niknatas: I stopped drinking because my liver hurt.

Stupid liver. Too bad you need it to stay alive.

That's just a myth spread around by teetotalers. Don't listen to them.

Zik-Zak: Didn't know CO was a partially-dry state.

Still, all these comments about Drew and alcohol...kind of makes me feel sorry for his liver for some reason.

Car dealerships are also closed Sundays here by law. Great day to prowl the lots hassle free!

Its never bothered me that Indiana doesn't sell on Sundays. Its not that hard to pick up your booze on Friday or Saturday for the weekend. Bars and restaurants still serve on Sunday.

Worst comes to worst, I can make the 15 minute drive over to the state line and buy from Illinois.

weigelt: How did Colorado get so backwards? Hell, I grew up in Alabama and Georgia where you can buy beer and wine in the grocery stores. C'mon Colorado.

This is why we'll never get a Trader Joe's.

Bastids.

Even in Texas, which is one of the most Conservative state in the Bible Belt will allow stores to sell beer/wine after 12p on Sunday.

blue laws need to die. period.

we all know the real reason for their enforcement (new window), same as ridiculous drunk driving laws that inordinately punish one time offenders for blowing a .09% and yet somehow allow fark-headline-worthy scumbags to rack up 50 dui convictions without going to jail for life.

/why don't state laws punish someone blowing a .20% more than a .09%?
//that's the "fine $$$ + neo-prohibitionism = profit (via campaign contributions from madd and jebus freaks" equation.
///no dui on my record and i won't drive after even a beer, thankyouverymuch. of course, i live in a city, so i can walk to and from dinner if i want to have a glass of wine if i so choose.

Treygreen13: A liquor store in Beaver Creek, CO.
I went back just to take a picture of it.

Everything in the greater Avon/Vail/Beaver Creek area is "Beaver" something. you should have gone in...they have tons of cool "Beaver Liquor" schwag.

I'm going to Colorado next month for Spring Break. I'm going to have to sneak some liquor over. The stuff they sell in grocery stores is not going to do (3.2%? Might as well buy a bottle of Listerine. Is that still legal to buy in a grocery store there?)

/one of the few things I like about Nebraska is not having blue state laws
//on Sundays there really isn't anything better to do than drink

As those of us Minnesota say, if you get the thirst on a Sunday, that is what Wisconsin is for. (Or the Dakotas, if you live on the wrong side)

Load up the car, we're off to Prescott (Hudson, Superior, it's all good).

andywinn: wonder when we will be able to buy a car in Colorado on a Sunday.

Actually the car buying on a Sunday is fairly common, the stupid Colorado liquor law/ 3.2% thing is not.
Even the liberal state I live in (IL) is not that stupid (god I hate to say that.)

Live in AZ...Beer sold 24/7 just about anywhere.

Uzzah:
Nah. The defeat of the grocery sales bill was the quid pro quo for the Liquor Lobby not opposing the Sunday sales bill. There will still be some complaints from small liquor store owners, but the Sunday sales bill will pass without major opposition.

I would've preferred that both bills pass (we needs us a Trader Joe's or two, and being able to sell wine will get them here in a jiffy), but as we saw a couple of years ago, if the Liquor Lobby was going to oppose a Sunday sales bill, it wasn't going to pass.

That was my read on it, too. Yay, Trader Joe's! Plus, beer on Sundays when I forget Saturday night!

Drew! You're just an hour from Louisville!

Not only do the bars close at 4:00 a.m., the Catholics have good lobbyists for liquor!

andywinn: wonder when we will be able to buy a car in Colorado on a Sunday.

Probably never. It gives dealers a day off when they don't have to pay people, and it allows buyers to walk the lots without sales pressure. No one wants it.

I'm cool with only liquor stores selling the good stuff here. But I don't understand why I can't get it on Sunday. I'm not religious, so what would be special about Sunday? It really irks me if I stop at the Dam Brewery in Dillon on a Sunday coming home from Jeeping or Skiing depending on the time of year, and I can't bring a growler home. I can sit there and drink a growler worth, but can't bring it home for later. WTF?

/Don't even get me started on why can't I smoke a bowl (legally) in my living room...

I remember living in Montrose, CO; Saturday night is when you stocked up for 3.2 Sunday. I used to joke how a good alcoholic is always prepared. Good times.

I used to surmise that the reason for this law was that we lived next to the Mormon State. The wind blows west because Utah sucks. If you really wanted to drink on Sunday, you just waited 'til noon and went to the local watering hole, which served full-strength beverages. I've wasted many a day anchored to a bar on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

/sober for 16 months
//surf's up

The air is thinner in Sundays.

I've been following this issue closely.

Colorado law is farked. Liquor store owners are limited to one store. 3.2 beer is disgusting and I'd rather not drink at all than drink that crap.

Here's how to reform:

1: Allow grocery stores to sell booze.
2: Allow Sunday sales
3: Allow liquor store owners to open more than one store
4: Abolish the mandatory 3-tier system of distribution
5: Abolish DUAI (which means you can be arrested for a 0.05 BAC)
6: Raise the BAC limit for DUI to a reasonable limit - like 0.15 - or at least 0.1
7: Boca Loca Cachaca

Drew can get booze on sunday where he lives. They just enacted in december.
