FTA: "And some in both states say: I’ve been distracted by war, recession and a presidential campaign, so forgive me. But are we fighting over a rock?"

2008-02-11 12:09:18 AM
So... All the other problems are straightened out then?

2008-02-11 12:09:24 AM
meanwhile, Kentucky is sneaking in with paper for the win.

Anyone in or near Portsmouth have any spare dynamite so we can shut these people the fark up?

Subby is a dumbass.

It's spelled "Iraq."

THIS WAS ALREADY POSTED A WEEK AND A HALF AGO!

/seriously, who greenlit this?

Assuming it is the same rock, you would be correct.

As far as land disputes go your doing it wrong.

2008-02-11 08:16:07 AM
Really? I thought it was the US in general vs. the insurgency fighting over that. But since there's only two states going at it, the whole "can't get it done" problem makes more sense now.

2008-02-11 08:17:39 AM
Kentucky, we'll give you Toledo in exchange for the rock, but you have to move it.

/since we're still coming out ahead, we'll throw in Galipolis

2008-02-11 08:17:51 AM
I'll say what I said in the last thread...

Kygz
We should push the farking rock back in the river and tell them to go get it.

/They won't.
//They didn't care about the rock until someone else did.

yeah, i'm pretty sure you could take portsmouth with a couple hundred well armed men. it isn't a very big place... but some of the surrounding terrain is fairly rugged and heavily wooded, so their might be some problems with guerrilla warfare/resistance.

Err...yeah.

"Iraq"="A rock"

But yeah, to say nothing of the fact that KY residents seem, on the whole, significantly better-armed than Ohioans.

true, dat.

i've got some kin around there with teeth, and some with guns. and you're right about the overlap being minimal.

2nded.

and since we can change the ohio state constitution as long as we get enough signatures to get it on the ballot and approval by the majority of the voters, i say we get to work on making it official.

/we hereby give toledo and gallia county (why not the whole thing?) to kentucky in exchange for a rock with charlie brown's face on it. no tradebacks.

"Some Ohioans say the rock is an important piece of Portsmouth history and should be put on display. Some Kentuckians say the rock is an important piece of Kentucky, period, and should be returned."

You guys think we can throw in Dearborn, Switzerland, and Ohio counties on the Indiana side of the border. I know they're not close to Portsmouth, but we don't want them.

yes. we will fire up our trucks on big tires, they will fire up their trucks with big tires. we will meet on the new u.s. grant bridge and play chicken. whomever goes into the river first loses and has to deliver three jugs of moonshine (40 rod lightning variety or better) to the winning state. providing them darned revenuers aren't anywhere nearby. once everyone is good and drunk, we will steal some dynamite from one of the local mines and blow the rock back into the river with to rest with all of the abandoned cars, refrigerators and shopping carts from the walmart on route 52.

I was more thinking a good old fashioned cole slaw wresting, but this too would do nicely.

I think the ever-so-serious NYT perhaps misses that the whole thing is slightly tongue-in-cheek? Dunno if it is, but that's the impression I got from some of the quotes.

i think you've hit the nail on the head. i know a lot of folks down there (including two of the people mentioned in the article) and hadn't heard about this "controversy" until now. of course, now i'll have to ask about it :)

Well, we could trade for Cincy - it's just a big bowl, so we could use it for a landfill. In case of (additional) polution, most of us are already trained not to eat the fish caught in the Ohio, so it's cool.

A simple solution is at hand.

Have some one engrave the ten commandments on the bolder.

Then it will be banned in both states.

Ohio is obviously still jealous that Kentucky owns the Ohio River.

Wait.. what am I saying. The only state jealous of Kentucky might be West Virginia. Or Nebraska. What horrible states those are.
