life out of me
Dark Forces series, didn't really get out of my room except for school during those phases of my life, same with KOTOR
Shadows of the Empire *drool* :)
Rogue Squadron was months of fun
Battlefield series and Lego SW FTW!

/Where the hell is the Rebel Alliance series?
//Star Wars Arcade for Sega Genesis 32x

Oh dear God, did I say Rebel Alliance? ugh, meant Rebel Assault.

/Where did I put those games...

Does anyone remember the name of that SW fighting game for the Playstation? That game had the potential to be 31 flavors of awsome, and it turned out to be soul-crushingly bad. Worst fighting game I ever played.

/I think the name was SW: Masters or something like that

My favourites:

Lego Star Wars Original Triology
Lego Star Wars were the first games to feature the original crew since the NES/SNES versions.

The old Atari/C-64 Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back consisting of vectors/wireframes. Don't know how many months I've spent watching the loading-screen on my C-64, watching the cassette-player counting up until I knew it was ready.

TIE Fighter
I love me some TIE fighter goodness any day.

KOTOR was fair enough, but had some bugs. Beautiful plot-twist.

Mentat: I loved the old vector-graphics coin-op. If I had invested all of the quarters I spent on that game, I'd be rich now.

I admittedly didn't spend a fortune on that game, but it's probably my favorite of the all the SW games I've played. I was enjoying the Galaxies MMO until they took out a lot of what made the game interesting and turned it into WoW lite. Also a fan of the SNES games and the Lego ones. Yeah.

Also, Star Wars Rebellion not on the list? Shame!

It blew the root pretty bad gameplay-wise, but it was still a chance to command you own starfleet, pitting you Mon Calamari cruisers and Nebula frigates against Star Destroyers and Star Dreadnoughts. Not to mention having a Death Star, having nursed and nurtured a star system in order to get the facilities necessary to build one, only to discover that you didn't have enough Lancer frigates and TIE fighters to repel those damned X-wings that would blow up your Death Star leaving you infuriated and severely lacking in firepower.

Eventually, Nintendo is going to master the fine art of the one-to-one motion system for sword games. I have not played Red Steel (their launch title that was heralded as an opportunity to swing a sword with the Wiimote) but I heard that it kind of sucked.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess did not have a one-to-one sword system (ie, no matter how you swing, the character always performs the same canned motion, not taking into account the speed or direction of the wiimote) but this still turned out to be an absolutely phenomenal game.

However, with Star Wars, unlike Zelda, the sword theme is not all about cutting up bushes and monsters.....there are other sword wielders out there. In other words, there are DUELS, and those have the greatest potential to rock fanboy worlds.

The only current example of one-to-one sword motion that I've actually played on the Wii was a short Samurai minigame in the phenomenal "WarioWare: Smooth Moves." The minigame is very simple and the sword occasionally jumps to the wrong position (it is one of about 200 minigames and was not calibrated perfectly) but overall they get the idea right, and once Nintendo masters this, they will have the ultimate lightsaber-induced nerdgasm on their hands.

Yeah, I'm willing to pay up to $100 for a good completion to the KOTOR story arc. Cripes, I hope they make it soon.

Cameron_Talley: No Star Wars game will ever surpass the perfection that was TIE Fighter. Spent HOURS on that game as a kid...

This. KOTOR came VERY close, but TIE Fighter was perfection.

PERFECTION.

KOTOR was awesome because of how... movie-like the camera angles and the presentation was. It was very awesome how it was shown (and the twist was a neat touch too). Battles got really BORING later on in the game, but I had a blast playing it. Also, HK-47.

I wish KOTOR 2 got polished more and Lucasarts didn't crunch down on Obsidian to finish it. It would have been really cool, but the ending was ruined.

X-Wing Alliance and TIE Fighter. Two of my favorite games of all time.

/Want my own Otana.
//KOTOR kicked mucho ass as well.

Oh man. My friend took my version of the game and ended up constructing a death fleet of a Death Star and about 30 Lancer Frigates. Seriously overpowered. He could walk into a sector and take it over with simulating all the battles, and emerge with only a few scratches. Took some time bolstering his fleet again and then set off for the next one.

Well you can't talk about sucky Star Wars video games without talking about Star Wars Galaxies.

DRTFA, but man that game sucked. More amazing is that it just keeps on suckin'.

The top 5 Star Wars video game series:
1 KOTOR
2 Empire at War
3 Rouge Squadron
4 Tie Fighter/X wing
5 The Lego series

/My list

I'm probably in the minority here, but my brother and I always loved playing Rebel Assault and it's sequel as kids on our old-ass Macintosh Performa 460. That game was really impossible until we found out about Yoda's Power Mode, then we breezed through it (Plus button to reset health to perfect).

Of course, that spoiled me because a few years later I got Rogue Squadron and it beat the everliving shiat out of me. Still, it was fun to pilot an X-Wing with my joystick.

Of course I can't talk about Star Wars games without mentioning KOTOR, as so many people have already said, probably one of the best, if not THE best Star Wars game ever produced. I even thought the sequel was OK, even if it was a bit of a rushed mess.

All time best, though? Probably Battlefront 2, or Force Unleashed when it comes out. How can you play a game where you can torture Stormtroopers in retardedly fantastic ways with wacky box-grabbing physics and not think it's the greatest thing ever?

2008-03-08 03:35:44 PM
the original Jedi Knight > all other SW games

God I loved those FMV sequences.

KOTOR and KOTOR 2 were great, but filled with glitches. I didn't was unable to get through KOTOR 2 because the game kept glitching out. I gave up trying. KOTOR was bad about stupid glitches, but KOTOR 2 was bad enough for me to just stop playing.

2008-03-08 04:22:12 PM
Actually, KOTOR as a female Revan was more fun, because the plot twist is even more of a surprise. "Wait.. I'm... but... I thought Revan was a boy!"

It also immediately solves all the "Oh, yeah... obviously I'm a great Jedi, even though I've never used the Force before... obviously I'm having visions, obviously I've got a great mission... isn't this all just a little too easy?" feelings.

What a great game. I really hope KotOR 3 can somehow involve Revan, Carth, Bastila, the Exile, Bao Dur and all the rest.

Chariset: SilentStrider: good to see my boy Revan was mentioned.

The Exile in 2 though, thats a woman.

As a former coin-op video game technician . . .

Seriously, vector crt's require lots of tweeking.
There's an alignment called "convergance" that always seemed to slip.

That having been said, I did love Tempest.

I demand another flight-sim style X-wing game. and make the battles MMO for chrissake.

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter - the best of the best.
