No. It is beer ~ a legally-defined malt-based product , then charcoal-stripped of flavor & color, followed w/ added flavorings.

No fan of them, but this is strictly Nanny State manipulation for $$$ booty.

... and since NYS only sells liquor in liquor/wine stores, separate from beer (beverage stores, convenience/super marts), how will this affect sales.

F*ck sin taxes. Stop spending money on shiat you don't need.

Exactly.

Can anyone still believe we still have to deal with the shiat fallout from prohibition?

Course when there is government and money involved all bets are off usually.

2008-02-07 02:09:23 PM
I'm not surprised.

This is the same state that wanted to ban wine shipments to people's houses in order to "protect minors from underage drinking". However, New York wineries were excempt from this law.

Alcopops are for the kiddies.

NY is such a tax hell shiathole, fark this shiatty state and all their corrupt piece of shiat politicians. Everyone in NY should make every possible effort to buy products from out of state and figure every way possible legal or not to keep tax revenue from these shiatbags. This type of civil disobedience is the only way things would change.

A few years ago, I had a BBQ and a friend brought two 4 packs of Bartles and James- Pina Colada and Orange/Mango, or some such nonsense.

We all had a good laugh, and threw in the cooler with the Bud Light and real beer, and I jokingly told my friend he had to actually drink that shiat, because it wasn't going in my fridge with the other leftovers. So, he proceeds to drink them. He had about four before he had a blinding headace. That's simply too much fake sugar to go with the massive amounts of dead animal he consumed.

/loves summer so much.

YRLY. But I'm not sure if it was actually a law, or just one that almost got passed.

Things aren't any better up here in WA, we have state-run liquor stores.....the prices suck, and most of them aren't open on Sunday. Plus, state law mandates that we have a 3 tier distribution system.

/Used to work in the WA wine industry.

Sparks (a flavored malt beverage) is essentially RedBull with alcohol. My daily breakfast. I stick with the 6% version, though. The 7.5% tastes like medicine, and the low-cal is truly awful.

AT LAST! It's about time someone thought to increase the tax on alcohol instead of tobacco. I think that they should tack on a HUGE extra fee on these drinks. The bigger the tax, the better.

I remember when bartles and james came in those big bottles like soda. I wonder why they stopped doing that.

See, I wouldn't mind if PA did that. The less things I actually HAVE to go to the state store (or local bar take-out) for, the better. Even if I don't drink them.

I am not particularly anti-tax, but the quickest solution to New York's problems is the carpet-bombing of Albany (during the next state of the state address so everyone is actually there) and the erection of a new government with a 15 year moratorium on further borrowing.

Most people's tastes change as they mature, usually becoming less likely to go for sugary crap.
I get less of a hangover from what I drink these days, perhaps also because I learned moderation.
