This is standard Scientology teaching.

Children are not children; they are immortal souls and should be treated as such.

If you needed any more reasons to hate Scientology, this one might work.

Wouldn't it be funny if someone claimed their daughter had already signed a billion year contract with some other cult, and therefor could never sign the similar Scientology contract.

Look - they even come in different colours! I'm think the Cruises should avail themselves of one each...they can even colour coordinate them. Tom would look great in the black, and I'm thinking Katie would probably go with the purple one. Stylish.

Your child is just a unique snowflake, NOT a unit worthy of cult worship.

Can't believe I said that.

boiled barley juice means 'beer', right?

i'm sure the offspring of tom cruise and katie holmes is going to be an extremely farkable chick. let's face it: they're two of the most attractive people in the western world. the fact that they have the combined intelligence of a snail doesn't mean that they can't become the president of the united states, can it?

Oh please. I can find free porn sites with hotter chicks than Katie, and Tom is just white-bread Tom. I'm better looking than he is (of course in my own opinion)...

(used to pattern my hair after Tom in the 1980s, so ashamed now)

Seems to me that Scientology is no more delusional than any other religion. They are all "cults".

Can anyone say why this brand of crazy is more crazy?

And aside from trying to put shrinks out of business, I haven't seen any proven harm come from them. Matter of fact, I'd say they appear fairly content and successful.

Don't you mean the offspring of Katie Holmes and an L. Ron-sicle?

Maybe she'll have mom's good looks and the sperm donor's mental instability, and who doesn't like a crazy cute chick?

I expected all the batshiat crap in that article, but what concerns me the most is this section:
Their daughter does not even go to bed until 11pm, and Suri has hardly any discipline. But there are still some rules.

Way to have your kid work around YOUR schedule you shiat heads. Don't worry, the baby isn't tired - she's millions of years old already!

Tom forbids television and because of anti-Scientology sites, when she is old enough, her computer use will be very limited.

Nice. Work in that censorship angle as much as possible, that way when she goes out on her own as a teen one day it will be like Brendan Fraser coming out of the Bomb shelter in 'Blast from the Past'. Do they plan to put a tracking collar on her too?

Sad for this kid.

OK then, if you don't want the condensed stuff (most of which existed well before Anonymous ever showed up) then howabout the Time magazine article from 1991.

Or is that not journalistic enough?

The Time article above is pretty good. This Newsweek article is less harsh on Scientology, but you have to remember that the church of Scientology has advertised in Newsweek, so I'd say Newsweek is prone to being biased towards Scientology. Even so, they report the facts, and the facts point to Scientology being a cult.

Guys, Chewy68 is probably Chewyandbert, a professional Scientologist apologist. Do a Google search for Chewyandbert. This person's job is to monitor and react to anti-Scientologist comments on the web. He or she just isn't that inventive in creating sock puppet names.

So I googled Chewyandbert and it was amusing for a while, and then it just got boring. The same stuff, time after time. You'd think if your only purpose in life was to post messages on the internet you'd get, you know, creative and/or interesting after a while.

Now you see, my theory is that there's a Chewyandbert detail in the Clearwater FLAG RPF. That's right, screaming into the internet night is a Scientology punishment.

I don't really care what people believe, as long as they don't try to sell it to me, especially when I'm at the airport trying to make a flight or by coming to my door and bugging me.

What I don't respect is duplicity about defending one's faith. I'm a dirt-worshipping tree-hugger. When it comes up in conversation, I don't pretend that I'm not, and just playing Devil's Advocate for those who are. Most people in our society, and around the planet, derive their faith from some sort of holy book or books. We're probably all wrong, but whatever keeps you from freaking out at the thought of personal extinction, fine.

There's a few reasons:

The "tech" - using homemade, poorly designed, unreliable lie detectors in order to achieve the same effect as traditional confession.

The whole OT III Space Opera...it's bad 1950s Sci-Fi presented as fact...as opposed to ancient superstitions presented as fact.

The people who have been killed while under Scientology "care".

The people who have been harrassed and framed for crimes for speaking against Scientology.

The fact that the main motivating factor for Scientology is money - to achieve the highest OT levels, a total of $300,000 will be spent.

Sea Org, the Rehabilitation Project Force, Operation Snow White, Operation Freakout, the fact that the "auditing" process involves "command" hypnosis, the fact that France has labeled Scientology as an "absolute sect" and recommended that all its activities be prohibited, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, the strange jargon used, the Freewinds Cruise ship, Lafayette Hubbard's drug use and diary notes such as "All men are your slaves," and "You can be merciless whenever your will is crossed and you have the right to be merciless."...all that and more are reasons to despise Scientology above all other religions.

There are NO REDEEMING VALUES in Scientology. It should be dismantled, preferably from the inside. I'd love to infiltrate the local Scientology cult and try to take them down...but I don't want to waste my money progressing up to Charles Manson's...er...David Miscavige's position.

No, she doesn't. And being under Tom's care, I can see it. But Kate? She had a pretty normal Catholic upbringing. I can't understand why she'd let her own daughter be raised like this.
