crazytrpr: UnkleKrakker: crazytrpr: Been to Bogota, had a ball and the women are HOT. But alas my stay was too short ;o(

I know what you mean, Central America was the most dangerous place I was ever stationed, because the women were way too distracting and the culture was amazing. Would have retired in Panama if I'd stayed in.

Good times in Panama I hear (never been). I buddy of mine was down their recently, it's a bit more expensive now. Improving standards of living and all.

Bogota wasn't too bad were I was staying but I was well away from FARC country. And the women, god in heaven!!!! You never had to look back because there was another hottie up ahead

Yep, Colombia definitely has some of the hottest women in Central/South America. Moving back to Panama at the end of the month... But will cross through Colombia to get there. Unfortunately, Panama isn't one of the countries that has hot women...

But, I can tell you right now, there will be no war between Colombia and either Venezuela or Equador. Both countries know that Colombia has the best trained (by the U.S.) military in the area. And they outnumber them 3 to 1. Sure, Venezuela has some new toys, but it won't take very long before they're gone.

The problem is that Chavez is like a rabid chihuahua. It barks, you know it can't hurt you, but you look like the idiot when you drop kick it across the room. He will do his sabre rattling and such, but by closing the border, he is harming his own people. Venezuela imports an amazing amount of food from Colombia. He keeps this up much longer, and his own people will oust him...

This will fade very quickly...

Most of the girls in the pic are Colombianas... Yep, there are some beautiful women, but typically they aren't Panamanian. Not complaining though... My previous GF in Panama was Colombiana... Looking forward to another...

Yep... I know that, and I keep thinking, "What happened?"...

Unfortunately, I keep dating the ones that aren't citizens. And, right now, Panama seems to be having a little racism problem with Colombianos. Don't understand what they have against them, but, for some reason, the government just keeps wanting to deport them. They've actually changed the laws to be unfair to the Colombians... I wish they would get over it...

It's obviously a difference of interpretation. Things are different in Colombia depending on if you're the mostly-white descendents of Europeans, or the dark descendent of the natives. I think this whole cocaine thing is way overblown and overrated; leave it alone.

So yeah. It's like asking a white person on Wall St. vs a black person in Harlem about police brutality.

Hope can be usefull. But it depends on the hope you're selling? How is it going to be paid for and by whom? Who benifits and the expense of whom?

Chávez won't be very popular once their oil production drops and he can no longer artifically lower the price of oil in his country. The people will reject him the moment that happens. It is only a matter of time since he is not putting any money back into the oil infrastructure and instead using the little profits left in failed social programs, the system there will fail, it is only a matter of time.

You want to shut him down faster? then just stop refining his oil in america, done and done. Unless he can get that one tank to run on heavy crude oil.

don't worry it is not your fault that latin people can't spell Christopher Columbus properly.......

Jubeebee: Anyone know what Brasil's take on this is? Because with the US tied up in the Mid East, they're the regional heavyweight.

I've been following this story as reported by the Brazilian media, as they have more interest in this story considering they're not going through an over-covered election and they're in the region. Brazil has offered to mediate talks between Colombia and Ecuador, and there have been no official communications between Brazil and Venezuela because Venezuela has nothing to do with a Colombian incursion into Ecuadorian territory. Brazil's official position thus far is that Colombia should offer an unconditional apology for the incident, since the violation of a sovereign nation's territory is never acceptable, specifically in this case where Colombia acted without a prior request for the Ecuadorian government to arrest the FARC members.

As far as armed forces go, there is no indication that Brazil will mobilize troops along the Venezuelan/Colombian/Brazilian border. There are only about 20,000 troops in the entire Amazon region, but they're on alert should anything happen. 500 special ops could be moved from Goiânia to the tri-border area within eight hours, but this is not at all likely as no one expects actual confrontations between the Venezuelan and Colombian armies to take place. The whole thing is a populist move for Chávez to distract his people.

And if all Brazilians did was to dance and have sex, I probably would not have moved to the US, though I am glad that Brazilian foreign policy is respected as being very sound, unlike our domestic policy.

It's not a matter of interpretation. It's a matter of you not knowing a good goddamn thing about Colombia specifically. There is not a big racial divide in Colombia, since there are almost no indigenous people left.

I'm Columbian, so I'm really getting a kick out these replies.

I lived in Colombia for a year as a foreign exchange student. In a city fairly close to the Venezuelan border, actually. It is a really nice country and the people are extremely intelligent and light-hearted. It is not uncommon for most young people to go into some sort of engineering. And the women? Oh...My....Dios....

Never been to Venezuela, heard it WAS nice though. Everyone from there seems to be very cocky as do people from Argentina. Look what has happened to those two countries in recent years...

FTFA: (Ecuadoran president) Correa (said) "the region will be in danger, because the next victim could be Peru, it could be Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, any one of our countries."

That's a FAIL of presidential proportions there. Last time I checked a map Bolivia and Colombia didn't share a border.

He's just making noise to distract the fact that he and his Defense Minister were cought making friends with FARC.
