This goes to show that Americans are totally idiots. Leno is so banal and bland it makes me sick.

2008-02-27 09:33:28 AM
Sony Pictures Television has made an approach through intermediaries to let Mr. Leno and his representatives know that as soon as he is allowed to discuss his next move, the studio will make him a rich offer for a syndicated late-night show that would make him the highest-paid host in late-night television, put his name on a new theater on the Sony lot and give him a financial interest in Sony music artists who appear on his show.

I know there is cross-promotion and nepotism all over the place on network television, but that seems like a serious conflict of interest.

I have a feeling they are going to water down O'brien's show so much when he get's Leno's spot

SeaMonkey311: I have a feeling they are going to water down O'brien's show so much when he get's Leno's spot

They're going to have to do that for the earlier timeslot. Plus they'll have to market the show to a broader audience, which means dumber jokes, blander guests, and and more "grown up" humor.

We can only hope Conan finds a way to slip in enough "wink wink-nod nod" type jokes to let us know he's still with us

jimmy fallon is still alive?

Alive, yes... Sober ? Not so much.

baorao: but that seems like a serious conflict of interest.

Sony studio, Sony lot, Sony artists... hardly a conflict of interest - he just has to sell his soul, that's all.

Leno still has a soul?

I digress... this would be an interesting offer, although not being "affiliated" with a single network might not be appealing to Leno, although my guess would be in most markets the Fox station would attempt to pick him up (assuming they don't try a different person to do their own network late night show, and, after the Chevy Chase fiasco, I don't think they are interested in anyone who isn't established, so, it's probably Leno or bust at this point for Fox), so, it might be a defacto "Fox" network show in that way. Although, it isn't out of the question that some ABC stations might try to grab it as well and delay/not show Nightline and/or Kimmel.

I think ABC drops Nightline for moving up Kimmel (or Leno and moving back Kimmel) in 2-3 years.

Am I missing something? Why is Leno so popular? Does anyone remember Johnny Carson at all?

Carson. C-A-R-S-O-N. You know, back when the show was funny and charming?

Aww forget it.

2008-02-27 11:55:30 AM
Dig up Carson and put him back on air.

/Then get off my lawn, punk.

NBC is asking for it if they don't toss Leno. younger views hate Leno, love Conan. And Fallon is obviously a pitch to that same young viewers. I personally don't like him, but maybe he'll be funny.

Conan's humour is much more bizarre and rather off-the-cuff. Look at the stuff he did during the strike. It was hilarious. Perhaps this lends credence to his humour and I hope he continues with some of the random stuff he did, that was hilarious. As for Leno, I watched him during the strike and he just wasn't funny. He isn't even funny with writers. Well, he sort of it. As for Jimmy Fallon... I don't know. I only liked him with Tina Fey in Weekend Update. However I am curious if he will be more like Carson Daly.

I don't like him, and I know very very peers who do. They're hiring him because of his experience staring at the camera.

absoluteparanoia: Carson. C-A-R-S-O-N. You know, back when the show was funny and charming?

If I may interrupt your nostalgia for a second:
Johnny Carson was not funny.
He was just as bad, if not worse than, Jay Leno.

Procedural Texture: He was just as bad, if not worse than, Jay Leno.

I disagree.(^) Plus he's actually charming.

Leno is unfunny, nasally, and patronizing. So if you give Carson one strike, Leno gets three.

I have to agree with you there. He had the exact same type of humor that Leno has, maybe a little cleaner. But at least he had personality.

Leno is such a gigantic tool. Seriously... His chin can be used to mine for coal! He's about as funny as cancer, and as entertaining as a dead rock. I have not sat through a full episode of "Tonight Show" since Carson left.

Unfortunately, Tonight is probably going to suck all of the funny out of Conan as well. NBC needs to just pack it in and run old Bogart movies after the news.

I think it's more a matter of likable personalities, Leno reminds me of a car salesman you might meet in an airport bar, or something.

So Conan's going to wind up in Leno's wet spot? Ewwwww!

Bring back Fernwood Tonight.

but, is he Farking Ben Affleck?

2008-02-27 01:50:21 PM
Jimmy Fallon? Seriously?
He's like the herpes of NBC Late Night. When ever he shows up you're uncomfortable but other people find it inexplicably funny, then he disappears with Queen Latifah.
I got an idea. How about Late Night w/ Henry Earl...

Sym_pathetic: Jimmy Fallon? Seriously?

The newest college craze in a few years:

The "Late Night" drinking game... take a drink whenever Jimmy looks at the camera and cracks up.

Campus deaths from alcohol poisoning will go through the roof.

2008-02-27 02:06:39 PM
Jimmy Fallon... the guy who can't stay in character for more than 3 seconds in any SNL sketch. I still don't know how he stayed employed for so long. He's a hack.

2008-02-27 02:07:13 PM
Jimmy Fallon?

Fark Jimmy Fallon. Fark him right in his talentless face.
I'll never ever watch that show, ever... unless it's an episode that ends in his actual death.

I'm sorry, that's not fair to him... He's not *completely* talentless, since he made it on TV without any talent or brains he can apparently play the skin flute like a master, so he's got that going for him.

2008-02-27 02:12:40 PM
I came for the Jimmy Fallon bashing, and while there is some...it is not enough to sufficiently fill my need. I have always hated this "man."

For his first night as host, Conan should bring back the Masturbating Bear.

2008-02-27 02:19:37 PM
Jimmy Fallon? Jimmy farking Fallon? He ate cock like a starving porno actress on SNL and now hes going to be on TV 5 days a week? The Devil is real, my friends.

Jimmy Fallon? epic fail coming soon to a tv near you.

Is not looking forward to the "Masturbating Endangered Polar Bear".

I just hope that Conan... er... Mr. O'Brien rather... will be able to keep his quirkiness about him, as that is what I truly enjoy about his show...

Jimmy Fallon can choke on one for all I care... the man isn't fit to be UDA for Conan, much less fill his shoes...

I hope Jay Leno hosts the NBC Version of Top Gear that is in development. Leno, Tim Allen, and Tony Stewart talking cars would make for great TV.

Fallon?
Wow, a show that's comprised of the following two things (time split relatively equally):
1) Jimmy Fallon telling unfunny jokes
2) Jimmy Fallon laughing at the camera before/during/after telling unfunny jokes

There will be no interviews, skits, humor, or entertainment, just a douchebag standing and laughing at a camera, telling fart jokes.

2008-02-27 03:22:58 PM
I've never really wished death on anyone until I saw SNL with Jimmy Fallon.

2008-02-27 03:39:13 PM
You guys couldn't carry Jimmy Fallon's mic. Talentless hack Fallon is? Sure, he broke character often on SNL, but some of the funniest sketches became hilarious because of the actors bursting out into laughter throughout the sketch (E.g.- Cowbell and Debbie Downer in Disneyworld). All of you guys mention Jimmy Fallon's flaws yet don't mention anything of his skills writing and singing parodies with his guitar and his dead-on impersonations that he did on SNL (Adam Sandler, Jeff Goldblum, etc). So while he does have some flaws as a comedian, he's nowhere near the talentless hack that you pathetic farkers love to bemoan. Maybe if you weren't so depressed with your own lives, you'd be able to see that.

Yep, typical Farker's comeback. Claiming a person defending your whipping boy is a relative. I just try to call it as I see it, and unlike you people I give my opinions without a stick shoved 5 feet up my behind. Maybe you sad sacks should try it.

there's a reason no one has heard from jimmy fallon in five hears (other than that bomb of an abortion of a movie "fever pitch").

the reason is because he is a talentless, unfunny hack with two black holes where his eyes should be that stare, empty and soul-less, into the camera.

his show will be a horrific bomb that will make craig ferguson seem entertaining. and that ain't easy.

Cowbell was funny in spite of Jimmy Fallon. He had one line and almost brought the sketch to a screeching halt. "Hee hee hee. Quit bein' hee hee hee, quit bein' so selfish, Gene."

I hope Horatio Sanz is Fallon's sidekick. Eventually somebody will point out they're the only ones in the building who are laughing, and then kick their asses. My money's on a coked-up Keifer Sutherland, but I'd also like to see Harrison Ford do it.

2008-02-27 04:02:57 PM
I'd rather watch Fallon than Kimmel. Fallon's been funny at least two or three times, which is two or three more times than Kimmel.

Ever notice that Leno always gives 3 punch-lines to each joke set up?

/also he sucks.

Tom_Slick: I hope Jay Leno hosts the NBC Version of Top Gear that is in development. Leno, Tim Allen, and Tony Stewart talking cars would make for great TV.

This or something like this is probably the only way Leno stays with NBC. If there was a way for them to give him a deal where he gets to expand on how great his Jay's Garage Web videos are, it might pique his interest.

Boritom: Leno is such a gigantic tool. Seriously... His chin can be used to mine for coal! He's about as funny as cancer, and as entertaining as a dead rock. I have not sat through a full episode of "Tonight Show" since Carson left.

Unfortunately for you, sir, NBC doesn't and hasn't given a rats arse about you in relation o The Tonight Show. The show is obviously not aimed at you and since it remains the highest-rated on late night, NBC probably doesn't care what you think about its supposed unfunny-ness...

Jimmy Fallon almost screwed up the Cowbell sketch. The Cowbell sketch! With his camera mugging and inability to stop giggling, he almost ruined one of the best moments in SNL. And he only had a bit part with one or two lines. There are no words for that amount of suck. I could care less what his writing skills are, he doesn't belong in front of a camera.

Yeah, that makes sense. Someone having an opinion differing from your own makes them an idiot. That's a very educated stance there. As much as Fallons' flaws with laughing during skits annoy you, there clearly is something about him that attracted SNL scouts to him in the first place. Its not like SNL was starved for comics when they hired him so clearly they didn't hire the guy out of pity. I think think someday y'all will realize that Fallon's got a lot of potential to do some good things in showbiz (possibly in his late nite hosting role). He just needs to work on maintaining his composure during skits. All you guys got to learn how to stop being jealous, pathetic, celebrity-bashing losers who would rather critizise someoone famous than improving things in your own lives. See, everyone wins!

Conan will totally suck at 11:30 because he will have to tone everything down.

Jimmy Fallon just plain sucks in every way.
