Nick Nostril: If they don't learn the easy way as younguns, they'll have to learn the hard way as adults.

I've said that for a long time. Children WILL learn discipline. The lessons can come easily and with love from the parents, or the lessons can come hard and with vengeance from a world which has no concern for their feelings or where they end up in life. Get it right before they leave the house or God help them, because nobody else will.

I don't care how precious your child is if he is pointing a gun (if it looks real, it will be treated as real) at me. He will be considered a clear and present danger to my life and the lives of my loved ones, and his "youthful prank" will not be laughed off. I won't be asking "is that real, 'cuz it looks real?" That kid is very likely to get a view of a truly real gun, loaded with VERY real and VERY lethal ammunition, and unless he has an ultra-fast reflex of dropping the toy and raising his hands, my porch will be one helluva place to die. I hate to say it. I hate to think it. I don't want it to happen. But I don't get to choose who rings my doorbell, whether it be the UPS man, a neighbor needing an egg, some kid with a prank, or some thug intent on robbery, rape and murder. If you look like you're in the last category, you'll be treated as such.

Nowadays, there is probably a rule in the HOA Covenants & Restrictions prohibiting it.

for good or for awesome: I have a peep hole in my door. If I don't know you, I don't open the door. Welcome to the 21st century.

Exactly what I was thinking - I NEVER open the front door if I don't know who it is or aren't expecting someone.

Freddie the Talking Flute: jso2897: Freddie the Talking Flute: I wonder why the kids in Roseville want to die?

Never been to Roseville, have you?

Nope. Don't even know where it is from here.

I guess if it's in the high desert I could get an idea of why they want to die, but that's some pretty blatant 'kill me' behavior, even for a kid.

Roseville is a dull-as-dogshiat suburb northeast of Sacramento in the foothills of the Sierras. It's a big railyard town which was nearly destroyed in the 1960s during the Vietnam war when a trainload of 500 lb bombs blew up.

One of my buddies got into Airsoft.
He showed me his rig the other day. GodDAMN do they make those things real.

Some even have "transparent magazines" with dummy shells visible through the casing (the real BB-spring is hidden between the shells, of course) and replica manufacturer's marks (which probably piss off the real gun manufacturers to no end, although the replica-maker's mark is also two inches down the receiver)

Some even have suppressors with no orange tips. Some look like all out military grade rifles.

...he's invited me to his next game. I already bought the helmet, gonna hit the discount stores for a cammo outfit. I was going to buy an Airsoft replica Mossberg right there, but he told me that the shotgun would get me creamed in a battle against the souped-up rapid-fire guns favored by the rest of his crew, so he's going to loan me a spare one of his. This is gonna be FUN...

Kids in Roseville, CA are doorbell ditching then shooting people with real-looking BB guns when come to the door

You know, if they're actually shooting people with said BB guns, I'd say they are pretty real.

Y'know, because it would be pretty hard to shoot someone with imaginary BBs.

If there's all this hoopla about kids removing the orange tips from toy guns or painting them black, why aren't people scared of other people painting REAL gun-tips orange, etc?

2008-02-12 04:43:00 PM
Stupid ass kids. Threatening the homeowner with a genuine-looking airsoft gun really takes all the "innocent" out of "innocent prank". As everyone's already mentioned, this situation will correct itself the first time one of them gets a lead enema. Unfortunately, some poor guy that was just trying to protect himself will be socially crucified, probably tried and convicted of murder, imprisoned, and then people will lobby for stricter gun laws. All because some parent never taught their dumplings that aiming a gun (real or fake) is criminal behavior and will eventually result in death.

/I was a dumb little bastard when I was 13, but there's no way in hell I'd let my friends talk me into pointing a gun, fake or otherwise, at an adult
//Maybe that's because my parents actually disciplined me and taught me right from wrong, I don't know...

2008-02-12 04:43:20 PM
Wow...not to seem paranoid or anything, but here in CCW country? I happen to, when the bell rings or someone knocks, check the porch from a side window - and I have a pistol in the table right there. If I see someone holding a gun? Well, let's just say I'm not worried about breaking a window.

akula: Da Chico Kid: And you get a 00 FAIL cause the guy was talking about these kids getting shot by an armed homeowner (bless there hearts) with a shotgun.

That would be a triple helping of FAIL for you.

00 Buck is a certain kind of shotgun shot. BB is another kind (yes, there are shells labeled "BB" with that kind of shot in it). They are vastly different sizes and used for much different things. 00 shot is NOT BB shot.

Like the man said, "learn you some ammo."

Why is anything other than 00 or 6+ so hard to find? I had some sweet Federal Home Defense loads that I haven't seen in almost 10 years. They were low-brass #2 shot, perfect for a close-distance house shotgun. Won't shoot through walls, easy recoil recovery and the girlie could use it without flinching.

I used to keep the 12ga loaded with two of those and three regular 00. Can't farking find the low-brass Home Defense loads anymore.

Stop selling/giving these to minors. I love my airsoft guns, especially my all metal gas powered USP compact that can shoot a 6mm plastic BB clean through a soda can. These arent toys...

The orange tip law has probably saved a great deal of lives, but when kids just take them off, paint over them, or buy imported airsoft guns, kind of takes the punch out of the law.

I put fake orange tips on my glocks, just in case ;)

It depends a lot on what sells. Generally, I only see stuff smaller than 0 or 00ish and larger than 7 when turkey season is coming up. Some gun shops may carry other kinds of shot. You can always load your own- it gives you total control over what you run.

I'd also try looking at online ammo dealers if it is legal in your state to buy ammo online. Ammoman.com and Cheaperthandirt.com are not bad places to look. Ammoman has some 12 gauge #4 buck low recoil rounds for $99/100 rounds, and that might be the thing for you.

Gas? Pistol? Soda can?

Hehehee...this is what my buddy likes to do for fun. Meet an electrically-powered airsoft rifle vs. one of your green-gas canisters at point blank range.
Next time I'll tell him to try that at thirty yards, see how well it works...

my brother used to hide behind the trees in my front yard and then shoot me with his paint ball gun when I would walk out the front door. Similar, yet less retarded.

You fail at reading comprehension.

The reference is to the owner answering the door with a shotgun, not the kids' gun.

Its way more fun to fill a paper bag with dog poop, put it on their stoop, then light it, ring, and run. The bonus is watching them try to stomp it out.

That said those kids are really asking for it.

And if it looks like they're smarter than that and they go for a fire extinguisher...well, watching somebody fire off an average "dry-chemical" fire extinguisher all over their front porch is an entirely different brand of abusement.

Or you can always take a twofor-set a flaming bag of dog poop on the step, then blast it with an Airsoft gun when they answer the door...

My reading comprehension is fine (always scored high in it). The original reference to 00 being more powerful than BB, especially with following comments, could be taken to be either referring solely to shotgun loads or the respective difference in capability between a 00 buck shotgun load and a plastic pellet from an airsoft gun.

As I said up above, both 00 buck and BB are legitimate shotgun loads, hence the possible confusion. I even linked examples from Winchester (Olin) ammunition. Even if a homeowner answered the door with a shotgun loaded with BB loads, the kids would have a very bad night, but 00 buck would be more instantly lethal due to better penetration.

People never heard of a door peephole?

If I look through it and see someone I don't know and I'm not expecting visitors or a delivery, you better damn well know that I've got one hand on my gun as I open the door ever so slightly!

Let them try that airsoft/bb gun shiat at my door!

1. Airsoft hurts like hell. My girlfriend and I do two-person stalks in the forest, so we needed to determine what a safe minimum engagement range was for my CO2 pistol. I had her shoot at my extended arm starting at a distance of 30 ft - even that left a huge blood blister that stung like hell. If some kid shot me in the face at PB range with one of those things I'd probably beat him to death, let alone if it got near my eyeball.

2. Orange tip, my ass. If I'm trying to stay in cover in the woods, the last think I want is a bright orange beacon drawing attention to my position. On the flipside, I have a Classic Army SLR105A1 that I haven't painted over the orange tip yet. I do have the mag, stock, and the upper guard wrapped in camoflage tape. That baby stays in my rifle bag until we are well out in the woods. If a policeman were to see me carrying a heavily camo'd-out AK-47, he's not going to care for a second about my precious orange tip, he's gonna have me on the ground with a knee in my neck, and I wouldn't blame him for a second. The orange tip only protects politicians who need to be seen "doing something."

/ Texas airsoft FTW

ddiction: You actually answer the door with a gun in your hand? I'd hate to be your UPS guy.

I've answered my door with a gun at my hip. No reason to have it in the hand unless I'm about ready to fire it, and I've no reason to believe that I'll need to do that while answering the door.

But if I answer the door and some punk shoves a gun in my face, my first instinct will be to neutralize the threat, not to carefully examine the pointed object to determine whether or not it's real.

/only had Mormons so far.
//no, I'm not about to even hint that deadly force would have been justified there
