Major League made it.
2008-02-15 04:27:57 AM
Any love for Mighty Ducks?

2008-02-15 04:28:17 AM
I have seen and liked:

49 - The Big Blue (1988) Diving
41 - Major League (1989) Baseball
34. A League Of Their Own (1992) Baseball
17. The Natural (1984) Baseball
14. Happy Gilmore (1996) Golf
13. Bull Durham (1988) Baseball
10. Cool Runnings (1993) Bobsleigh
8. Million Dollar Baby (2004) Boxing

However, this list is useless without "The Sandlot".
2008-02-15 04:28:42 AM
Slapshot is on there so I'm happy.

2008-02-15 04:29:48 AM

I don't know whats worse... reading that article... or clicking page-by-page on Anyway... Bull Durham is the number one Sports movie, bar none.
2008-02-15 04:31:01 AM
Wait a second...I see a lack of Steve Prefontaine movies on the list.

Without Limits or Prefontaine would have been nice.
2008-02-15 04:34:03 AM
WTF is Jerry McGuire doing in that list? In that case, Ferris Bueller's Day Off should be in the list because they go to a Cubs game.

/feel da rhythm, feel da rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time
2008-02-15 04:38:10 AM
I think that list proves that sports movies are mostly inadequate.
2008-02-15 04:43:35 AM
An awful lot of them didn't really have all that much to do with sports.
2008-02-15 05:06:24 AM
I guess hunting aliens is not yet considered a sport.

/ maybe a good thing
2008-02-15 05:17:10 AM
( suppose grumpier old men fishing doesn't count either? )

/ Burgess Meredith & bacon live on no matter
2008-02-15 05:45:35 AM
North Dallas 44 should be on that list. The scene when Nick Nolte and Mac Davis are sitting in the weight room drinking a six pack and smoking while everybody else is working out is classic. Also a Beautiful Boxer is a great movie.
2008-02-15 06:41:32 AM
Big Blue should be top five. That is all.
2008-02-15 07:09:19 AM
Field of Dreams ftw

What? no love for quiddich?
2008-02-15 07:09:55 AM
Ah, the surefire way to start a heated discussion on Fark. Make a list. Any list, it doesn't matter. It could be a list of the 50 greatest lawn cutting performances and some Farker would come in to complain about how so and so should be in the top 5/10/whatever.
2008-02-15 07:13:15 AM
Caddyshack is #19, and Happy Gilmore #14... wtf?!

And where is 'Dead Solid Perfect'?! BOOGIE(tards)!
2008-02-15 07:13:41 AM
19. Caddyshack (1980) Golf
14. Happy Gilmore (1996) Golf

No. Farking. Way.

Doesn't get any better than this.

No "The Big Wheel" ?

-1 for not including Miracle
+1 for fitting all 50 on one page
2008-02-15 07:23:22 AM
"Miracle" is definitely better than some of the choices for that list.
2008-02-15 07:24:47 AM
They mention Brian's Song twice but it isn't part of the list?

Maybe it is too early to read.
2008-02-15 07:27:26 AM
Look, I'm a 100% heterosexual male who loves sports movies, and I understand why "For Love of the Game" isn't on the list because it's technically a romance movie with sports undertones, but dammit that movie makes me tear up every time at the end, no matter how many times I've seen it.

/Kevin Costner FTW
//what about "The Mighty Ducks"?
///wasn't "Lionheart" a sports movie too?
////"Karate Kid"?
//"The Cutting Edge"?
2008-02-15 07:31:19 AM
Hoop Dreams is the greatest modern sports film out there, IMO.
2008-02-15 07:31:56 AM
Jerry McGuire beats out Hoosiers and Slap Shot?

2008-02-15 07:41:04 AM
mike bassett, happy gilmore, cool runnings, rocky, football factory, mean machine, talladega nights (if you can call it sport) and that porridge episode - no particular order, most sport films suck
2008-02-15 07:43:43 AM
Slap Shot is in. That is all.
2008-02-15 07:47:25 AM
Touching the Void is an amazing documentary, I highly recommend it.

No room on the list for "The Pistol"? I hate basketball but loved that movie.

"Happy Gilmore" higher than "Caddyshack"?

"Slapshot" made it but no "Miracle" or "Mystery Alaska"?

Oh well, if you ever need hits for your website generate any list & post it here. We'll fight over anything all day long....
2008-02-15 07:54:04 AM
Coach goes I go. Coach stays I play.

Any sports movie list that doesn't have Hoosiers #1 is bunk.

Olympia made it. A fine choice. But A Sunday In Hell didn't. It's easily in the top 50, but only cyclists know about it.
2008-02-15 08:01:30 AM
Glad that Goal is in there. Bodyline should be though. Not enough cricketing films!
2008-02-15 08:01:34 AM
i went in looking for sandlot.

also whats with the Nazi love at #28?

sandlot>cool runnings
2008-02-15 08:06:09 AM
Gack they have Chariots of Fire number 2. Gack! GACK!

/truly hated that movie
2008-02-15 08:10:45 AM
Where's the greatest bowling movie of all time "The Big Lebowski"
2008-02-15 08:12:56 AM
Leave it to the Brits to fark up a sports list. No Sandlot? You're killing me Smalls!!!!
2008-02-15 08:14:20 AM
Are there really any great sports movies?

I mean there are some good ones, but most really suck
2008-02-15 08:17:19 AM
They have Rocky and Chariots of Fire, my two favourite movies, so I'm good with this list.
2008-02-15 08:19:24 AM
udeng01: 19. Caddyshack (1980) Golf
14. Happy Gilmore (1996) Golf

No. Farking. Way.

Yeah thats probably my biggest biatch as well, happy gilmore shouldnt even be on that list
2008-02-15 08:20:47 AM
41 - Major League (1989) Baseball

She hates the stadium, the fans and the climate in Milwaukee and wants to move the club to Florida, but she can only do that if attendance slumps.

That's funny because it's accurate.

ongbok: North Dallas 44 should be on that list.

That's North Dallas Forty, not 44. But I agree. And how could they not list Brian' Song ? I mean, that's one of only 3 movies guys are allowed to cry at.
2008-02-15 08:28:09 AM
Best movie about golf: Caddyshack
Worst movie about golf: Caddyshack II

Did the question mark at the end confuse you or do you really agree with the author's list?

/just curious
//as one response will result in our laughing over your lack of reading comprehension while sharing a beer or three
///the other will result in me slowly backing away while making soothing/calming noises, nodding my head & looking for an escape route.
2008-02-15 08:37:15 AM
Field of Dreams isn't even a sports movie. How could it ever reach so high? If it were a touchy-feely father-son number, it'd be at the top, but sports movie? BAH!!
2008-02-15 08:38:04 AM
#1 Shaolin soccer
2008-02-15 08:38:55 AM
Rollerball Ha!
Escape To Victory Ha Ha!
Any Given Sunday? You've got to be shiatting me.

Mystery, Alaska should be on there. Ditto The Sandlot, North Dallas Forty (North Dallas 44? Welcome back Rotsky).

/And, where's Vision Quest?
2008-02-15 08:39:26 AM
One Day in September was a brilliant documentary. I'm glad Chariots of Fire made it so high, but I have to say Vangelis' soundtrack - iconic though it is - just doesn't fit the piece.
