How did they make that rocket?

This is a variation on a dohicky they sell as a science experiment. In most of them you use a 2 liter pop bottle. Fill it a little over half full of water and use special device, the part they sell in the stores to hoock it to a regular bicycle pump. It is really just a rubber cork with a hole to let the air go in and a metal stand with a release hook. The hook holds the bottle in place till you pressurize it with the pump. Then you pull a string or somrthing to release the bottle. You need both air and watter in the bottle to make it really take off. The air give you the pressure, and the water give you the reactive mass.

I like the internal combustion method

I'll stick with my potato gun

I agree with DrDave. One of life's little pleasures is firing a potato hundreds of feet throught the desert.

Its all fun and games until it lands on someone's head and you've got another sleepy hollow on your hands.

My kids have a mini version of this -- it's a sort of "super soaker" type water gun, and you mount these little rockets on top, pump them up with water and air, and squeeze the trigger. Our pet rat didn't like playing "astronaut", but what the hell. Rats are cheap.

I dunno, I found the concept of making a electrlysis device a lot more interesting. I tried to produce a large scale one when I was in 7th grade, but the container leaked, so I stopped. I wanted to inflate garbage bags with a hydrogen-oxygen mix. The goal was then to release them into the air with a lit fuse, for some very impressive hommade fireworks....

... its probably a good thing it leaked ;)

my potato gun can fit pumpkins, hehe, i need to use propane as fuel and i also need to prop against something cause the kickback is like shouldering a tank and letting it fire
