Why didn't he just send in the SWAT team with an armored personnel carrier and tear gas to have them destroy the house, burn his dog alive while taunting him about it, and leave its carcass rotting in the ashes for his neighbors to have to smell for a week in 105-degree heat?

After all, that's how the pigs at the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deal with misdemeanor traffic citations.

My first, first-hand intoduction to the "right to bear arms" was at a wedding in Texas.

I did not know anyone, so I ended up talking with this cute little old lady.

On the way home, my boyfriend let this drop, "You know she was packing."

I was like, "WTF?"

He said, no, she has one in her purse, she takes it everywhere.

I am like, "WTF?"

Even to a wedding?????

Yup

Don't Mess With Texas, or at least don't mess with little old ladies who are at weddings in Texas.

I just came in here to say one thing: I hope "Sheriff Joe" is one day treated to all the wonderful things he's done to other folks. Then he should DIAF.

/Okay, that was two things.

Two years younger and he would just killed the guy as per modern day cop protocol.

2008-02-22 03:33:48 AM
They had a SWAT team and sealed off surrounding streets. The guy was 91 and confined to a bed. They should have just let him fall asleep, because we all know old people can't stay up that long.

Wow.... just wow. I'm surprised anybody involved in that 'operation' still have their jobs. Seriously, everybody there should have been fired and charges pressed against Arpaio and anybody else in charge.

Joe Arpaio is a dangerous criminal. He is the sole reason for me not wanting to move to Arizona. Or at least that area.

Have had a buddy for some years who gets around in a wheel chair. He says he's not 'confined' to it (he's not in jail, after all), he's liberated by it.

The Maricopa county residents love the guy and keep re-electing him. He seems to have the most support from the "get off my lawn" demographic.

As to a 91 year old in Sun City wanting to off himself - that doesn't surprise me. I've been here two and a half weeks and about ready to go throw myself in traffic.

/going home very soon
//thank god

Wow... you know what? There's stuff on his Wikipedia entry that I was unaware had even existed. (All backed by reputable citations).

An example:

Brian Crenshaw was a blind inmate allegedly beaten into a coma by guards working under Arpaio. Crenshaw suffered injuries that included a perforated intestine and a broken neck. He later died at a local hospital. When asked about the incident, Arpaio insisted, "The man fell off a bunk."[12]

This is one of several alleged homicides.

Couldn't he have just stood on the hose?

2008-02-22 04:01:27 AM
She said that during the talks, Rodocker kept demanding for Arpaio to come out and talk to him, resulting in arrangements with KPHO, Channel 5, the CBS affiliate in Phoenix, for a live feed.

Um, WTF?

While, I am outspoken critic on Arpaio and have lambasted him several times for that incident, that article is so slanted it's not even funny. It doesn't even get into the history of the victim until the second page and minimizes it in every possible way. Then you find out the truth about the quarter-million dollar homes and "gated" community. The truth is bad enough, there's no need to embellish it.

I am trying to figure out how a 90 year old with a shotgun is any less dangerous than anybody else with a similar weapon?

Does it hurt less if your shot by the elderly?

"What do they call you? 'Wheels?'"

Now I'm usually pretty sympathetic to cops, having worked with and around them in EMS. But everything I've heard about this Arpaio guy indicates he's a stain on humanity.

/and given humanity's norm, for a stain like him to stand out says something

i just came to say +1 to subby for not succumbing to cliche pressure and including 'lawn' in the headline cuz it had an old guy in it.

kudos.

Joe Arpaio is what you get when you combine Bush, Chertoff, Rumsfield, Gonzales, and Ann Coulter. Toss in a John Wayne complex for good measure. The man has perfected the republican "fear factor" down to the local level. Here there are not just terrorists, they are illegal mexican baby raping drug dealers, every dark skinned man is one, and they all plan to assassinate the good sherriff. They may also be helping Iranians sneak into our power plant to steal the last piece of material they need for their dirty bomb.

Remember, Joe is here to protect us and if you disagree with him you must have something to hide. Anyone who runs against him rapes their mom.

So it's the Sheriff that is stupid, not the people who elect him over and over.

What I find particularly interesting is the 91 year old guy had already been disarmed by a robot sent in by the cops before Arpaio arrived.

I think it was very brave of Sheriff Joe to approach an elderly, unstable, frail, unarmed man to talk with him on live television in the bright, sunny spotlight.

Wow. Did I really type that with a straight face?

And you can bet the Sheriff's office will compile a list of people who posted comments to the article that expressed sadness at the man not having a back up piece on him.

The Sheriff is the only one dealing with the illegal immigrants. We need to clone him.

They keep re-electing him, and he (and the county) keeps losing lawsuits. The people who protect him will get sick of the millions it costs to defend his criminal ass eventually....Then he'll be living in a tent wearing pink underwear.

Godscrack: Is that from a video game?

The End, from Metal Gear Solid 3. Sniper so old that he spends most of the time on the verge of death, until he's revived to fight.

Funny thing is, you can apparently just hide and leave the game running for a few hours, and he'll fall over dead on his own.

Adam Ant - yeah I win. No wait I lose 'cause I don't get the reference.

So exactly how much is THIS lawsuit going to cost the taxpayers who re-elect him.

Alas, Sheriff Douchebag gets to show his mug on camera...for the 10th time this week.
Napoleon Bon-Arpaio strikes again, and we natives all get to hear about his "heroics" for the next week on our 6 o'clock news.

Damn, I still need to play Snake Eater. Please tell me the protagonist's personality is inversely badass to the epic fail of MGS2.

This 91 year old 'gunman's worst crime was giving Sherriff Douchebag another reason for a media appearance. Wake up Phoenix, there's nothing original about this man; for example his bologna sandwiches are pretty much standard lockup fare everywhere. This is what Sheriff Joe is: a government issue loudmouth with no respect for the taxpayers or the Bill of Rights. At best he's a buffoon.
