Out of principle, I refuse to feel sorry for a guy who lives in a place where you can walk into a coffeeshop and get quality ganja for a very low price, legally.

It's $150/quarter here. Count your blessings.

Clevershark - It has been a while since I moved any weed but that sounds somewhat pricey.

Andonbray: I bet you Threeve's lunch money that this discussion devolves into people aruging about how much of the pot is in a "lid."

2002-10-30 12:51:36 AM
To keep this on topic, was I the only one that jumped out of his seat in fright as the picture of the "boo" piece of paper came onto my screen?

I was? Oh. Never mind then.

Heh, "lid" I haven't heard that term in a while.
Yeah, the topic will turn to that or how to fake glaucoma symptoms.

Aww geez... The Hitler costume really did it for me - well, that and the way he complains about them not having Halloween when they DO have legalized pretty much everything sexual. I don't think he knows how many American perverts would like to trade in candy and teen horror flicks for a good time Madam Bertha's or whatever fashionable Netherlandese are naming their offspring these days.

Spooky potato!

I hate to threadjack, but I just want to give you a glimpse of the joy that is having a 3 year-old daughter. My kid just woke up screaming that she had to barf, so I rush in to her room, pull her out of bed and put her on a stool in front of the sink so she can barf. She proceeds to pee all over me, the cabinet, the stool, the carpet....

She says, "I mean't, I had to pee"

But this is incorrect. Halloween is very popular in Europe. At least in Germany. For much of the 1800's Germany was famous for making Halloween decorations. If you watch Antique Roadshow long enough you will eventually see some folks with German plaster jack-o-lanterns from the 1870's.

This dude from the netherlands has a better command of the english language then 3/4th's of the population here in the US. He probably speaks about 6 other languages too.
Doesn't anyone go to the bars and halloween parties dressed up in halloween garb anymore? I went to some last year and hardly anyone was dressed up. Lame.

The scary Frisbee and Gatekeeper costume frightened me... but so do tapeworms.

Halloween parties are the best.

Nothing beats taking a girl home to fark who's dressed like up like something. HOT! ;)

He CLAIMS to be from the Netherlands, and yet he makes a joke about calling 911. I don't think they have 911 in the Netherlands and if they DO have something similar, it's probably not actually 911... probably something really dorky like 644. Man would that be dorky.

2002-10-30 01:17:49 AM
No, it's 912 8-)

2002-10-30 01:26:36 AM
They have hyphens and parenthesis on the phones over there?

Crazy.

Sounds like Halloween in Australia. When I lived there (Jan 1987 - Aug 1989) I went to two hours: mine, and the people down the street who we'd introduced to the Dark Side.

We have pictures of my sister, the girls from up the road, me and my friend dressed up and having a Halloween part *in the middle of the afternoon*. I seem to recall something at school, too, although that may have been to indulge the weird cultural traditions of the foreign kid.

2002-10-30 01:35:02 AM
It's 112 in Holland, not 911. I'm guessing he just translated it so Americans wouldn't be confused and write him hate mail.

2002-10-30 01:36:17 AM
actually it is 112...

and he is kind of right, the dutch don't really celebrate it, but know of it...anyway about the weed prices..

we pay depending on what you pick off a menu in a coffee shop, about 5 euros a gram. As the dollar is pretty close to the dollar you can all do the math. But like i said it depends which weed, hash or thai you choose...or in other words after how many hits you want to pass out.

*marijuana, nature's way of saying HI!*

2002-10-30 01:37:53 AM
It's all designed to confuse visiting americans :-)

Anyone else notice the screencap from Paper Route or Paper Boy or whatever that game was called?

As a former resident of the wonderful country of the Netherlands, or Nederlaands, I can tell you that the closer the proximity to a US Air Force or Army installation, the more they celebrate the holiday. The older Dutch folks didn't quite understand the whole thing, but kids, being kids, knew if they made some feeble attempt at a costume, then the local Americans would give them candy. The nice thing was they didn't know about the trick part of the deal.

P.S. While not technically legal, MJ possession is ignored by the law enforcement community...

2002-10-30 02:05:40 AM
The nice thing was they didn't know about the trick part of the deal.

So there were no attempts to egg your windmill? *g, j/k*

2002-10-30 03:59:52 AM
so how much weed is in a lid?

2002-10-30 05:07:56 AM
The dutchies do grow the best weed this is true, I seriously recommend you try some northern lights or some genetically modified superskunk if you're ever over there, I mean check out the number of buds on this bad boy for instance, it's not even funny...

2002-10-30 05:46:19 AM
Doorframe, actually it's 112 here. However, what percentage of the international audience would have had a farkingmonkeybollock of a clse what he was on about? No, I don't mean you, I mean out of everbody.

2002-10-30 07:44:06 AM
I usually celebrate by sticking my finger in a dyke.

2002-10-30 07:51:08 AM
Screw Halloween. There's a beer festival in Amsterdam this weekend and I'm going to be waiting outside when it opens.

2002-10-30 09:02:27 AM
AustinSlacker:
Where you stationed in Soesterberg? I was one of those dutch kids wearing a white blanket trying to get some candy from the Yanks (we'd always get Life Savers).

Gadreel, where's the festival? Just got back from holiday, havent heard of it yet.

2002-10-30 09:50:58 AM
Wow - someone else played Nightmare as a kid. I suddenly feel like a LITTLE less of a nerd. Or perhaps just one in good company.

AustinSlacker;

November 1-3 at the Beurs van Berlage on Damrak in Amsterdam. I think it's 5 Euro to get in.

How would I celebrate Halloween in the Netherlands? With a 17-year-old legal hooker. I don't do weed, but dang I love the whole legalized prostitution AND lowered age of consent in Amsterdam.

2002-10-30 12:34:16 PM
I spent a Halloween in Denmark once. I was working for a band, and no one there had any idea what Halloween was. I had spent most of the day looking for a mask with no luck. That night, I had everyone carving scary faces in the fruit from the catering tray. My friend Tadayuki carved the scariest banana I have ever seen. It was snowy and we had a bunch of hash and a bottle of vodka. Best Halloween ever...

2002-10-30 01:54:58 PM
When I was a kid, my neighbours were Asian and I went there on Halloween and they didn't know what the hell was going on. They just looked at me and laughed. I asked for candy and they laughed again. And that was about it.

fulfilling Filth's prophecy

Clevershark. WTF like many have said. Get a different dealer. I live in the middle of nowhere and if I wanted to smoke again, I could that from $ 70-100 (canadian tho).

2002-10-30 02:37:24 PM
Yeah Clevershark, if you're paying those sorts of prices let me know next time you want some and I'll hook you up, and put my kids through college too by the looks of it.

2002-10-30 03:43:14 PM
Halloween-party on the 'Leidseplein' (Amsterdam) tomorrow! Free drinks or something for the best costume. Too bad the places on the 'Leidseplein' either are for tourists only or just suck anyway.

2002-10-31 02:35:10 AM
I'm in the Netherlands and I miss Halloween too. So what if you can buy weed here? I don't need weed, people look at me like I'm high half the time when I don't smoke a thing. Being naturally weird is cheaper, too (even with the prices of weed being rather low). I may dress up when I go out today but it would be fun to have someone to go trick-or-treating with or if there were a party to go to. (in my part of the country -we have a small country but not *that* small)

Hahaha, I told him the same exact thing a while ago. It's so true...
