It's all a ploy. The Democrats are going to make a return at No Holds Barred and retake the title.

2002-10-30 06:49:31 PM
Um. It's too bad he can't appoint anyone.

That's the Democrat's responsibility.

I haven't followed his political agenda, but hoo-ray for a politician who is willing to walk out on the bullshiat that was the Wellstone 'Memorial'

I wouldn't want Cheney at my funeral either, unless he was being roasted over a spit.

"Ventura later backed off his statements somewhat, saying: "I haven't ruled anything out." Among the options, he said, is to appoint "a regular citizen" with no connection to politics...The appointee would only serve for a few weeks."

2002-10-30 06:52:53 PM
Too bad you have no idea what your talking about Bryckmen. He can appoint a new senator in this case. And I don't blame him, because that "memorial" service was nothing more than a democratic pep-rally.

Is he strong enough to serve as President?

2002-10-30 06:54:04 PM
Is it just me, or are most of the cooler political statements being made these days coming from shiatstacks?

2002-10-30 06:54:33 PM
Nice to know those open-minded, liberal, compassionate folks of the Donkey party have just enough political fervor to tunr a solemn occasion into a Hilter-esque rally.

2002-10-30 06:54:39 PM
I think Jesse has parkinsons or something. He shakes like a dog passing a peach pit.

2002-10-30 06:55:07 PM
In the case of a senatorial (is that a word?) race being contested, the governor has the ability to appoint a senator of his choosing.

So in short, Bryckman, neener neener.

2002-10-30 06:55:48 PM
Why should I trust anyone who's political cabinet includes the bald black guy from Predator, Mean Gene Okerlund, and Gorilla Monsoon?

Oh wait...that's exactly WHY I should trust him!

2002-10-30 06:56:41 PM
granted, that senator only serves until the contested race is uh, non-contested (whether it be by recounts or technicalities or what not)

2002-10-30 06:56:58 PM
Jesse Ventura is no hero, under any circumstances, at any time, anywhere.

2002-10-30 06:57:41 PM
Yeah, it was partisan, and somewhat lacking in tact, but then again, so was Wellstone. Having reviewed his life I'm quite convinced Wellstone would have wanted his memorial to be that way. Think about it. He saw his Senate career as a battle against the forces of conservatism and Republicanism in this country- he dedicated his every waking moment away from his family to that cause, and stepped on a lot of toes in the process. Whether he was right or wrong is immaterial- can you see why they would make the memorial into a political statement? His *life* was a political statement!

With the Senate hanging in the balance at a crucial time in our nation's history, dang straight Wellstone would want a Democrat elected- and that memorial was the focus of the whole state. *He* wouldn't have let that opportunity slide- why should the people charged with continuing his memory?

2002-10-30 06:58:37 PM
The AP misquoted him, what he really said was this:

In referring to the Democrats: "I ain't got time to bleed!"

In referring to the Republicans: "There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die."

In referring to why he subscribes to MPR, "Bunch of slack-jawed faggots around here! This stuff will make you a god damnned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me!"

WAH WAH WAH

Jesse's just pissed becuase he got booed.

Anyone that wishes to have a future in MN politics wouldn't take this gig.

Just like the Elephant party has turned our country into a Hitler-esque rally.

2002-10-30 07:00:50 PM
Bryckmen you are an idiot. Learn the law and figure out what is going on. Gov replaces the candidate who dies for the remainder of his term in office. The party can replace the dead candidate currently on the ballot up for election.

I kept waiting for the heil Hilter or heil Clinton to come out of people's mouths last night. It was sameful! I would vote for the Green party before voting for the Dems. At least they have some values.

2002-10-30 07:02:25 PM
Misleading headlines once again... Ventura never once said in that article that he would replace Wellstone with an independent if the election was contested (especialy since he can't) All he said he's going to do is appoint an independent instead of a democrat for the 2 months between now and when the newly elected senator takes the seat in January (which he is in his rights to do, and is expected to do)

And I agree with Captainktainer, Wellstone most likely wanted the memorial that way. His family apparantly didn't object at all. And it was a memorial service, not the funeral.

2002-10-30 07:02:42 PM
My Prediction:
Before this time next year Fark will need to introduce the Minnesota tag. (and I'm a resident!)

HERO: Epistax says fark republicans.

2002-10-30 07:04:05 PM
Ant, it WAS bad. And I'm one who wears my bleeding heart on my sleeve! It was a disgusting display of shameless exploitation. Lott/Ventura were correct in walking out (this is the the first time I've ever said words of praise for either of them - and I am angry that I had to break my streak of anti-Lott arguments). The Dems were nauseating.

*grumble*

Jesse Rocks.

2002-10-30 07:06:46 PM
why is this a big deal to anyone?

I voted for Jesse. Overall I think he has been good for the state of Minnesota. He brought noteriety to the state and kept drumming up business for Minnesota farmers and industries. I didn't like how he handled the strike by state workers like a Republican, but he does thumb his nose at the religous right every chance he gets. Kahn did go over the line, no doubt about that, but the guy was a close personal friend of Wellstone and didn't want to see his legacy lost. He can be forgiven. I hope Jesse does appoint an average joe to server out the last 10 days of Wellstone's term but after that I'm voting for Fritz.

I'd love to see him appoint somebody really kooky, like his first grade teacher or something.

2002-10-30 07:14:21 PM
Jesse Ventura is GOD. This country would suck a lot less if he were president.

2002-10-30 07:16:44 PM
Me thinks politics is a bunch of crap.

2002-10-30 07:17:19 PM
a shame he can't appoint Tyrel Ventura to the Senate. :)

2002-10-30 07:18:04 PM
Odd...I'd expected that a sizable portion of Fark's left-wing contingent would already be here denying that their little get-together was actually an excuse for a political rally.

C'mon, sound off, guys! Let's hear all about how it was totally unplanned, and the eeeevil Republicans are blowing this out of proportion and exploiting Wellstone's death for their own nefarious purposes!

2002-10-30 07:19:09 PM
Well, one thing's for sure... it's made the race for this senate seat a whole lot more interesting. Too bad it had to come about this way.

2002-10-30 07:19:41 PM
Hey Jesse, join a party and then you can talk!

Yeah, God, mom, and apple pie forbid anyone who isn't a member of the Republicrats or Demublicans holds authority or makes a decision.

2002-10-30 07:20:17 PM
People are too busy being political in the comment section one article down.

Reading around the net news sites this Rally - Memorial is quickly turning into a black eye for the Dems.

1. They told the Vice President of the United States to stay away. I don't give a FARK what party the VP is in. But he IS the VP and he wanted to pay his respects.

2. The public booing of Trent Lott. Again it crossed party lines into sheer stupidity.

3. Instead of talking about the life of the deceased it was in all sense and purpose a POLITICAL RALLY.

I'd laugh my ass off if Jesse appointed a janitor to the seat for the interm.

2002-10-30 07:25:18 PM
Yeah, something tragic occurs that actually unites Dems from across the board to a cause, and they get demonized for it. Brrrrrrillllleeeyent.

Trot_to_Trotsky: Uhhh.....Gorilla Monsoon's been dead for three years already.

you assgloves! it wasn't planned at all, i for one found it very touching. the republican bastards are the ones exploiting the whole thing for their own purposes, anyone that doesn't agree with me is an assglove

what are we talking about? i wasn't paying attention
