FTA: "My wife, who was about seven months pregnant, delivered the baby while struggling to free herself.

"It was a painful experience for me and her," Mr Yekum said.

Why do men always try to share in the pain of childbirth, like they did it? Geez...

Uhh, I think he was referring to the whole ordeal of being dragged from his home in the middle of the night by an angry mob and hanged from a tree. It's always about you women, isn't it?

Might have something with the fact they were both hanged from a tree and escaped... and nothing to do with child birth. Wouldn't imagine it would be a blast being hanged.

Isn't primitive culture great?

Burn her - burn her

If she's a witch - she's made of wood -

See if she floats - if she doesn't float and drowns, then she wasn't a witch so there will be much rejoicing

If she does float then she is a witch - then burn her - and there will be much rejoicing

There's a scale, weigh, duck thing, but that's too complicated - just burn or drown her

2008-02-25 09:47:04 PM
But did they dress her up? A bit?

I'm no cultural relativist, but do you think it's perfectly acceptable for people living in one of the most technologically advanced countries on Earth, with access to more information than anyone has in history, to still believe the Earth is only 6000 years old?

Wow, I came into this thread thinking this was some archaeological/historical discovery. I guess humanity still has some kinks to work out.

40oz_A_Knight: Isn't primitive culture great?

I think the defining idea behind relativism is that what is moral to some is not moral to others. Relativism thus requires that people have a fundamental difference to require these differences in culture etc. So, what's "good" or "right" to black people, for instance, is different that what's 'good' for white people, or any other distinguishing feature you might seek to assign a "culture" or "morality" to.

Relativism is a euphemism for racism, nationalism, regionalism, and many other forms of small-minded thought. Saying that these primitive peoples are different and that we shouldn't interfere in their backwards practices is to say they don't deserve the same standards that we set for all the other people of the world.

We'll never get anywhere as a world society if we keep dehumanizing each other.
