shot one
2002-10-30 02:57:52 PM
wow, this is sure gonna rock the nation.

seriously though. Mondale is a news flash... a deputy getting shot in the calf in a courthouse is hardly the same.
2002-10-30 03:01:54 PM
Fe fi fo fum
I smell Fundamentalist Muslim.
2002-10-30 03:02:42 PM
Well that sucks... luckily those metal detectors picked up on the gun before anyone got killed.
2002-10-30 03:02:47 PM
"Two shot at Dayton courthouse"

I think it should read

"Two shot at Dayton courthouse, doo da doo da"

It's a little bit more catchy and we haven't had much of the doo da doo da complants lately.

/I'm out...
2002-10-30 03:04:29 PM
Johnson said the man tried to go past metal detectors with the gun.
"That's when they detected the weapon," she said.

Thanks for the clarification.
2002-10-30 03:04:39 PM
Another peice of the Montgomery connection?

/tin foil hat
2002-10-30 03:04:44 PM
Oh my. the horror of it all... hardly news to say the least.... no death=no news. Unless ofcourse the guy with the gun was OJ, Robert Blake or some other washed up hasbeen celeb...
2002-10-30 03:04:51 PM
Another piece of the Montgomery connection?

Johnson said the man tried to go past metal detectors with the gun.

"That's when they detected the weapon," she said.

Wow. Who'd of thunk that THAT woulda happened? Strange how those funny contraptions work like that.
2002-10-30 03:11:26 PM
even though nobody died, it does highlight the massive need for gun control, while idiots can buy guns, idiots will still shoot people with guns
2002-10-30 03:14:58 PM
I'm two blocks from there right now. No big deal people get shot all the time around here. Just cause he has a badge it is all of the sudden Fark worthy?? Seriously shooting around here don't even make the front page of the Dayton Daily News.

"I shot the Sheriff, but I did not shot the deputy"
2002-10-30 03:15:55 PM
I wanna know if it was a terrorist act. If it ain't terrorists, it ain't shiat.
2002-10-30 03:17:54 PM

Hey man, nice shot.

This type of thing proves that now, more than ever, we need Walter Mondale to run for some type of office.

2002-10-30 03:22:49 PM
This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Cool. We can still talk about it on Fark.
2002-10-30 03:26:02 PM
CommieSheep, Don't even go there again.... Crime Control makes more sense. Get rid of criminals and no one will get hurt.. Guns are not the only deadly weapon available, just the most effective. Trust me people will kill people with or with out.... Don't trash the thread with another useless gun debate.
2002-10-30 03:29:49 PM
[Some drivel about gun control as a solution to homocidal idiots]... up to his name again. You don't even live in the USA do you commie.
2002-10-30 03:29:59 PM
The extent of the man's injuries were not immediately available, but there are reports that his is in critical condition. Police Detective Carol Johnson said the deputy was shot in the calf, and there are reports that his is in stable condition.

Unlawful use of the word "his".
2002-10-30 03:31:52 PM
This is absurd! Ohio doesn't have concealed carry! How did this man get his gun to the courthouse? Doesn't he know that's illegal? Oh, wait a minute...must be that whole "Criminals don't follow the law" thing again

2002-10-30 03:32:04 PM
the problem with guns is that they empower thousands of cowardly asshats like this guy, and really do nothing to protect honest and noble citizens.
2002-10-30 03:34:58 PM
Ah yes, it's good to be back. I missed all the random acts of violence that I wasn't subjected to in Vermont. Well, actually I'm in Beavercreek not Dayton, but it's all the same.

On another note, is anyone else finding that is loading slower than usual?
2002-10-30 03:35:31 PM
It's all Michael Moore's fault. His movie "Bowling For Columbine" is sending negative messages to America's citizens. It has nothing to do with the downward spiral of the American economy, horrific fear of imminent terrorist attack, fear of commie pinko liberals pushing sex education and making health care free or "A Team" reruns on TNN.
2002-10-30 03:38:56 PM
Well, at least we can safely say that all these shootings lately have nothing at all to do with the availabilitiy of guns in the U.S.

Because, as we all know, guns don't kill people. People kill people.
2002-10-30 03:41:44 PM
MadCharlie To me it always seems that is slow when there is a flamewar going on on one thread or another. There has to be a bottleneck somewhere in the forums system, but what would I know, I am a 2nd-ammendment-loving, gun-buff, southern conservative.
2002-10-30 03:42:37 PM
Newsflash - People get shot every damn day.
Newsflash - Why is this a newsflash again?
2002-10-30 03:42:38 PM
I had to go there one time for a speeding ticket. DOWNTOWN DAYTON SUCKS MONKEY VAGINA!!
2002-10-30 03:46:27 PM
Hey, that's 10 minutes from here.
Still pretty boring.
2002-10-30 03:49:48 PM
no, for the last time, it isn't guns that kill people--it's that funny sound they make.
2002-10-30 03:50:35 PM
Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming????

Oh. Nevermind.

2002-10-30 03:52:49 PM
Shot in the calf? Apparently the asshat forgot that you need to aim first, then pull the trigger. How do you expect to kill a cop shooting him in the calf?
2002-10-30 03:56:36 PM

I had not even thought about a monkey's vagina, ever. Until now...... Thanks!

There is one good thing about Downtown Dayton. You can get a pretty good contact buzz just walking by the bus stops on your lunch break. See all the kids that skip school just hang out at the bus stops, harass "biatches" and smoke weed. Smoke alot of weed. And the cops don't even care. I swear I saw a kid blow pot smoke in a police horse's face, with the cop on it. He was looking the other way, but I smelled it as I walked by.

Noone gives a fark.
2002-10-30 03:58:25 PM
CommieSheep - even though nobody died, it does highlight the massive need for gun control, while idiots can buy guns, idiots will still shoot people with guns

Um, Sparky? Ohio has some pretty strict gun control laws to begin with. I'm pretty sure this guy was breaking several laws to begin with.

As such, this story should have gotten an "Unlikely" tag, because we know that gun control works.
2002-10-30 03:58:33 PM
the problem with guns is that they empower thousands of cowardly asshats like this guy, and really do nothing to protect honest and noble citizens.

In this case however it was a gun that stopped this guy from shooting anyone else.
2002-10-30 03:59:12 PM
American media reminds me of a commercial for a monster truck rally.

But in reality it's just some trucks driving around in a circle. Kinda like my afternoon commute, really...
2002-10-30 04:02:47 PM
The problem with the Internet is that it empowers complete morons to say whatever they want online, but nobody is saying "ban the Internet" are they?
2002-10-30 04:19:34 PM
Madcharlie: the main difference between beavercreek and dayton is that dayton has smut shops. and it takes longer to get anywhere in beavercreek than dayton.
2002-10-30 04:43:58 PM
You know what, guns or no guns, people are still going to find a way to kill each other. I'll stab you in the eye with my pink neon pencil! ;-)

flying pink neon pencil fark of death!
2002-10-30 04:46:35 PM
I have a need for a massive bowel movement. Not massive gun control, however, whatever that is.
2002-10-30 05:21:26 PM
NEW RULE (if anybody is still reading this thread...)

Start posting links on Fark whenever anybody gets hit by a car. There are a couple of shootings a day, sure. But intentional and unintentional driving injuries FAR outnumber shootings.

Just goes to show in our stupid airheaded liberal media - if it bleeds (as in gun shot wound) it leads.
2002-10-30 05:23:30 PM
HAH! Alright, you guys owe me 20 bucks. I knew CommieSheep would be preaching gun control in this thread.
2002-10-30 05:25:52 PM
FYI- Suspect has died, according to local TV news (WKRC, Cincinnati).
2002-10-30 05:31:45 PM

Lol, I've never seen an Izzard reference on Fark before.

Bang, Bang, Bang-rat-a-tat, boom!
2002-10-30 05:43:44 PM
I'm surprised no one pointed out- the best thing about Dayton, of course, is it's excellent subway system
2002-10-30 05:46:10 PM
I went to college in Dayton, I'm surprised there are still people living there. The city is a ghost town. If Wright Patterson Air Force Base wasn't there the city would be abandoned.
2002-10-30 05:56:20 PM
Just another example of "peaceful" humans When will the world learn that humans are all proponents of violence and deserve to be punished collectively.
2002-10-30 05:58:50 PM
Charlton Heston should be there in no time to speak at the inevitable pro-gun rally and argue that the metal detector should be removed at once so that any gun owning American can be able to carry his gun into any court room as he damn well pleases! Dirty damn Ohio apes!
2002-10-30 06:17:28 PM
Seriously shooting around here don't even make the front page of the Dayton Daily News.

So true. Getting shot is pretty normal in Dayton, this isn't a big deal.

Shooting at a building that happens to be a police station, across from the FBI building, however, happens to be stupid even for Dayton.

And no, Dayton is not a ghost town. It's just a shiathole.
2002-10-30 06:28:55 PM
Ppl shot? Bah? Courthouse drama ain't got nothing on the drama we had here a few years back. Someone tried to blow up the courthouse. Didn't explore. Asshat made a faulty trigger/switch/etc. Only caught fire. It would have been a doozy if it had gone off. They never did catch who did it.
2002-10-30 07:47:01 PM
Oh yeah, gun control would solve the problem. You see, only law enforcement would have guns, and that's what I call smart thinking. How do you think we eliminated all of the drug use in the US? I don't have to tell you how tough it is to find crack or heroin these days.
2002-10-30 08:41:16 PM
Why don't they just go ahead and make guns illegal? Sure, sure a few guns will slip through the cracks (just like a few illegal drugs slip through) and make their way into the hands of criminals, but these criminals are at least professionals at weapons handling and will use the gun to make a living so taxpayers don't have to support them. All the other outlawed guns will then be out of the hands of inexperienced gun users who might harm themselves or the criminals who are only trying to make an honest buck.
