That really sucks...they put on a hell of a show back in the day.

Biafra offered to sign Conley and MIA to his Alternative Tentacles label that night. Biafra said Conley's distinctive voice was one of the factors that made the band stick out.

That's really saying something...when Biafra thinks your voice is distinctive.

Yeah well a lot of people would blow Jello just because he was a beacon of anti-authority in a time when that just wasn't cool. Lots of people did it. He certainly didn't innovate or bring anything new to the table musically.. shiat he didn't even get as far into politics as some bands at the time. I know he's all indie and whatever, but seriously why so much love?

Are any of these reasons why Biafra's voice shouldn't be considered unique or distinctive?

All DK songs are political, and farking genius for that matter. Go download "Bedtime for Democracy" if you have forgotten. Have you never listened to the huge amounts of spoken word diatribes that Jello has put out since DK? He's as political as he can be. These days he is more involved at a local level outside of the spoken word tours. Not to mention, that he is responsible for making thousands of punks think about social and political issues instead of getting high.

WHO?

Why is this front page instead of showbiz? Is there a moderator with a hard on for obscure old anti-authority bands?

I'm sure the 40 something pot smoking crowd is devastated.

Damn catchy tune. I like M.I.A. in that sense, she's not afraid to experiment with her work. Too bad she's gone all weird, she seemed to be more relaxed and personal a few years ago.

Marla Singer's Laundry: You fail

Actually sounds like Michael Conley failed.

Go on with your bad self. If fellating the memory of a middling punk band from the 80's makes you cool, then I guess I'm not cool.

I can deal with that. This band barely managed to put out four albums. We should fall all over ourselves because their lead singer died at 48? What's next? We mourn the passing of Carol Decker when she kicks the bucket?

2008-03-01 09:44:33 AM
No disrespect to this dude, but I don't know why this is big news. Perhaps it's not. Perhaps I get my "big news" from Fark.

Continuing my "no disrespect" line... RIP, whoever the heck you were.

Oh, so this is the thread where all the self-appointed, cynical, know-it-all, douchebag, hipster would-be critics are hiding in today. How's it going, guys?!

For every Farker who likes it, there's at least 100 Farkers who hate it, and three-quarters of them hate it only because other people like it.

2008-03-01 09:49:21 AM
Note: I don't like punk, but that's not because I feel a need to disparage other people's likes on the Internet to feel big, or to criticize something that's popular in order to feel hip.

Okay, I lied about that first part.

Not to be a dick or anything, but I think we should hire someone to show up at nashBridges funeral to go around telling people how it's not really a big deal because he never really did anything with his life, anyways.

Unright: Whatever you say, dude.

I'll live.

You know who won't? Michael Conley.

Gregory F. Stuart: How's it going, guys?!

Just fine, thank you for asking. I'm still puzzled why some people are treating this man's passing as a momentous event. I feel for his kids, but why is this main page "not news"? M.I.A. wasn't ever "big" nationally. If Keith Richards keels over tomorrow, I could see a thread like this. Maybe, MAYBE Bret Michaels would warrant a front page thread just as a shout out to the 80's.

Michael Conley? I just don't see the reasoning.

Getting a hole punched in your skull blunt-force outside of O'hare... tell me that doesn't sound like a "neighborhood loan" gone bad.

Mr. Gunn: Not to be a dick or anything, but I think we should hire someone to show up at nashBridges funeral to go around telling people how it's not really a big deal because he never really did anything with his life, anyways.

That's fine. I'm not disparaging the man's family life, and I certainly feel bad for his children. In my mind, that's the worst part of this story. I obviously could care less about his musical career but if he was a father of three then there are three kids today who are missing someone they love. That hurts.

What I am confused by is the overt love some farkers here are showering on the man. This wasn't a popular band. I suspect most posters arguing with me are posers.

2008-03-01 10:06:53 AM
Wow, two of his kids are so young...

2008-03-01 10:07:53 AM
It's sad when anyone dies, but they should have just kept this on the Showbiz page. Sorry, but it's just not "Not News" page material. Not saying that this didn't deserve a greenlight, but not to this page.

RIP Mr. Conley

Addendum: I've done plenty, but I certainly don't expect that my passing will warrant a front page post on Fark. I don't expect that your passing will, either.

The question at hand is whether or not Mike Conley warrants a thread.

The news I found said his injuries were consistent with a fall. That's what the police are saying, anyway.
