wants to be sure her children are taught all sides of the evolution issue

I'm sure she studied the current research, especially regarding recent advances in paleontological molecular biology, before she came to her conclusions.

She is also quote stupid based on her stance on this issue. Yeah I said it.

Behe, an expert witness in the landmark Kitzmiller case, said some organisms are so ''irreducibly complex'' that natural selection is left wanting, and more strongly suggests that an unnamed supernatural designer crafted them. And this, Behe calls God, though he said the concept doesn't concern itself with the designer's makeup.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Stupid.

Fine, if you insist on "teaching all sides" of evolution, I insist that we teach "all sides" of the following:

The Holocaust: real or a Jewish conspiracy?
How the WTC came down: LOL STEEL DOESN'T MELT AT THAT TEMPERATURE
George H.W. Bush's role in JFK's assassination
The seven Jew bankers in the bunker under Switzerland controlling the money supply and media
The Rothschilds secretly running the United States (in league with the lizard people and reverse vampires)

The pentavirate is a secret society that meets once a year at an estate in Colorado known as "The Meadows" and, in fact, rules the world.

Comprised of: The Vatican, the Gettys, the Rothschilds, the Queen of England and Col. Sanders, when he was alive.

Why do Evolutionists insist on denying the Holocaust? Is is because Richard Dawkins thinks that eugenics may not be bad?

That's not what Dawkins said at all. All he said was we should at least examine the question without having all the Hitler baggage attached to it.

Hell, that's not even what kronicfeld said. All his point was is that "all sides" are not equally valuable. And with regards to evolution, intelligent design has as little value as Holocaust denial.

I can't think of any evolutionists who are holocaust deniars, but I can think of many intelligent design proponents who are. I guess stupidity runs deep in your ideological camp.

I went to Catholic schools, and the only time creation was mentioned was in theology class. In Biology, it was all about evolution.

2008-02-18 11:19:27 AM
What I don't understand is why this is a debate at all. Last time I checked, parents weren't involved in the creation of any other education standards.

If standards were allowed to be set by parents and/or the public as a whole, I certainly wouldn't be teaching half of what I do in my math class. Most of my parents have no clue how to help their kids with the basic math I send home, even with directions attached. I teach third grade. In Florida. Maybe that's the problem.

2008-02-18 11:31:23 AM
Thats cause Catholics by and large got over this nonsense 500 years or more ago.

The descendents of Zwenger, Calvin and the Annabaptists ... not as much.

SkinnyHead: Why do Evolutionists insist on denying the Holocaust? Is is because Richard Dawkins thinks that eugenics may not be bad?

From your link:

I wonder whether, some 60 years after Hitler's death, we might at least venture to ask what the moral difference is between breeding for musical ability and forcing a child to take music lessons. Or why it is acceptable to train fast runners and high jumpers but not to breed them. I can think of some answers, and they are good ones, which would probably end up persuading me. But hasn't the time come when we should stop being frightened even to put the question?

Have you ever wondered why sperm donor's professions, accomplishments and biological qualities are given to the person trying to decide what sperm they want to pick? Ever hear of genetic counseling? These are a less intense versions of eugenics.

And so, in the matter of education, Christians do not dispute the right of the teacher to be agnostic or atheistic, but Christians do deny the right of agnostics and atheists to use the public school as a forum for the teaching of their doctrines.

The Bible has in many places been excluded from the schools on the ground that religion should not be taught by those paid by public taxation. If this doctrine is sound, what right have the enemies of religion to teach irreligion in the public schools? If the Bible cannot be taught, why would Christian taxpayers permit the teaching of guesses that make the Bible a lie? A teacher might just as well write over the door of his room, "Leave Christianity behind you, all ye who enter here," as to ask his students to accept an hypothesis directly and irreconcilably antagonistic to the Bible.

Our opponents are not fair. When we find fault with the teaching go Darwin's unsupported hypothesis, they talk about Copernicus and Galileo and ask whether we shall exclude science and return to the dark ages. Their evasion is a confession of weakness. We do not ask for the exclusion of any scientific truth, but we do protest against an atheist teacher being allowed to blow his guess in the face of the student. The Christians who want to teach religion in their schools furnish the money for denominational institutions. If atheists want to teach atheism, why do they not build their own schools and employ their own teachers? If a man really believes that he has brute blood in him, he can teach that to his children at home or he can send them to atheistic schools, where his children will not be in danger of losing their brute philosophy, but why should he be allowed to deal with other people's children as if the were little monkeys? ~ William Jennings Bryan

Bevets: blah blah blah...

Failing to teach the biblical creation myth is not the same as promoting "atheistic doctrine".

I'd hit it

I'm sure by saying "wants to be sure her children are taught all sides of the evolution issue" she means that she wants a class that includes the creation mythos of all the worlds religions.

yea

sure she does

I'd actually take a class like that as long as it's properly classified as mythology and/or philosophy.

dillenger69: I'm sure by saying "wants to be sure her children are taught all sides of the evolution issue" she means that she wants a class that includes the creation mythos of all the worlds religions.

This is what really gets me. She has before her the proposed standards that were drafted by literally dozens of scientists, and have been approved by multiple national science organizations and associations. And yet, she'd rather listen to the 1 out of 10,000 scientists (taking a stab in the dark at the number; it's probably a much lower portion of the scientific population) that says "I think we didn't put enough God in the theory, therefore it must be wrong."

It's not our fault that the writers of Genesis got their science so ridiculously wrong.

School board set to decide whether their science curriculum will enter the 20th century

More like "finally enter the 19th century", actually: On The Origin of Species was first published in 1859.

Sad, how far the general public lags behind modern science...

I don't see any reason the ignorant opinions of the public should have any weight whatsoever in deciding on a science curriculum. If I were on that board I would just tell people like this woman that I respect their opinion but that it is irrelevant to my decision. Because it should be, if she isn't a scientific expert on evolution.

Why do creationismists insist on threatening Richard Dawkins and burning him in effigy?

First they send false copyright threats... then they engage in terroristic threats against people they despise. So much for "teaching the controversy."
